I have these mics hooked up to Sony Digital Voice Recorders. They work GREAT!!! Don't waste your money on expensive wireless microphones that don't ever give you 100% reliable, great sounding audio. Get these mics paired up with an audio recorder for professional sound!!!I've been in the video business for over 6 years, and have had horrible experiences with all other professional brands, including: Shure, Sennheiser, and others... Ever since I've abandoned my wireless, $ systems and replaced them with these inexpensive mics paired up with Sony Digital Voice Recorders, I have had REMARKABLE audio, and will never go back to the wireless systems. It takes a little more time to edit and sync the audio to the video, but the end product is WELL worth it!!!These simple, inexpensive mics are GREAT to use for every day recording: talking heads, interviews, weddings, commercials, ambient sound, etc! ... I'm far from an audiophile, and bought mic to plug in to a Tascam DR-08 for use as a mic when recording vows, reception speeches, etc. Two different sales people at B&H told me that this mic would not work with the Tascam DR-08. The first sold me on the Pearstone OLM-10 lavalier mic which worked really well. However, the cord between the 3.5mm mini plug and the microphone is 20 feet long! That's a lot of cord to get neatly tucked into a vest pocket. Also, since the Pearstone has its own power, you have to worry about turning the mic on, AND that the battery has juice. That's too many variables for me. I bought this, against the salesman's advice, and couldn't be happier. The sound is good -- sounds just fine to my novice ears -- the cord is 3-4 feet long, doesn't require a battery, and works with my DR-08. If your recorder supports plug-in power (make sure it does) then you shouldn't have any problems using this lav mic. ... More

Having only just purchased this very inexpensive lavalier mic last week, I had the chance to use it during a wedding shoot in the Wisconsin Dells on May 28 on a very windy day. I had the mic plugged into a Zoom H1 recorder and attached to the officiant, the sound quality was really great even under extreme windy conditions, the wind screen that came with the mic worked really well. I needed it in a pinch because one of my other very pricy lavs had a broken cord, this Azden lav worked great, what a deal for under $25! I can't tell the difference between this mic and one of the expensive ones I have. The length of the cable was fine for my use but others have longer cables. I love it and I'm ordering a few more as backups!! ... More

Excellent peice of equipment that I have used on many professional interview shoots. I was using an Audio Technica Mic with the cable that was 20 feet long plugged directing into my DSLR, but I was never quite happy with the quality. This little Azden Lav plugged into a Zoom H1 is now my field audio setup and the output is fantastic compared to what I was getting with the Audio Technica. The windscreen never falls off and the gear feels high quality. Worth every penny. I will probably get two just so I have another as a back up. It works perfectly as a wireless mic setup. I hit record on the Zoom, clip it on the talent, they put in their pocket and off we go. I also use Plural Eyes to sync in post- it's a really cool setup. ... More

I MUST DISAGREE with a previous review from Jonny PA they are durable as much as my sony ones costing 7 times the price. Here's a tip for those of you who are rough or sloppy with your gear. IT'S A WIRE so be careful and don't abuse of it!!! When I put these mics away or ANY set of laws by the way, I observe the original bending marks that came from factory. don't re-bend the cables to fit your bag. Make the BAG fit the cable! Following these suggestions will make your delicate lav wire to last until 2080 or longer. I'm a very busy videographer and do lots of run and gun. Nothing I own ever breaks. I own 2 of these mics with their complete lav system Excellent audio capture. It's quiet, crisp yet gentle on highs and no hiss!I use this on the Azden lav system and ALSO worked flawlessly on a Gopro hero 4 via external audio using this mic. ... More

I shoot weddings and own a higher end wireless mic system. This mic's sound pickup is not very strong, it is really only able to pick up the person it is on, our other mic can pick up that person and those around him/her. For the price, you get a decent mic, but don't expect it to be your main workhorse for events. If you just want to mic one person for simple interviews, it'll work well. We bought this to replace one that was broken, so it isn't the most durable thing in the world.

Have a few of these with me on every shoot, use them for anything and everything. They work well indoors without the windscreen and just fine outside with the windscreen as well. I have compared them with a few other quality lapel mics and as long as you know how to work your feild recorder keeping your input levels accurate you will not be able to tell much of a difference between this mic and a $100.00 mic. I use mine with either a Zoom H1 or H2. Only complaint is the clip is expensive to replace if you loose it so I also purchased a few Pearstone Universal Lapel mic clips that work really well with this lav. ... More

Looking for an inexpensive lavalier microphone with great sound quality that I could use with my GoPro Hero 3 Black Edition, seemed like the impossible. After trying a few other lavalier mics without great results, I decided to try the Azden EX-503L and I couldn't be happier. People have been complimenting me on my professional sound quality - which just goes to show you don't need to spend a fortune to get great audio!Pros - inexpensive, clear sound quality, sturdy connector and effective noise cancelling windscreen.Cons - (kinda) Around other electronic devices, it sometimes picks up a lot of feedback. I have found that by deleting the right channel and creating dual mono with the left channel, it eliminates the feedback... and sounds better when using headphones. ... More

