Great Lightweight Lens - Super Sharp Video
I love this lens and find it great for still photos when you need detail and Bokeh. This lens is also absolutely incredible for video and is a nice lightweight lens for use on a Gimbal.

My first Sony Lens worked perfectly
I purchased the Sony A7 III with this lens. It was a perfect match. My intention was to use it during a trip and I was looking for a light equipment with good results. The results were wonderful for my taste, as good as (or even better) my Nikon D750.

Suitable for automatic uses
Shooting on the a7rii in automatic modes, this 55mm lens is a good prosumer product and visual quality is an improvement over Sony's cheaper lenses of this kind and its light weight makes it useful for many day-to-day uses. But when one needs to work manually, the lens is limited, and for those working in video who wish to pull focus and such, there are much better options.

It's meh
I returned it after seeing the difference between the planar 50 and this. My brother owns the 50 and it's so much clearer zoomed in on an a7r3.

Sharp,clear,vibrant and reliable
Shooting weddings,this lens is always on one of my camera bodies. Its brilliant! Fast AF,amazing sharpness & color. Every Sony shooter should have one. I use it for everything.

Could not be happier
I have the FE 50 f/1.8 and for the money it's pretty amazing. The 55mm is however in a class all by itself. This lens is tack sharp with beautiful contract and color. It's my favorite street lens as it's smaller than most of the other higher end Sony glass especially at that f stop. I love this lens, get one!

Minimalist design
So far I have not tried it, I bought it on offer and I'm waiting for my sony 7iii to arrive. I thought it would be smaller, I think it's the ideal size for a mirrorless camera. The design is minimalist and very solid. Without a doubt the construction is of very good quality.

This lens has a great reputation. My experience reinforces that reputation. It is very sharp...which is what I was looking for. It is also very light and fits my Alpha r11perfectly for all around daily use..

Excellent for a Zeiss-branded Sony Lens
Lens feels premium with metal body, but AF motors are loud and a little slow. Bokeh, color, and contrast are superior to the f/1.4 version of this lens. Images have unique character which are similar to the pure Zeiss lenses. Worth picking up when you can find it on sale.

Excellant lens
Like everyone else, I considered this lens and the (slightly) faster Sony 1.4. But decided to get this one because of size. The 1.4 was just too big for the Sony A7 that I have and seemed to miss the point of having smaller gear to do walk around shooting with. I am NOT disappointed. It is a beautiful lens, well made and very sharp and accurate in its autofocus.

Just switched to Mirrorless bought a Sony A7rII read a review on best lens for my Sony and this lens was rated number one as to what to use , so I bought it and am happy to say the guy knew what he was talking about very sharp love it.

I expected more from a Zeiss lens...
I got this lens to replace my inexpensive but effective Somy 50mm f1.8 for my a7riii. The autofocus is very fast. The lens is indeed tack sharp and it focuses much better than the 50mm in low light. I am very disappointed however at the large amount of purple fringing (chromatic aberration) it creates. I would say it has even more than the less expensive 50mm alternative. Im thinking of returning this lens and getting a Canon L 50mm and use my Metabones adaptor.

Sharp! Sharp! Sharp!
When fitted to my A7Rii at 42MP this 55mm lens allows me to crop in to sections of the frame as if they were the whole original frame size. Color, contrast and auto focus speed are also very good. it's not an inexpensive "normal" lens, and sometimes I wish it were a 50mm or even a 45mm instead of 55mm, but I'm very pleased and impressed with the image quality.

Good lens
This lens is sharp, fast focusing and lightweight. Coupled with the a7RIII it makes for a nice walking around camera-lens combination.

Sharp, good build, nice size, great for video also
My first lens for my a7R III, just moved from Canon. It is as sharp as any lens I have used, size is reasonable on the mirrorless body, same quality as a Canon L lens. The price was good for what you get. No issues with video the AF motor is silent. The only issue is the lens is not compatible with Pre-AF which is disappointing since it is a native lens.

One of the Best

Heaven forbid I lose it, would definitely buy it again.
Use this lens on both my 7R2 and 6000. It is the sharpest lens (50mm range) I have used, on the 7R2 it allows for cropping without noticeable loss off detail. Did a 20x30 print amazing.

Compact, sharp as a tack
Pretty great lens here. I actually prefer the 50mm Zeiss 1.4 but it is quite a bit larger. I use primarily for video and the 50mm looks more cinematic to me. Size, price and quality though, you can't beat the 55.

Beyond my expectations
I bought this lense after reading many positive reviews. Now I can say it is beyond my expectations. This lense is very sharp. It's light and compact, well baclanced when put on my Sony A7R2. Absolutely a nice lense.
