A great lens for multi purposes!

Dec 27, 2017

I searched for a while for a multi-purpose lens which could be used for bothe portrait and landscape. Considering the price, specs, weight, functions, etc, I finally decided to go with this and it was perfect as expected. The lens helped me keep a wonderful memory of this Chritmas!

Very Versatile Lens

Shot this image hand held standing on the same spot. The first image is with the lens at 24mm, and the second image is with the lens at 240mm. Shutter speed is 1/40th sec. ISO is 2500. How can you beat this lens for any practical application.

Wonderful lens, delicate plastic around the glass.

Nov 19, 2017

I recently purchased this lens with my new a6500 body. While I do not remember my clumsiness with the lens, I was devastated to discover the plastic around the glass cracked through and through. Thankfully, the photo quality does not seem affected; however, any filters do not attach well. A big bummer on the quality side of the lens.

Compact, sharp, easy to use and easy to carry. I don't have anything negative to say about this lens. Wish I had bought it 2 years ago.

Its actually a very good lens!

Oct 23, 2017

After reading some not favourable reviews I was hesitant to buy one, but I felt I had to give it a try. I bought one OB from B&H and it looks like brand new with all the intact packaging, accessories in plastic bags and even manuals in a plastic bag. After testing it in various lighting conditions and using different focal lengths I can conclude that this lens in 90% of shooting scenarios is the same as having both : 24-70 f4 and 70-300. I love this lens!!!

Sep 24, 2017

There's nothing quite like it native for sony E-Mount the range is incredible, specially considering that it starts at 24mm NOT at 28mm like others do. I wasn't expecting this lens to be as sharp as it is, specially at 240mm, and even then I didn't plan to use this lens as a Bokeh Machine, but that's what I find myself doing from time to time, because even at f/6.3 the out of focus background rendering is beautiful. 240mm is good enough for me an... Versatile lens!

Aug 18, 2017

This lens has given me some great shots, especially in nature! I like the infinite focus, and it's very versatile which is originally why I bought it. It's definitely a bit heavy and can load you down, but that's to be expected with lenses this size. Love it and highly recommend.

Great all around lens!

Aug 2, 2017

Actually great glass. I've been pleased with the quality thus far. Some vignetting at the edge of the focal range (240mm) but 24-240mm is excellent for under $1000. Its not the fastest lens, best used with a lot of light, but very usefull!

Great lens for the range & versatility it offers

Jul 4, 2017

I was reluctant to buy a 10x zoom lens but compared to the G-Master lens i have on the A7Rii this certainly holds its own pretty well. Not in terms of bokeh (my GM lens are f/2.8) obviously but IMO the variable f/3.5-6.3 is the only compromise you need to make in order to enjoy the versatility this lens has to offer. For me, this lens is my go-to when i take a day trip somewhere and i don't want to carry around several large/heavy lens with me. I... Show More

I can use this lens for most shooting situations I encounter. Although it does not have a macro feature, I am able to get as close as 19 from my subject. It also performs well in low-light with no flash.

Great Travel Lens

Jun 20, 2017

Let me preface this review by saying that I am a complete amateur with photography. That being said, I brought this lens with me on a recent trip to Spain and despite me having no clue what I'm doing-- because the equipment was good--I took some really nice photos. I would say the biggest drawback for me would be the weight of the lens. On longer hikes (I actually lugged this thing on a 8 mile hike up some mountains) it can start to feel rather heavy. Other than that, I don't really have any complaints. I thought the pictures I took with it came out quite sharp with good colors.

Good general purpose lense

Jun 3, 2017

I matched this lens to a A7R ii as a general purpose camera. It gives good quality sharp images. The zoom is very tight, as a result it requires a lot of effort to zoom which makes zooming and staying on a moving subject difficult. I can pretty much use this lens for everything so it stays on my camera. The only reason i rated it 4 instead of 5 stars is the difficulty in zooming on moving objects.

better than expected

May 25, 2017

I own several primes (55mm f1.8, 28mm f2.0, 90mm f2.8, 14mm f2.8) which I really love, but also wanted a convenient all-in-one lens when on vacation or going on a trip. I read several bad reviews so I hesitated to buy this one. Bought it at last and boy, this one delivers. Of course it's not as sharp as my 55mm f1.8 @55mm, but the point is: it's sharp enough considering the convenience of having to carry only one lens when going on a trip. Higly recommended. Used with my A7R2.

Revised praise

May 24, 2017

I reviewed this lens previously lavishing much praise on it. I still love it, but subsequent usage reveals this lens to be too soft at maximum extension. IQ is outstanding between 24mm and 240mm. Just avoid the extremes for acceptable sharpness. I tried to upload images demonstrating these different IQs, but the uploader kept timing out. Sorry about that.

Great Buy

May 16, 2017

This is my first Sony Glass purchase. I own a Sony A7sII and I wanted a Full Frame (FE) lens that covered an array of focal lengths. From my experience there is a touch of color fringing at 240 that's easily correctable in post. Also, there is a bit of distortion at the wide end. Pros: - Continuous autofocus (works really well) - Practically every focal length you'll ever use - Solid build - Great image quality - Comes with a lens hood Cons: - We... Show More

Great all around travel lens

May 16, 2017

If you can only take one lens, take this, it is quite versatile, and yes, it may not be a prime, but for a zoom it does well, and give that extra reach, beyond 28-70 (which I also think is a great lens) given my results. downside - this lens is quite heavy. both photos straight out of camera (just cropped).

I would buy this lens again

Mar 23, 2017

I'm very pleased with both the picture and built qualities of this lens. The range is more than adequate and I have to admit that I've only noticed perfectly acceptable vignetting at the outward range of the zoom. With an AR7 II R the f/3.5 is not an issue. What is however is the weight. It is very, very heavy and added to said camera it's a bit of a bear. I'm OK with it for its designated uses but would clearly prefer a more reasonable weight.

My new favorite lens

Mar 3, 2017

I purchased this lens for a recent trip to Hawaii. I planned to do extensive hiking, and I did not want to have to lug around multiple lens. I was reluctant to purchase this lens because I require a critically sharp lens, and simply did not think a 10X zoom lens could deliver the quality I want. To my astonishment, this lens is plenty sharp. It is not quite as sharp as my f1.8 55mm, but I have to compare prints side-by-side to tell the difference... Show More

Great lens! A little heavier than I expected but still lighter and more convenient than carrying multiple lenses when traveling. 24 to 240 mp covers all the range I need and balances well with an A7RII. Very sharp and fast auto focus. Great all around lens.

Quality, wide range lens

Feb 23, 2017

I have had the lens for about 2 weeks and have put it through its paces with my Sony 7RII. The build quality is great with a solid feel and fluid action. I find it to be sharp throughout. The only drawback is its size and weight. However, given the range of this lens for general walkabout and travel photography, I will not need to carry my other lenses.

How many shots have you missed because your lens wasn't long -- or short! -- enough? How many times have you tortured yourself over which zoom to take on your hike -- 24-70mm? 70-200mm? Now I've got one lens to keep on my camera for any moment, any trail, any trip! Is it sharper than your 24-70 or 70-200 in their respective sweet spots? No, but it's plenty sharp enough, and besides, that's missing the point. The point is, this is the ONE lens you... Show More
