Great for filmmaking
For the money you'd be hard pressed to find a more capable camera. And while some complain about the lack of image stabilization or autofocus, these become a non-issue when using cinema lenses, the mft mount is a bit tighter than others, which keep the lens steady when adding a follow focus, or put on the metabones PL speedbooster or t-cine locking EF (both .71x).

The best low light camera for the money!
Read the headline a thousand times! I am a professional videographer, educated one, I have owned a countless number of cameras, but this one, this one it outperforms her self. GH5 can't compete video wise with GH5s, not even close. I did the wedding with the GH5s, cranked its ISO between 3200 and 5000, filmed in 4K, watched on 4k monitor, just WOW!!! I used to swear in GH5, not anymore. I will use GH5 for photos, and GH5s for videos. I am mostly doing real estate videos and photos. Bottom line: the future proof camera. Over!

too much noise with VFR.
It's a good camera, but the biggest reason I switched from the Blackmagic pocket cam to the GH5s was so I could record above 60fps. As others have mentioned, there's simply too much noise at higher frame rates.

Home Run
I bought this camera strictly for video purposes, so no comments about photography. I have been shooting video with my 5D MKIII ever since it came out and loved it, but needed more. The GH5s delivers much, much, much, much, much more. And probably a bit more than that. Excellent camera, excellent support, excellent accessories from the third party world, incredible image quality. No way I could say enough good things about this camera.

Great low light beast but the noise in VFR mode is horrible
I originally had the GH5 but sold it because of it's low light performance and replaced it with the GH5S. Everything is awesome about the camera, but just like everyone else is mentioning, the ugly horizontal lines across the footage makes it useless and unusable (VFR mode only). I'm hoping Panasonic will bring a FW update that will take care of this issue, since they're known to push bug fixes, extra feature through updates all the time. I hope Panasonic is listing to us Thanks

VFR / Noise / Horizontal
Would have been 5 star if vfr worked correctly! Cant even go past 60fps as really bad noise appears no matter the exposure/iso settings! There are many of us who are experiencing the same problem! Horizontal noise / not clean at all when shooting vfr. (Above 60fps especially noticable. Greenish tint/horizontal lines etc.) There is also another issue: when changing iso, nothing happens... You have to hit record for the iso to change. (Many are experiencing this as well) Gh5s Facebook groups are all talking about these issues. Will a firmware update fix them?

VFR horizontal noise yields unusable footage
Rating would have been a 5 star rating if there's no VFR issues. Upgraded from a GH4, love everything from the low light performance improvement to the 4k60p, 10 bit shooting modes, one big issue is the horrible horizontal noise you get when you use the Variable Frame Rate mode above 60fps. This noise only appears when you use the VFR mode, not an issue of how high the ISO is, or what color profile you use, cos even at the native ISOs the real... Show More

Good camera, but not for slowMotion: noise horizontalpattern
Panasonic: We are expecting a software update for fixing the big noise problem in VFR (slow motion) all units have the same chrominance, luminance and horizontal pattern noise. More noise in v-Log, less in Estandard profile, but more than GH5 Really, is a great camera with amazing DCI4K in 24-30-60Fps, but i need shot in slow motion

Small, compact, low light beast!
I own the GH5 and G9 and bought the GH5s specifically for low light video usage. It is quite amazing to see how far the technology has come. I remember not so long ago when micro 4/3 technology was lagging behind APS-C. With its dual native ISO (400/2500ISO and 800/5000ISO in Vlog L) this camera packs so many features. I use it mainly on a tripod in very low light so stabilization is a non-issue for me. It feels solid, it is weatherproof, with this Lumix line up I am able to cover all my photo/video needs.

