Does the job, but could be better

Feb 28, 2011

I'm a praise team worship leader and we use these devices as in ear monitor systems. We love the price point as church budgets usually need creativity to accomplish greatness. All 6 of our musicians used them this week (drummer, bass, electric guitar, piano, vocalist and acoustic guitar) and not only did they help each member hear more clearly, the MA400 drastically cut down on stage noise by eliminating our wedge monitors. My only complaint is t... Show More

Impressive Unit

Feb 5, 2014

Can't believe I'm writing a Behringer review. I am not using this as specified. I bought specifically for a focus group project that had an air wall in-between clients and focus group. So I used these for clients to hear without using traditional speakers. These sound clean and do a great job. Because there is a loop through on the mic side I was able to loop all of them together. The four clients were able to create there own area on their table... Show More

A Simple, Effective Tool

Jul 25, 2012

This is another great product from Behringer. I use this to control my headphone volume while editing video on the PC. My process involves playing unedited clips and then reviewing clips placed in context, and these have two very different volume levels. Until I got the Behringer MA400, I was constantly setting volume levels by using the mouse--a tedious process. Now it's very easy to adjust volume with the simple, old-fashioned volume knob on th... Another Behringer Rival

Jun 18, 2013

Over the past few years Behringer have been creating products at a fraction of the price to the consumer for the same rivalled quality. This is no exception - fair enough i'm using high quality in earphones but without this to get it to my ears i'd be stuck! It's a clever bit of equipment allowing you to essential mix yourself and let the sound engineer also give you a mix (and let's be honest....you probably want as much control as you can!). It... Nice for practicing at home!

Aug 15, 2014

This headphone amplifier comes with a necessary power supply. I bought it to practice at my rental flat (no amplifier possible due to noise). This amplifier can be fed with two signals, one from your instrument (from the effectboard, mixer, di box or whatever) and one from an external source like a computer etc. The handling is a bit tricky and you might need a few more adapter cables (which Thomann can provide!) but as soon as everything is inst... Does its job

Aug 19, 2014

I got this headphone amp for recording purpose. If someone needs an own monitor mix, I can link this Behringer to the aux send of my mixing console and dial in the sound I need. Independent from the main mix. The MA400 does its job well, connects to everything I need without problems, has a lot of power, no hum and the amount of hiss is tolerable. No device for hi-fi-gear-heads, but no crap either. The housing is quite solid, the connectors a... Show More

Very useful item to have in your case

Nov 1, 2016

I've got a few of these now (mostly the older silver version, although the only change appears to be the colour of the finish) They are a useful tool to keep with you for various 'get out of jail free' moments. I often use them to combine a click feed with a feed from the desk for a drummers in ear monitors, and have used them in rehearsal rooms for various monitoring purposes. They feel very well made, and have a good variety of inputs etc. ... Show More

Switches, jacks, and mucho flexibility, but not much gain

Dec 29, 2016

Purchased as a headphone amp to drive a simple in-ear monitor used with a synth module. The2 sizes of headphone jacks and mono/stereo switch caught my attention. Had been using an old battery-poweredRadio Shack earphone amp,but wanted something with a level control and more dependable (external) power. Checked it out with a pair of Sennheiser 280 Pro full-ear phones and a pair of higher-end Sony ear buds. The MA400's gain falls far short of the R... Show More

VERY GOOD

May 4, 2017

Really good, compact headphone amplifier. It has jack and XLR input and also one XLR output which is perfect for stages as you can use it as monitor and continue the line into the next one without any problem. I use it as in-ear monitor + metronome. Yes you can have 2 things in at once which is pretty cool for me. You also have jack and aux output for headphones. You can also change output signal to MONO or STEREO which help's me a lot with metro... Show More

It's cheap and it works!

Aug 25, 2014

I work alone in the studio and I was tired of going into the control room to adjust my headphone volume. This Behringer unit provided a cheap and easy way for me to adjust the volume from the recording booth! It's built well, I've dropped it a few times and it has never had a problem. You can route your mic through it but I prefer to take this straight into the desk as the unit is a little noisy. My friend borrowed it to do some drum re... Show More

Very small and useful stuff

Jan 23, 2019

You can mix a stereo and a mono signal with this box for your headphones. The quality is fairly good, the sound as well. Good thing that you can plug the monitor signal into the mic input (you should moderate the level to avoid distortion). It can be useful for drummers, or for vocalists. If you have phantom power on your mixer or audio interface, you can use condenser microphones as well although the equipment doesn't have own phantom power. The only complaint is about the power because it won't be loud enough with headphones which have a high impedance.

