I bought this to replace a five-year-old device, which was failing to read some discs. This was a simple change-out, and the new unit works fine under both Windows 7 and Ubuntu 18.04 (dual boot). I didn't use the software that comes with the device; some people may find it useful if they don't already have software.

Had to replace both LG units which were never really used very heavy. Now hoping this will last just as long, only longer under norm usage

I am very happy with this DVD Drive. It was basically plug and play. Installation and downloading was a breeze and it plays excellently!