My new toy!
I have been a Nikon user for twenty years and I realized that I need to do more video work about half year ago. Since then I had been debating the Nikon D850, Sony 7A III and GH5. When I was almost sold for Gh5 and had B&H to exchange it due to minor problems, the GH5S was on the market. I waited till February and received the new GH5S, however, the first copy gave me double images in a single photo shot. then B&H sent me the 2nd copy and I took ... Show More

Panasonic finally got it RIGHT!!
I have a history with Panasonic! I owned the Dvc7 (mini tape) camcorder in 2007, Panasonic Gh2 for 2 years, Panasonic Gh4 for3 years.. I have always desired the low light capability of the full frame 5D mk2.. and the current Sony A7sII... looking to upgrade, it was between the Gh5 and Sony A7sII... I was ready to jump ship from my beloved Panasonic for that full frame and low light... Then it happened. GH5s came and I wasted no time to buy it. No lie or exaggeration, Micro 4/3rds finally competes with the A7sII and Mini ursa 4.6k in low light!!!

Hesitant at first but worth it
The more I get to know it, the more I love it. It really gives me so much more to play with with two extra stops. Rich and crisp images with fantastic color science.

Very pleased with this camera.
It took me some time to pull the trigger as I own a GH5. But I'm glad I did. The GH5S is a killer upgrade to the GH5. The Dual ISO allows me to shoot in low lit receptions with lower noise and maximum dynamic range. The usability increase is worth the loss of the IBIS and the 6k anamorphic.

Some great features/image quality but wrong body
It's a video/cine camera so why put it in a photo camera body?! Give us this camera in cine camera body with XLR audio and internal ND filters and I'd gladly pay $4,000 for it. I was gonna give it a 3-star because of the photo body nonsense but the GH5s is still the best option for video under $6000 if you need good low light capabilities. I've never been a big fan of the GH series, the image always felt crushed and often muddy, especially in low... Show More

Gain little bit in low light, but worth it?
First I want to declare that English is not my first language, so forgive my grammar this time. You lose 10 MP to get bigger pixel and expect a better low light performance. Yes, Panasonic did it, But this improvement only benefits the video takers. The low light performance in video is much better than my EM1 Mark ii. What I also expect is the improvement on still shots. From my photography experience, I have to say, there's almost no difference... Show More

perfect video camera for my needs
I love this camera for video. I shoot still photos and video full time and I previously owned Panasonic GH4's and GH5.'s I enjoyed those cameras for video except they were not good in low light. Panasonic addressed this with the GH5S. I use the GH5S primarily for wedding and event videos and short promo videos, I do not use this camera for still photos. I do not think the GH5 produces the best stills This camera is perfect for me I am almost alw... Show More

Lots to learn...
This has the potential to be a great camera. The learning is going to take a while.. but boy it sure is gonna be fun. So far it has been a great camera right out of the box. We'll be heading outside soon to put it through it's paces.

This is for FILM MAKERS, not really for stills or wedding vi
I am an indi film maker and have a tight budget. Most of my work is for reels for actors and short form as well as some industrial and feature work. This is an amazing camera. PLEASE DO YOUR RESEARCH BEFORE YOU BUY. If you are a wedding video or run and gun with no stabilizers, this is not the camera for you. I own equipment to make up for the fact that they took out stabilization and the trade off for the low light is well worth it. If you are n... Show More

Usable 60fps 4K in a small form factor
If you need a small 4K camera that can do 60fps and plan on integrating the footage with images shot on a RED or Alexa, this camera is for you. It is surprisingly robust and packed with features not usually found in the DSLR form factor. Timecode anyone? It is a great addition to the tool kit.

This review is for guys like me who want a video-photography camera. After months of reviews and research, I was finally going to pull the trigger on the GH5, and that same week they announced the new GH5S. I knew with the GH5S I had to have very little expectations for pictures but, anyway I purchased it. After a week testing it I must say and ag... Show More

Great Camera
This is for professionals. Great as a B or C camera. Small enough to get in places where a Red wouldnt fit. Great as a main camera if your on a budget. I own GH5 as well and these two are my favorite mirrorless cams. Excellent image quality!
