Great pics from a small package

Great value, not to be missed !
Love this little guy-small, handy, quick access. Image quality is excellent and zoom is truly super with enough bells and whistles to keep me interested, but easy as pie when need be . A great addition to my gear mix !

A good choice
I bought this camera to use as a point and shoot when it was inconvenient to carry a full equipment bag. When working outside, going for a quick ride, or walk, I will throw this camera in my pocket and when I see a picture, I am able to quickly shoot a serviceable image. This is exactly what I wanted. So far, this camera has fully lived up to or exceeded my expectations. I have been pleasantly surprised with the image quality when compared to som... Show More

Such Thing As Perfect?
Purchased this camera after much research. My wife and I were looking for a point-and-shoot, pocket size, reasonably priced, quality camera. We are amateur photographers but knew what we needed and wanted. This camera fills the bill. It takes amazing pictures with its auto setting, response time between takes is fast, it fits comfortably in shirt or pants pocket, and is very easy to use. Had it about a month now and love it! Of course, time will tell as to serviceability.

Great camera for the price!
I bought it because I was going to Africa. I needed a point and shoot with a digital zoom that wasn't heavy. The pictures were clear, the zoom was wonderful, and unlike my Olympus you could zoom in while taking video. I am not a fan of the software, or the user manual. Make it a little easier for those of us who are not professional photographers please!

I regret my purchase
I initially liked this camera in spite of its poor image quality and lack of low-light performance. But after one year of ownership I now regret my purchase. After fewer than (an estimated) 1,000 shutter activations the viewfinder is broken. It's as if it's misaligned. It was fine one day then when I picked up the camera a few weeks later (after being stored properly) the viewfinder wasn't the same. I've never had a camera fail on me. This camera... Show More

Meets all expectations for pocket camera.
I shoot people, buildings and landscapes at home and when travelling, primarily on cruises. I generally make 4x6 prints to include in ongoing scrapbooks; nevertheless, I shoot at high resolution. Portability is very important, as is the electronic viewfinder, which I didn't have on my Canon SX260. Canon was o.k. but the lens got scratched, so I replaced it. Love the 30x zoom (Canon had 20x). I haven't used the wi-fi feature yet because I don't ha... Show More

Weighs a little world a lot
I love this little camera. It replaced my Lumix ZS20 which I took around the world for a number of years. The beauty of this camera is it's footprint. I've schlepped many cases of gear over my career and having a working tool that sits in the corner of your bag and weighs next to nothing and performs the way it does is a real joy. I use it along with my iPhone apps to scout locations for commercial shoots. It's also great for behind the scenes ph... Show More

Fantastic compact travel camera
Got this camera for my wife, to replace an SZ7 that died. The ZS50 has an eye-level viewfinder -- she always had a problem with the SZ7's screen in sunlight and the viewfinder makes a tremendous difference. And the long zoom is great too. All while maintaining the small, light profile that she loved on the SZ7. All in all, just about the perfect travel camera for her! (Personally I still prefer my FZ200, but for her that's big and heavy).

Good pictures but camera has a short lifespan
Had to send camera back under warrantie once and now the camera has died again. Panasonic says average repair cost $181.50. Plus tax and shipping. I don't think I want to tie $200.00 up in a repair that they will guarantee for 90 days. I had other digital with Leica pence and newer had a problem.

Excellent Pocket Camera
This is my wife's primary camera. It's small enough to carry in her purse, even in a case. Considering its size, the quality of the photos are pretty amazing, as long as you don't ask for miracles. In addition to a wealth of modes, it has several nice tricks up its sleeve for good photos, including an auto-leveling function that handles reasonable tilt. The WiFi function works well and the digital view finder makes it more discreet for photography at concerts and other events.

Good Pocket Size Super-Zoom
First want to note I have owned other Panasonic cameras, and currently own FZ200 and FZ1000. My comments (i.e., image quality, etc.) on the ZS50 is based on how the ZS50 compares to the FZ200. Obviously the ZS50 with its lens smaller f/3.3-6.4, overall image quality/ performance wise its not a pocket size equivalent of the FZ200. Overall been pleased with ZS50's image quality as I generally shoot using RAW files, and when using JPG files do not m... Show More

So Far, It's GREAT!
I've only had my new ZS50 for a couple of weeks and so far, I LOVE it. Perfect size, more zoom than I need, good, crisp images, nice close ups. I am looking forward to replacing my DSLR AND my mini-point and shoot with one camera! I think it is going to be perfect for travel. I especially like that it has a viewfinder, in addition to the LCD screen.

Cool little pocket camera with big features
I purchased this camera to carry to live music events. Many times at large festivals security will stop you from carrying in a larger camera that looks remotely like a professional piece of equipment. To eliminate this possibility I decided to try a pocket camera that looks pretty docile. Enter the Lumix ZS-50 with Leica glass. To the untrained eye the camera looks like any garden variety point and shoot from a discount department store. To the tra... Show More

Pocketable Power
I have wanted a nimble alternative to my full-size DSLR for years. Most point-and-shoot cameras didn't fit my bill--I am too old school to compose at arms length peering at the back of the camera. The eye-level viewfinder on this camera was a first draw; the zoom was another. While I still ended u getting a mirrorless system for portability, the Lumix is the the camera I can have with me at all times with no hassles. One thing to be aware of is that although a 720mm (equivalent) is great magnification, you have to have rock-steady hands or extremely good light to use it!

Not your father's Lumix!
The camera has disappointed. Overall camera body quality poorer than the ZS7 I was replacing. On/off switch changed to one that is too easily triggered. This caused zoom to attempt opening INSIDE the case..jamming lens. The paint has faded off the mode wheel. The camera has gone back twice for factory repairs. It takes lovely pictures and video in good light, but low light stills ...not so much.

A compact with outstanding feautures
I bought this for my wife, and the day to day baby pics. I picked this camera because of the great Leica optics... even thou its a compact it has a great zoom. Very handy, light. Electronic View Finder has a small lag, but works great.

So Far So Good
This is my 2nd Lumix camera. This one has a ton of new features...problem will be to remember how to use them. Love the slo-mo movie feature! My other Lumix camera broke after about 4 years...hope this one last longer.

Great pictures and great zoom
Bought this to supplement/replace my ZS19 (20x zoom) - wanted the 30x zoom. Zoom works great, camera takes terrific pictures, battery life is good - but did buy a spare. The IA (intelligent auto) on this is a little different in that rather than adjusting settings, it will automatically shift into scene settings if it senses that is appropriate. On my other Panasonics to get to a specific scene mode, I had to changed the dial to scene mode. On th... Show More

I must request a return authorization; and it's rare for me The images were tested using my Spyder LensCal at a variety of focal lengths. I'll probably buy another Panasonic but with more resolution. ZS60 or ZS100 when they are available.

Great Travel Camera
When you don't want to lug around a SLR this camera is an excellent choice. It has a vast array of both automatic and manual settings, is compact and solidly built. It does take good pictures in a variety of situations. The wide zoom ratio and electronic viewfinder are obvious benefits. The issue with your fingers blocking the flash doesn't bother me as I use flash as a last resort. My one complaint is the lack of a printed manual (typical of mos... Show More

Great for travel
I bought this for a trip to Africa and specifically wanted something easy to carry on hikes and fit into limited luggage space, but that would also have a good zoom for taking decent photos of wildlife. This camera worked well on both counts. I also liked the look of the camera itself.
