These are the sequel to the s4 series, which were the best deal on the market for five years -- and now, unfortunately, no more. But not all is lost! The R6 series has a sturdier construction, thicker, less tangle-prone cables, and a bit more bass than the s4. Thankfully, they haven't cranked up the bass to Beats levels as so many companies have, trying to chase the consumer who thinks more bass = better sound. The mids aren't quite as warm as on... Show More the s4, but these still have, far and away, the best dynamic range of any headphones - in, on, or, around the ear - that you'll find under $. They deliver satisfying grind and thump playing rock or rap, yet can tease out the delicate subtleties of a Mozart sonata without sounding thin or hollow. These not only beat everything else in the price range hands down, there's quite a few headphones at two or three times the cost that these can put to shame, sound-wise.I do find the new design a little less comfortable than the petit s4's. While those were well-suited to draping the cord over the ear, or inserting directly, the R6 are designed to have the cord dangle straight down from the ear -- although they don't always stay well-put that way. Draping the cord over the ear, however, will result in the mic/control being high up behind your jaw. The silicone tips are still the same as previously, and provide a reasonably secure fit even if, like me, you have a big and somewhat odd-shaped ear opening.Show Less
