Superb with the A9
If youre not in the market for a $10,000 prime lens, this one is for you! Internal zoom (doesnt get longer), small movement to go from 200-600, great IS, sharp and fast AF!

Pretty decent, great for the price
I had reasonable expectations for this lens, being what it is for $2k. I was not expecting the level of sharpness at pixel peeping level of a $10k+ lens, and if you are, I'd adjust your thinking accordingly. It is pretty sharp for what it is at this zoom range and price point. Focus is fast on my a7r3, especially using the focus limiter on the lens. Images still retain their sharpness with the 1.4x extender; I don't have the 2x to try since betwe... Show More

Great lens for the price
Used this lens for two weeks now and the images are very sharp. The bokeh, however, is not the greatest but worth it for the price.

Best in class, buy if the lens maps to your needs
This is the lens for you If you are into safari. It is also a good wildlife, nature, sports and action lens, including BIF, air shows, etc., although if you need the ultimate autofocus performance, you would have to consider one of the two Sony long primes (400/2.8 or 600/4). Having tried most if not all of the lenses in this category from other makers, the Sony 200-600 is easily the best in class. It is impressively sharp across most of the f... Show More

Excellent super zoom...
I have been using this lens on my a7mk3 and a9 for two weeks with my agility dogs. Love it so far. I have yet to explore all the controls switches and buttons on it. This is my preliminary feedback. It is light for handheld shoot, focus tracking is awesome. Internal zoom and short zoom rotation from 200mm - 600mm are a big plus. Pictures are sharp with good lighting at wide open aperture. I thought my Sigma 150mm to 600mm was awesome, but this ... Show More

Rock Solid Sharp Focus
Got this to do distance shots (bird shots) and was quite pleased with results - quick focus (both auto and manual) and dead on crispness. Also did some fairly good looking closeups of butterflies at the close range limits of focus. Lens took a drop (woops) but kept on clicking! Yes, a bit heavy, but nothing a monopod can't help with.

AWESOME LENS!!
This will be my go to Wildlife lens. I have the 100-400 and a Canon 500mm but this lens is fast and very sharp. Do I still need those other 2 is the question!

Lives up to its hype!
I bought this when I began to see reviewers raving about it and sample image after sample image on YouTube. It was supposed to be sharper at 600mm than the lovely 100-400 with a 1.4x TC. And, that seems to be true. I have been shooting at extreme ranges at 600mm and 840mm with noticeably better IQ than my former 150-600mm lenses from Tamron and Sigma. I love that it zooms and focuses internally and has a short zoom ring throw. Its longer and heavier than the 100-400mm, but at age 77 I can handle it well enough and for long periods, I use a monopod. I am very satisfied with my purchase.

A well thought out design for a big lens
This lens completes my kit of Sony lenses. (Yes, my spouse has heard that before and doesn't believe it either.) After only a couple of weeks I am convinced it was designed by photographers. Internal focusing simplifies useand balance on a tripod as well as improving weather sealing. Thanks to the layout it is a pleasure to use this lens. Images are crisp at 600mm in contrast to my past long lenses. Focus speed with my A7R3 is not as fast as hope... Show More

Sony hit a home run with this lens.
I have been using this lens for my wildlife photography since I received it from B&H on Aug. 9th. I am using it on my A9 and the AF is fast an accurate. The only time I miss focus is due to my error. I have not had a problem with AF in low light so far but I do not use this lens at night. I highly recommend this lens for wildlife photography from still subjects, BIF's and animals on the move.

Disappointing
I so much wanted this lens to be great, since it fills a huge hole in the Sony lineup, and would have been tremendously useful to me. After using it for one week, I'm returning it, reluctantly. I cannot get a photo with acceptable sharpness when zoomed it, and the bokeh is unpleasing. Being careful to avoid motion blur, using a tripod, and with lower ISO's, I'm still getting unsatisfactory results. I'm really disappointed, as this comes nowhere c... Show More

Superb Lens
Fed Ex delivered my lens two days ago and I took it out with my Sony A7D3 Friday afternoon and yesterday so I haven't had a lot of time with it yet. To me build quality is excellent and so far I am very favorably impressed with the lens with no dislikes. I had no problem using autofocus - it was right on and crisp. All images were sharp when checked at 100% in Adobe Bridge. I especially noticed the excellent bokeh on those images shot using this ... Show More

not near the sharpness I was expecting
purchased this lens two days ago and returned it today. I had high expectations for the lens and they were pretty much dashed. The lens does give an amazing range and reach, especially with the 2 x extender, but the sharpness is just not there. The main telephoto lens I had been using was the Sony 100-400 and it way surpasses this lens. I have switched back to this lens. Buy this lens knowing that the reach is impressive, but the sharpness and detail may not be what you'd expect for a $2000.00 lens.

Brilliant!
At long last, a lens that is designed for the wildlife photographer and distant subjects! I just finished putting my new lens through it's paces and can say that it works better than any comparable size telephoto on the market. I shifted to Sony a few years ago from Nikon and have anxiously awaited an affordable lens option that would complete my needs. The 100-400 was good, but this is best. The all internal telephoto operation makes balance on ... Show More

Small Defect with mine
I received mine on Tuesday. Unfortunately the is a small piece of paper about the size of a pin head between two of the lens elements near the rear of the lens. BH is going to overnight me a new 200-600 in time for a couple of trips I am going on so I can take the lens. Very good customer service BH. Thank you.

Perfect wildlife lens
This lens is amazing, very fast focus on the modern Sony mirorless cameras, shot on the a6400, the in lens stabilization allows hand held shots even at full zoom at 1/125 of a second. The quick zoom mechanism is great for acquiring the subject at 200 and zooming in to 600 with 1/4 of a rotation of the zoom ring, unlike the 100-400, which is much more cumbersome especially with its extending front lens group almost doubling the lens length. Good lens for price
Lens works well, sharp, quick auto-focus, solid build. Is a little front heavy on the A7 series, but light for a 600mm. Nice that it's internal focusing. A little bothered that Sony changed the foot design (RRS foot for 100-400 doesn't fit). Excellent glass for the price.

Great for the price
Good lens, sharp, quick focusing. Bothered me that Sony changed the foot size. My RRS foot for the 100-400 GM lens won't work on this lens. hand held is ok, but still front heavy on the A7 series. Love the internal focusing. Excellent lens for the price!

Phenomenal price/performance
I'm replacing an adapted 500mm f4 with this. I've tested the lens shooting Surf as well as Motocross and it performed superbly. This will now be my go-to lens for surf (for moto I normally used the 70-200). The tracking in still and video was excellent and I'll only be keeping the adapted 500mm for low-light circumstances where I absolutely need that extra light. I did a few shots in terrible backlit conditions to see how it behaved and again, qu... Show More
