Love it

Jun 1, 2014

I took some pics of at a gathering and love the way the subject pops in the pictures. Great shallow depth of field created when aperture is opened up all the way. I love the fact that I also get optical image stabilization. Can't compare to a Zeiss lens, but with change to spare at the end you can't beat its value.

I am a beginning photographer and this was my first lens purchase. It took amazing head shots and close ups that made me feel like it was totally worth it.

Very satisfied

May 22, 2014

I love the portability and size of the NEX6 and this lens is a fine acquisition. The stock zoom was really quite good and offered a nice wide angle for indoor and city shooting. I knew this 35mm lens would limit my wide angle shots but wanted to hone my composition skills with a very sharp normal prime lens. All my work with this lens to date has been a complete vindication of the decision to purchase it. It certainly satisfies the 16Mp of the NE... Show More

Using it with an a6000 - no complaints so far. Works great with dual-mode AF, images are sharp and build quality is solid.

Loving this lens

May 20, 2014

I just finished a shoot in a very dark and challenging environment and was so glad to have this lens on my FS-100. It looked much better than the mostly very good kit zoom. Using it with my ned-7 - the still shots have sensational, gorgeous, lush, vibrant bokeh - the stuff with the DOF is sharp and crisp. I think the lens is a bargain at this price because it can be very favorably compared to lenses costing much more.

Great Lens for the Price!

May 19, 2014

This is a great lens for the price. I use it on my NEX 5T as my everyday lens. It's not too bulky, making it nice carry around and with the f1.8 it's great in almost any situation.

Great all around prime lens

May 18, 2014

I'm very happy with this lens, 35mm with f/1.8 is great for portraits and when a wide angle is needed. Pictures are sharp and color is great. Lens is quick to focus. My walk around lens is the Sony 16-50. Glad I was patient and waited for Sony to offer $ rebate on the 35mm again.

Super sharp

May 14, 2014

Really happy with this lens and the sharpness. If you have a kit lens, you should really invest in this. It's great in low light(I've used it for low light indoor stuff at night, haven't tested night shots yet), and I haven't had issues with blurry focus at all. Nice and light as well, which can feel a little flimsy when you compare it to say a manual lens, but if you have a sony e mount camera you are probably looking for lightness and portability.

Beats an expensive zoom lens

May 13, 2014

Our camera group set up some top digital cameras on the same tripod for a side by side comparison at same f stop, iso, and crop. The Sony 35mm fixed lens clearly delineated a power line 0.5 miles away. A premium (not kit) zoom lens on a full frame camera did not. Not expensive at all when you factor in performance. And I like moving around to the best location to shoot - more thinking, better pictures.

Compact, fast prime with great bokeh

May 13, 2014

I love my NEX 5 and although the kit 18-55mm is adequate, it has significant short comings compared to a good prime lens. I have been getting by quiver of legacy primes and adapters (my favorite Hexanon 40mm 1.8) until this lens came out. The Zeiss 32mm/1.8 is too $$$$$. I demo'ed and was pleased with the Sigma 30mm/2.8 is sharp and a good value, but no image stabilization and not as fast (or having as good a build quality) as this new Sony lens.... Show More

people and pet photography. I own a nikon d800e but wanted a smaller knock around system so I selected the nex 5t from sony. I was so impressed a bought the new a6000 along with this lens. For low light and blurr backgrounds the results are fantastic. I can't say enough about this system. small size and great sharpness. I'm glad to say it looks as good as my nikon stuff. This makes me the toast of the party everyone wants their pics taken by me. Easy to cary and small.

Wonderful lens

May 2, 2014

I had no preconceptions of this lens. However, after taking only a very few photographs with this marvelous glass, I can say I've fallen...hard. Those who say it is too expensive: you're entitled to your opinion, even if you are wrong. This lens *feels* expensive, made of metal, or not (and frankly, the jury is still out on whether or not being metal is a good or a bad thing). The pictures don't lie. This lens is wonderful. Super-sharp lowlight lens!

Feb 24, 2014

I both this for the low f/stop and wanting a prime normal lens for my Sony Nex-6. I'm pretty impressed with the image quality and the f/1.8 aperture. Highly recommend this as a great all-purpose lens and it's been on my camera more than the 16-50 or the 55-210 I also own.

Great lens

Jan 30, 2014

I used to be a point and shoot kinda guy but got tired of blurry photos of my kids. The Prime lens allows me to capture everything in clarity and right in the action. I like that the Prime forces you to move around and be active when trying to get the shot. Not just sitting in a chair from across the yard. I think it's a great lens for those wanting more than a point and shoot but be ready to move around!

Best 35mm prime for APS-C E-mount

Jan 29, 2014

The Sony 35mm 1.8 OSS is the best 35mm prime for the Sony E-mount cropped sensor cameras for several reasons. -First it has image stabilization which is a big plus for handheld lowlight photography -Second it supports the hybrid autofocus system on newer Sony NEX cameras and future Alpha mirrorless cameras. - Third, it is pretty sharp, has great bokeh, very little distortion. The lens is not perfect though. Lateral CA is higher than the 50mm 1.8 ... Show More

This is a really nice walkabout lens

Jan 21, 2014

I received this lens recently, but it will now replace the 18-55 kit zoom as the default lens on my Sony NEX-5r camera. It is a really sharp lens, and a lot of fun to play with (including practicing my manual focus skills). The 35mm focal length is extremely useful on a camera with an APS-C sensor (like the NEX cameras), as it has the same field of view as a 52.5mm on a full frame camera, and is roughly equal to the field of view that your eye ha... A great normal focal length lens for NEX

Jan 13, 2014

This is a fast prime lens - meaning fixed focal length, not zoom. At f/1.8 it is inherently good in low light, and the Optical Stabilization System (OSS) makes it effectively even faster. Due to its compact size it is a good lens for walking around. Yes there are zoom lenses that cover well below and above the focal length of this lens, but they are slower a prime lens all around.

Makes Sense To Buy This Lens...

Aug 14, 2013

Based on lots of very positive customer reviews, and though I tried to convince myself to buy less-expensive aftermarket lens, I finally bit the bullet and spent the bucks. Glad I did. Really sharp, and NO DISTORTION. Excellent results every shot. Hey, I bought the NEX-5 for it's larger sensor (vs. my G12, for example) -- so it would totally negate my NEX decision logic to buy anything but a high-quality lens.
