Sony FE 24-70mm f/2.8
The 70-200F4 is so much lighter, and so much less painful around neck or to hand-carry that it became the good choice. I bought this about a month ago and I am glad the weight at F4 minimum I found this lens to be very sharp and with excellent shallow depth of field. Its lightweight means that I can carry and use a telephoto most of the day without getting tired compared to a very much heavier and more expensive F2.8 70-200 lens. This lens is good for my panorama shooting and landscape. I recommend who like to carry around lightweight.

Pricey, but worth it
I shoot mostly video (documentary and live concert footage), and this lens is the sweet spot in terms of focal length. Since it's 2.8, extremely sharp and beautiful, and zooms from very wide to portrait length, I've found that it replaces the need for multiple fast primes (and is always available without changing lenses.) Fantastic build quality. It's not light, (heavy enough that it seems as thought it should have a tripod connector on it), but it is my go-to for 80% of my work. The best looking light I've ever had from a zoom.

Big Lens Big Quality
I was turned off by the size of this lens... at first i felt like i may as well carry my D810 with 24-105. So i looked at it. I tried it. I walked away. Having shot strictly with the sony 35mm i began to feel like i missed being a bit more wide and also having something to get a bit closer. So i came back to this lens and I fell in love. Once you get over the size shock you will realize that you have one of the highest quality lens made. the clarity and sharpness are amazing. finally something for the unforgiving a7rii sensor.

You need to know what you need it for
Well. I used Canon, Leica and Sony. This lens is good for me because I started going with Sony from now on. Because its faster. Lighter and more convenient to take picture. Therefore, I bought this lens. Canon 2.8 24-70 is slightly sharper than this guy but you really dont see that much of it. Over all, the lens is much faster than any other in the market. More cool lol. Solid. If you ask yourself which one should I go with canon or Sony? I would say go with the one what you need. But if you want to be cool go with Sony ???

Glad to see that Sony is building a solid lens base with this one & the 70-200 also at f/2.8 GM. I recommend both - they are sharp and fast focusing (especially between f/2.8 and f/8 since at f/9 and past that you may get focus hunting in low light). Focus ring and zoom ring feel solid (the zoom feels a bit tight but that's ok). Also, i really like the custom button on these, that you can set for things like AF-On or Eye-AF. Overall, if you are considering any of the newer Alphas these two GM lens at f/2.8 are IMO a must.

Great but not perfect
I'm using this lens for run and gun corporate event video. It sure does beat the heck out of swapping primes all day long, and it looks fantastic. Very close to the Canon equivalent I've used for years. There are a few negatives to keep in mind: -heavy at 5lbs -the barrel of the lens extends out when zooming (like the canon) and i hate that. -significantly more expensive than the canon equivalent Other than those things this lens is awesome. It is my new go-to, but I kind of knew that it would be when I picked it up.

Perfect zoom lens
This is an awesome lens which has become my everyday piece of glass. It is crisp and sharp corner to corner, perfect color rendition, no perceptible chromatic aberration. I have used it for landscape, street, architecture photography and even some portraits. Works awesomely in low light conditions, even autofocus works like a charm in those situations as well. This lens opened the door for me to get G Master lenses and I bought an 85mm 1.4 GM which performs beautifully too. Downs? Costly, but... worth every penny.

Heavy, expensive but very happy
b&h fast shipping is second to none. i placed my order yesterday around 11am and received it approximately 10am today but i wasn't home at the time to test it out until now. the result is astonishing! it's quite heavy in both aspects the weight and on my wallet ( giggle ). however it delivered sharp images in a few attempts without reading the manual. it did very well in low light room with flash used. the photo below was shot with following setting f4.0/70mm/flash used in ttl mode/iso 320/ exposure time 1/60s.

Great lens for the A7rII
I'm mostly using this lens on my A7rII, and the resolution is great. Light years better than the Canon 24-70 that I was using with metabones adapter. I tried that route first since I already had the Canon glass, but this native lens is so much better on the Sony bodies. Very little chromatic aberration and vignetting, which to me is more important that sharpness. Just look up the tests on dxomark to do a side by side. I'm only sorry I waited so long to get it. P.S. Super fast focusing also on the A9.

Seriously in need of an update!
Naturally this heavy, expensive lens produces great images: sharp, contrasty and worthy of the highest-resolution cameras, including my a7r iv. Unfortunately the AF is hobbled because of a missing feature! Unlike most of Sony's full-frame lenses, this one DOES NOT OPEN to maximum aperture for focusing, even in AF-S (none do in AF-C). While you can achieve the speed of wide-aperture focusing in dark situations by turning OFF Live View, then you're sacrificing the main advantage of mirrorless systems!

Best zoom lens from Sony to date.
I originally pre-ordered the 85mm GM here at B&H until I decided to cancel my pre-order because of the issues on the cracking sound of 85mm during focusing. I owned 35mm 1.4, 55mm 1.8, 90 macro 2.8 which has reputation of sharp primes. This lens is tact sharp in all focal length wide open. I'd been using this lens for 2 weeks now and this one will stay in my a7rii 90% of the time. This lens is a perfect combo of a7rii. Yet it's heavy but you know that quality glass, is inside this lens.

