Really amazing camera, with limitations

Aug 6, 2018

The Sony RX100 series of cameras have all been amazing. However, I feel the 24-200mm lens is going backwards for most people. I wanted to love this camera coming from the RX100V, however indoor shots are now difficult to achieve without using flash, as the lens is now 2.8 at it's most wide setting, compared to the much better 1.8 before. It makes a BIG difference indoors. This is a wonderful camera if you mostly shoot outdoors in the sun, or if you plan to photograph at 200mm a lot (for wildlife, birds, kids sports games, etc). Also B&H service is incomparable - they are the best!

Just what I was looking for

Aug 6, 2018

I have carried a DSLR for years while traveling. I had the big backpack to store my lenses and accessories. On one of my recent travel adventures I realized I am just getting too old to carry all of that hardware with me in hopes of getting that perfect shot. I had a point and shoot from one of the major manufacturers but when rested on a tripod I realized I had a defective lens. I searched for another that would fit my criteria of sharpness and ... Less is more... Best DSC-RX100 yet

Great camera in a small package... what you may lose slightly in low light, you make up for in crystal clear telephoto capability. It will not replace my A9, but its the next best thing when you need to travel light. Less

minor, albeit aggravating, issue

Aug 6, 2018

I owned three RX100 versions before pre-ordering the M6, which I received the day before a foto trip. I would rate my previous versions 5-star but the M6 at 4-star for the issue described below. I carry the RX100 on trips with my big-body Sony. I particularly enjoy the RX100 because it goes where the big body doesn't - meals, casual walks, a boat ride to Mackinac Island, etc. The M6 performed well and I enjoyed the longer reach. However... Very nice range and still easy to use with excellent images. A bit pricey but nothing cheaper comes close.

All that I hoped for

Aug 1, 2018

Terrific image quality, and good steering through the compromise of longer telephoto reach in exchange for surrendering a bit of lens speed. The quality of high ISO images, however, relieves a bit of the concern over the f/2.8 lens speed as opposed to f/1.8 of earlier models. And it is still tiny, and light! Like my Mk I and Mk III of this same camera line, it fits easily in the pocket. Terrific photographic power in a camera that is easy to have with you.

Can't use RAW files yet

Aug 1, 2018

I had and sold the RX100 mark 5. I like the mark 6 and the slower lens seems a reasonable tradeoff for the 200mm zoom. One caution if you use RAW files and expect to process with Lightroom. You can't. LR does not yet work with these files. Hopefully soon???

Not meeting my high expectations

Jul 31, 2018

I read quite a few reviews before buying this camera and frankly I have been disappointed. Indoors in moderate light I end up with a lot of "soft focus" or downright fuzzy pictures because the lens is simply too slow. I am going to try the RX100Va version which has the faster lens and am hopeful that will be better. On the positive side this camera is lightning fast to focus and shoot, feels well made and does take excellent pictures in good light (such as outdoors). Also, side note, I could not find a diopter adjustment on the viewfinder and my over-40 eyes wish it had that adjustment...

2 Thumbs up!

We're heading to France and want to travel light! Received this item Friday and put it to work over the weekend. Side by side to my Samsung 8+ is no comparison when zooming. Took some nice slow motion captures of a storm rolling in to freeze some lightning shots. Fantastic. The quality is amazing and I am impressed. It's use for me will be mostly in AUTO mode. Given enough light this will blow the camera phone out of the water. Having the ability... Show More

Small and pwerful

Jul 31, 2018

Great little camera that does so much for such a small size. I wish that it did video longer than 5 minutes, but that is because it overheats being so small which I can accept. The pop up viewfinder is so nice for someone whose vision is not 20-20 and looking at the LCD on the back is not optimal. The batteries are the same as the action cam and that is convenient too. I have a Google Pixel 2 phone but the photos from this are always better.

Great camera, VERY compact. TOO compact?

Jul 30, 2018

Feature wise it's an incredible camera, and I am going to keep it. My only gripe is that it's so small, that it's easy to hit buttons you didn't intend on hitting (like video record) and you have to be careful you are hitting the button you intend. If you have large hands, I'd probably skip this camera.

Perfect for Wilderness Hiking and Backpacking

Jul 29, 2018

First use was on a day hike to Mt. Rainier. The 24-200 range is perfect for mountain photography and shooting pictures of wild life. Picture of Marmut was shot from 20 feet away. Digital extension provides additional range and provides good results. This camera takes great videos that are sharp and video stabilization works great. Swing down display was a big help shooting pictures of wild flowers. Well worth the price!

Great Travel Camera

Jul 28, 2018

My photography is mostly done when traveling, other than trying to photograph my dog, who like all my previous dogs, runs away when I point a camera at her. (They hate flashes and autofocus-assist lamps and they never forget.) I have used this camera on one day-trip to San Francisco and I am seriously wondering how I am going to reduce my bloated inventory of older no-longer-needed-cameras. In a good travel camera I want three things: small size,... Show More

I like the camera

Jul 26, 2018

Handed off the original version of this camera to my son when I purchased the new model. There are a lot of similarities. I like the additional zoom. I spend a lot of time running on trails, so the size and weight of this camera is a real plus. Great photos and features without all of the weight of my other cameras and zoom lenses. I think it is worth the price. Hopefully, it will hold up as well as the original model. Principal uses for me: pock... Show More

Just love the upgrades on the RX100 VI

Jul 26, 2018

I am very happy with my choice to upgrade from the RX100V to the RX100VI. The new RX100VI menus have been expanded and I am loving the focus peaking which I have on my Sony A7RM3. The improvements from the V to VI are worth the extra money.

big improvements in RX100-VI

Jul 26, 2018

I started with V-1 and upgraded to V-2, but refused to upgrade when Sony backed the zoom from 100 to 70. When this version came out 2 items stood out as winners to me - zoom to 200 and finally the viewing screen flips for doing selfies. Upgraded speed and cmos doesn't hurt. My only big wish is the touch screen is pathetic, compared to Lumix DS-Zs200, which the menus are great to work with. I actually have both cameras along with 3 other Sony newish bodies. Great camera for people who want a couple steps above a point and shoot, but don't want to carry around a bigger camera.

Fantastic travel camera does almost everything.

Jul 26, 2018

I would give this camera 5 stars if I only used it for photos. With video the lack of the ND filter really hurts in the afternoon sun. An external option would fix the issue hopefully Sony will come up with a solution. Other than that, I'm really happy with the camera. The 200mm is really a game changer together with photos at 24fps or high frame rate video makes filming sports or rodeo amazing.

RX100 VI

Jul 25, 2018

Great all around travel camera. I have an RX100 III and really liked it for still photos. I got the VI mostly for video. I'm getting great 4K video using it with a Zhiyun Crane stabilizer. Very portable package. I really like the zoom range for video although you have to be sure you are stable at 200mm (no surprise). The auto focus works well for video in good light. I haven't done any night video with it yet. The RX 100 III is better for stills in low light. All in all I'm satisfied with it.

Great zoom with a trade-off.

Jul 25, 2018

There's not much to say than the camera is great. The only two shortcomings are: 1. No more ND filters. 2. At 24mm the image distortion is very obvious. Both issues that were nonexistent in the previous generation. But definitely a solid buy.

Good except small battery capacity

Jul 23, 2018

I like most things about this camera: great image quality, long zoom, selfie mode, touch screen, evf, etc. However the battery lasts about only 200-240 shots. If you need to use it for a travel camera, do get extra battery and chargers.
