Exactly what I wanted
I bought this camera coming from the Canon system because I needed an auto focus system that was just flat out superior. My canon kept missing focus at a regular rate, and I needed a camera system that was much more reliable in terms of auto focus. The Sony a7R4 provides me everything that I need for portrait photography. I see a lot of folks saying that this camera is not for portraits, that its more of a landscape camera system. Because of the ... Show More

New Sony
Love my Sony gear. After 20 plus years with Nikons and another 16 years with Canons I am beyond impressed with the Alpha a7R IV, incredible images yield the results I was looking forward to.

Extremely Versatile
Prior to this A7R IV, I had the A6500 and the A7RII. I was very happy with both cameras, so I was a bit reluctant to make the upgrade. I am so happy I did. Others have commented about focus, eye recognition, sharpness, etc., and I also give high marks to all features of this camera. The one thing you may not think about is using this powerful camera in APS-C mode. Shooting in APS-C mode on the A7RIV only drops the megapixel count to 26.2 MP which... Show More

New favorite camera
The dynamic range of this camera is indescribable. I shoot primarily Canon and will be using that as my backup. Camera feels awesome in the hand!

Very happy customer
I had the a7RII for almost 4 years and it was just starting to feel a little slow - particularly when tethering in the studio. All the updates I wanted are here. The biggest things for me are wireless tethering, the two UHS-II card slots and the immense speed/focus capabilities. I love the new body and am very very happy. The a7RII will now be my backup body, keeping it in the family (which feels pretty awesome tbh)!

A7R IV Autofocus Is Epic
I shoot a ton of ice hockey. It requires fast focusing in some of the very worst lighting conditions. In the past I used the Canon 5Dmkiv & 5Dsr and the Sony A7R II & III with the 70-200 f2.8 L and Gmaster lenses respectively. I have not tried the A9 but I have to say the autofocus on the A7R IV tracking very fast moving subject that move in an out of other subject is the best I have used yet and it is very far ahead of the A7R III. Once a moving... Show More

Great camera for nighttime
Nighttime photographs and video is fantastic. Far better than any other camera and camcorder that I own. 4K video image stabilization is not perfect but good.

STEEP learning curve for me !
Firstly I want to say this camera is absolutely epic and the results can be also. With enthusiasm I bought it and upgraded from a A series.. I didnt realize what a leap it was until I tried tracking wildlife and sorting through the plethora of options and hundreds of dud shots ! 1 week in I thought I had made a massive mistake, 2 weeks in and I thought the equipment was faulty/incompatible.. 4 weeks in and many many test shots, seeking advice a... Polished powerhouse
I have gone through A7R, RII, RIII and just upgraded to the RIV. To get the most out of this particular model, the lenses you plan to use on it are very important. I have been using the Sigma 35mm 1.2 Art and am blown away by the amount of details this combination produces. Bigger grip is a much welcomed addition along with the slightly larger body, the camera feels much more balanced. The autofocus on this thing is absolutely amazing, the RIII w... Show More

Tried it
The camera shoots very nice images. Colors are very good. Nothing really to compare it to in compactness with 60MP. I will say you can get better results if you shoot RAW using Capture 1. The eye autofocus is great, works 90% of the time. The menu system is very awkward, and frustrating to work within. Just formatting cards requires many steps. Why no touch back screen is confounding for such an expensive body. I find the large G master lenses to... Show More

remove the strap eyelet
Sony needs to re-evaluate the camera strap eyelet. Unfortunately the right camera strap eyelet is constantly getting in the way when you are using the camera. It also becomes a problem when trying to put on a hand strap as its placement and design makes getting to all the control difficult. An in-body attachment point similar to Canon such be adopted.. Other than this - Amazing camera

Nearly perfect
I actually wanted to give the camera 4 1/2 stars but that was not an option. The camera takes amazing pictures and has been improved over the a7r iii in several major respects. My only criticism is that they still have not improved the menu system much. It is way to long, complicated and confusing. Once you get through it, however, this is an amazing instrument. The tracking focus works very well as does the eye focus. In most cases the focus speed is nearly instantaneous. The photos are astonishing...like medium format detail and depth. Battery life improved too. Highly recommended!

Sony A7r iv
Using camera with the sony 24-105 f4 G OSS Photos are very sharp, auto focus is outstanding. Love the auto face/eye focus. Get to know the menu options and customize to your liking, definitely worth taking the time to do so. Very happy with this camera.

solid all around full frame
I gave it 4 stars because not being true touch screen for the less than desired menu interface is kinda an everyday workaround. Still exploring and testing Pixelshift, and long exposure with this new sensor. Will likely post another sequel follow up review in another month.

Awesome Sony
Very happy with this camera! Great options and pictures taken. Also have a A7iii which is an awesome camera. This is much better and worth the cost to upgrade.

Brilliant
From the newly designed body to the crisp focus menu, this camera is everything I expected. Buttons are larger, which I appreciate having that for confident feel when navigating control. Picture quality is as expected. I can crop on an action shot and print without worry of any loss of substance. Truly worth the wait.

Remember F5.6 or better lenses
This is really a great camera. There are a few quirks that will hopefully be improved when Sony does its expected Firmware upgrade but it works great when you get it going. The quality of the photo's will blow you away. Its important to understand though that the diffraction limit of this camera, due to its 61MP FF sensor means that you really need to shoot quality glass that is F5.6 or better for Color, and about F8 for B&W. Of course you can us... Show More

Coming from Canon 5DSR
I was hoping for my Holy Grail nature photography camera: one camera that was perfect for landscapes and perfect for birds in flight. The Sony marketing had suggested this would be the one. I found the expanded dynamic range sensor to be super. Put away that graduated ND filter for landscapes! Photographing high contrast birds, such as eagles in full sun provides detailed un-blown out whites and low noise dark areas. Great! However, I found the a... Show More

Amazing
This is my first Sony camera after making the switch from Nikon this year. I preordered the camera and was not disappointed. B&H provides regular updates and shipped fast as soon as it released. Phenomenal customer service as always. I received the camera a few weeks ago and could not be more happy. The image quality is absolutely stunning and I was amazed at the features and customization this camera has built in. I definitely see myself staying with Sony for the foreseeable future no and picked up their Gmaster lenses. If youre on the fence, I would definitely take recommend this camera.