This lens is... Wow!
Out of the box you can feel that this lens is 'different'. The weight reminds you of the quality components inside. I knew it'd be good, but honestly, I was blown away by the image quality. Yeah, it's big and heavy, which is even more dramatic on the compact A7 series, but I wouldn't sacrifice the IQ of this lens for something smaller and lighter. If you're looking for something compact, this isn't it. If you're looking for a professional lens with extremely high IQ, look no further.

Love this lens
I bought this lens to use while traveling so I don't have to switch my prime lenses all the time from wide angle, 50mm, and portrait. It ships with a nice lens bag and a user manual that is larger than the one I got with the actual body of the camera :p. This lens takes sharper than life photos on the A7ii. I am amazed with the image quality, color, and bokeh. The zoom seems to be a bit sticky to zoom in and out but this doesn't bother me that much. Definitely worth the money.

A fantastic lens is well-worth the price
This is one of the best lenses I've used on any camera. The bokeh is just the way I like it, and very controllable, but more importantly, I love the depth of color and image sharpness. I've owned Canon, Nikon, Pentax and other Sony cameras. When I decided to switch to the A7R2, this lens was one of two I knew I needed (the other is still back-ordered). And I am completely happy. This 24-70 does everything I need it to, splendidly. (I'm attaching a quick test shot I took.)

I would rather have this lens than food
Ok listen, we all realize the price tag on this lens is pretty high. Like, high enough that I had to eschew 6 months of avocado toast to save the cash. But with my first shutter click I knew I had made the right choice. The outstanding crispness of details, gorgeous contrast and spectacular dropoff into bokeh is unparalleled. Every picture comes out perfect, from subject isolation when shooting wide open, to the corner-to-corner sharpness at any and all aperature.

Very Versitle Lens
Ive always loved the 24-70. You can use it for lifestyle, landscape, and pretty much anything. Its just a nice range that allows you to shoot multiple items. I bought it for that long term along with being able to shoot in cropped mode with my Sony a7r ii for some product photography. I believe it gives me 38-112mm or so, so it gives me the extra zoom I need creating a 2-in-1 lens. Extra bang for my buck. Its a sharp lens, and again, extremely versatile.

When only the BEST will do
I can only compare this to the canon L series zooms I have had over the years and the Sony is head and shoulders above any 24-70 Canon lens as far as build quality and feel goes. Image quality I think the canon has a slight edge at 70mm (As I have closely compared them both), but the rest of the zoom range I was splitting hairs. I absolutely love the ergonomics and craftsmanship and tight tolerances of this lens..amazing amazing amazing!!! Happy Camper

Not sharpest lens
Somebody else said so and I didnt believe him until I got mine. This is not as sharp as the regular Sony 1.8 85mm lens at one quarter the price! I was very disappointed by this. Overall it is a great lens but not worth the money. It is only a little sharper than the 20-240 that I have too, which is another big and heavy lens. I am using the a7rii. I found that pictures are a little sharper when I use manual focus. I have it set at center focus auto now.

Perfect pair for your Sony camera
I tried a few options, including Metabones + Canon lenses, Sony FE 24-70 F4, and found this lens far superior to any other setup. For me FE 24-70 F2.8 has two things I care about most - quality of the image and build. It's the only lens of its kind. Works great with my new A7SII for photo and video. If you are looking for a good professional lens, look no further. The only downside is its size and weight, but I would say that it is completely worth it.

Amazing!!!
After selling my 5d mark 3 and fully switching over to Sony I truly missed my workhorse Canon 24-70mm USM II 2.8. This new Sony 24-70mm 2.8 is amazingly sharp and the color rendition is right up there with the Canon in both stills and video. A huge leap from the Sony Zeiss 24-70mm f4, the only downside of the Sony G Master 24-70mm f 2.8 of the lens was the price tag, but then again it's well worth it as it will be the most used lens in my kit.

Fantastic.
This zoom is that it is so darn good that you will often be compelled to use it instead of your f/2 primes. It feels a bit heavy when you first mount it (especially if you just unmounted a tiny prime) but that perception disappears very quickly with use. This and the 16-35GM (along with a fast prime) is my trilogy for travel. I will generally shot 90% on any given trip with just this lens. IMO this lens is the foundation for FE mount.

Great Lens for Sony A7Sii
I finally recieved my lens from B&H. I waited for their supply to come rather than buy an imported one. There was no price difference and I got B&H's excellent service. This lens compliments all the features of the Sony A7Sii and I am sure it would be great on the A7RII. It has a nice solid -built like brick-feel. Pics and video are sharp. I am on a learning curve with this and used it all day on a shoot and I was not dissapointed.

My favorite lens.
I use this lens on my A7rII. I couldn't be happier. This lens is sharp and the colors are great. I see a marked reduction in noise and the noise grain is much finer than with the 24-70 f/4.0. It is heaver, but then isn't that to be expected in a lens with a lot more glass. This has quickly become my favorite lens, and I keep it mounted on my camera most of the time. If you purchase this lens, I don't think you will be disappointed.

Not Up To the GM Badge it Wears
I'd put up with its' exorbitant weight if it offered what most GM lenses do but it simply doesn't. It's "pretty" sharp in the center but the corners are bad. I own the GM 16-35 2.8 and the GM 100-400 4.5-5.6 and this isn't even close to those two. Strange too as this is probably the most asked for focal length. Hopefully they'll come out with a V2 or something someday. In the meantime, I'll stick with primes and the 24-105 F4.