I have a set of these mics came with my dual wireless azden unit. At less then 10 interviews and 7 months,I was getting clicking drop-outs and thought at 1st that it was wireless internet or local EMS transmissions knocking it out.No it was the poor choice of cable used for these mics that was the issue. So I head here to buy two replacements these lasted about 3 interviews and less then 4 months. These wires develop bad connections and will ruin your shoots and final product. Azden is not really interested in this.I get things wear out and I deal with that as a small business owner all the time but I'm not interviewing gymsts these are all sit down interviews for them to fail so early is clearly a materials issue. ... I had to replace the lav microphone for an Azden WR-PRO wireless mic pack (not the microphone's fault... it literally was trampled by the talent...). I tried some quick replacements while this was in the mail, but I was glad when the package showed up since nothing could match the sound of the original. It has great pick-up while also ignoring a lot of background noise, such as a busy highway or a crowded convention hall. If you have an Azden pack, BE SURE TO GET THIS MIC. If you get an electrocet mic that is powered by a battery, you get a bad buzz in the audio line. The only con I have seen is that the tie-clip included is a bit flimsy, doesn't really grip well and is easy to lose. ... More

I wanted a wired Lavalier that worked with my iPhone for my YouTube tutorial videos, etc. I was recommended the rode Lavalier, which is slightly more expensive than this one. The rode had a tremendous amount of hiss and the found quality was awful compared to this azden lav! Nice clean sound and plenty of cord to attach to my phone in my pocket. Highly recommended!

I bought three of the EX-503L lav microphones to replace three older ones I had, two since 2009 and one since 2012. They'd been used a lot, and it comes as no surprise that clients aren't always gentle with the videographer's gear. They'd been tugged at, knotted up, you name it through the years. Recently, I'd noticed a drop in quality of the audio I was getting from my wireless units. Replacing the microphones seems to have fixed the problems. I had an all day long corporate shoot where I used all three of my Azden UHF units going into a Zoom H6. The audio was nice and clean. I'm very pleased with the performance of the EX-503L mics. ... I recently picked up three of these for backups for a corporate video shoot. After testing them, I decided to give them a try as our main Lav mics. They worked flawlessly for every segment we shot. And the price cannot be beat. Of course, they are omni-directional, so ambient room sound has to be strictly controlled. As given the price range, these mics cannot compare to the units 10x the cost, and sound can run a bit 'tinny' unless placed perfectly. But we found them excellent additions to our audio kit, and will be getting more as our audio needs expand. ... More

I have been using these microphones for over 20 years in my wedding videography business. They are dependable and durable which is important in this business. There are higher priced alternatives, which I have tried and for the cost difference, 99% of my clients would never know the difference. So I buy these and the money saved allows me to buy other gear. Don't let the low price fool you, these in my opinion are just fine for my market and use.

It's an in-expensive solution to capturing spoken audio. Best use for this unit is spoken work capture for example a groom lavaliere at a wedding. I wouldn't use this for high fidelity capture but, that is not what it's intended for. Actually, I would't use a lavaliere mic for high fidelity audio any way.

I use this as a clip on mic for interviews and wedding video. It works especially well for weddings to capture the vows and go along with the video. I was impressed with how clear the sound was and the noise cancelling was great. The only draw back is that it records in 1 channel mono as opposed to 2 channel stereo. Its very hard to notice unless you are wearing headphones however.

Works fine in my classroom as a general purpose mic. I like the lapel clip (included). The downside is the apparent weakness of the connection where the wire enters the mic itself. My first EX-503 went bad at this connection, but, hey, it lasted over 2 years of daily use.

I got this to replace the Azden mics I have. The Azden ones require battery power and have a cord a mile long. When I'm working weddings, I need it to work every time and I hate to stock those stupid watch batteries. Plus, the cord was always so long and I felt bad asking grooms and officiants to stash it in their pocket. This mic solved all that. The cord is the perfect length to go from the lapel to the recorder in their pocket and it doesn't require additional power. Audio quality more than acceptable for speaking. The only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is that it is only mono and not stereo. It's a minor thing for me but stereo would be nice. ... More

Guys, seriously, go with this microphone. It gives great semi-professional sound, and it's a great price! What I did is I bought a Sony voice recorder and I use this mic plugged into the mic jack of the voice recorder to sync up to my video interviews later...I get great results! I also use a Rode mic ontop of my DSLR for more depth to my interview sound and as backup sound, but I do love this little mic! Highly recommend!