Did not meet my expectations

Jan 29, 2011

I planned to use this product to amplify the volume of my in-ear monitors that I use on-stage. I also wanted the option of adding some additional guitar volume by using the mic input. I expected this to be an amplifier, but it actually DECREASED the volume of my headphone signal, by a large margin. Even at maximum volume, the headphone signal was a lot quieter with the MA400 than without. As far as I can tell, it may be a mixer, but it definitely is NOT an amplifier -- at least mine wasn't. Sent it back.

Good for on-stage monitoring

Dec 27, 2017

Bought this for using with in-ear monitors on stage for monitoring guitar. So far sounds very good and has transparent signal. Only thing i wish was better - switchable line in/mic in button - mic in has quite high level, so sending in an usual signal from processor can overdrive the signal. Solved this by turning down right channel of my guitar processor(I am sending to FOH just mono signal), so I can achieve loud signal without distorting it.

Simple, Effective, and Inexpensive

Nov 21, 2011

We were looking for an inexpensive monitoring system for a 3 piece band that plays weekly in a small venue. We bought one Behringer MA400 for the guitarist/singer, and are now outfitting the whole band with them. It is simple and effective. Letting you level the monitor mix and your own line independently is very useful. There are no bells or whistles, but what the Behringer MA400 does, it does well. And you can't beat the price!

Great idea, but limited output

Sep 4, 2014

This is a great idea to get a quick wired IEM fix for a singer. I used it by tapping the singers microphone with this little box, and feeding it a stereo mix of the rest of the band from the console. Unfortunately, I find the headphone output is quite weak in comparison to similar products, otherwise this would be ideal for the live environment. I can imagine it would be fine in a studio situation (maybe not for drummers!).

Perfect for us!

Jun 20, 2011

Much cheaper than wireless monitor system, and it works great. I can send one monitor mix to all vocalists, they can add in their mic through the line throughput, and dial in their own mix from those two levels. I want to mount this on the mic/music stands, but I can't find a mounting kit for it. It does have two screw-holes on the back, which I assume are for mounting, so I may have to rig something up.

Great Little Headphone Amp

Jan 30, 2011

I use this amp when I have a gig where I want in-ear monitors and the system only has floor monitors. I just plug the floor monitors into the MA400 and plug in my in-ear headphines. It is an inexpensive and effective solution when in a pinch. I keep this with all my gear. I used it the other night playing drums on a gig and it gave me the volume control I needed.

good product does what it says it will

I use this in a live band situation. As a bass player or guitarist you have a cord anyhow, so to incorporate in ear monitors is just one more cord with a fraction of the cost of wireless. Haven't had it that long to comment on quality but seems durable. Everything works like it should. Compared to Rolls PM50S, does the same thing $10 or so cheaper with no tax...

So happy with the first unit, I had to buy a second one for my home studio...Have use in live situations as well and the sound is pretty descent went connected to an AUX coming from the mixing board. It is not that great by itself if you're rehearsing or monitoring a Bass or guitar by itself. Overall is a great little box and one of the cheapest on the market.

Very useful device. We used 2 of them for our power trio for IEM with wires. Its super easy and I've used them in a few different situations. Also useful for Drummers taking a click track form a phone etc and mixing it with a return from the FOH. Also good to have on the floor for those gigs where you just don't get enough vocals in your monitors.

Experimental audio

Dec 5, 2012

The vocalist was confused about how load her voice was coming through the main mix at the hall. It affected her ability to perform. We plan to do a duo with vocal and guitar. The monitors in the place are a bit out of phase with the echo in the hall. The plan is to bypass all this up front and perform in a bubble as it were.

Super Quiet not for amplification

Feb 5, 2014

I bought this to amplify the headphone output from my laptop. It was much quieter with it. I tried it on several sources with different combinations of plugin. I would say it was made to be a little mic mixer and they threw the name amp on it. It's quieter than without it.

It looks good and has the necessary connections for what it was made for. The amp is sub par though. It can't drive any headphones loud enough at all. My iPod is louder than this thing with the same headphones. If its LOUD you are looking for look on elsewhere.
