Great little camera with a BIG HEART!

Mar 23, 2016

BEAUTIFUL, well constructed little camera! First I did not like it too well, but as more I play, more I like it. Really. Fantastic 4K images with a new Sony codecs, will not fill your memory card as fast... I use it mainly for film stuff, where my bigger cameras would not fit. Perfect for run and gun operations, its light and very easy to carry it for a all day shooting. Battery life? Hum, buy more batteries, you will need them, they are inexpens... Show More

AMAZING camera.. except the screen.

Mar 19, 2017

I love absolutely everything about this camera - except the limited articulation of the screen, and the way it darkens when shooting 4K video. I am so used to shoot and framing with out, is is not the end of the world for me. Vlogers..... well, that would be another story. Of all the camera brands I have used, and shooting about 98% video all the time, I have to say that in my opinion, the Sony XAVC S is the sharpest format period. Even at 1080 o... Show More

Great little camera, horrible kit lens

Sep 20, 2016

This is a lovely camera. Compact, yet nice solid feel. Good IQ if used with quality glass. But, like all of Sony's cameras, this has their horrible menu system. OMG, what a horror show. It's a photographic greek tragedy. A camera with so much raw potential, but it gets in its own way. (Actually, this complaint applies to Sony's whole line.) And this 16-50mm lens is really soft. I did some testing, taking pictures with a6300 and my first generatio... Show More

Overheating

Apr 17, 2016

My a6300 (which I've had for 10 days and have only used a handful of times) overheated and shut down today in 80 degree weather, in and out of the sun, shooting single-shot stills, after under 150 shots in about 20 minutes. I am highly disappointed by this development, as I otherwise love the camera and am a big fan of Sony mirrorless. I will be contacting B&H tomorrow to see about returning for either a replacement or a refund. I'm hopeful this ... Show More

Small form factor with decent image quality

Jun 28, 2016

I'm a Canon 5D Mark II user who was looking for a good secondary camera to use at weddings. Its smaller size would also make it ideal for taking along on vacations, I thought. So far, I'm a bit unimpressed with the image quality. It's harder to get a good photo when compared to the 5D. Upgrading the lens is a must. I bought a f/1.8 prime lens for it, and that has helped a lot. Still, it is noisier than the 5D and doesn't have as much dynamic rang... Show More

Great carry-everwhere camera

Sep 11, 2016

I bought this camera after buying a7rii with a 24-70mm GM lens, which is a fantastic camera, but is not something I'm going to take everywhere. This camera shares software and features with the a7rii, so it is a full featured camera and it is easy to switch from one camera to the other. It also shares batteries, flashes, lenses and other accessories with the a7rii. I like this camera more than the Canon Rebel I used to have. It is smaller, more u... Show More

Loving it so far

Dec 14, 2017

I bought this camera for travel so I can leave the DSLR at home unless I'm specifically on assignment. I haven't traveled with it just yet, but I have had it out and about for scenic and farm shots. The quality of images is great. I'm still learning some functions regarding focus, etc, but so far so good. The learning curve is much smaller than some other mirrorless I tested. Regarding service, I did receive a confirmation of purchase and an est... Show More

Decent Camera

Mar 21, 2016

If you are not looking to spend a lot of money and want a decent camera this is the perfect one for you. However, for professional needs this camera just falls short for my use. The jello factor is insane, I mean REALLY bad. The body is so light and really not sturdy, so attaching longer lenses and non Sony E mounts also becomes a little problematic. It does produce a beautiful image if you are on a tripod and the shot is set, but for run and gun... Show More

Not true 4K

Feb 11, 2016

Let's be clear about this. This is NOT 4K. 4K is 4096 x 2160. This camera is UHD (Ultra High Definition), which is 3840 x 2160. Just because it shares the 2160 pixels in height does not make it truly 4K. It's 256 pixels short. Other features of the camera look promising, like 0.5 sec. focusing anywhere on the sensor. However, recording Hr/Min/Sec/Frames is no big trick, and the claim that states: A time code can be used to record hours, minutes, ... Show More

Great for someone new in the hobby

Feb 21, 2018

I'm writing this as someone who's not a pro or even an advanced amateur. I just wanted a camera that can take good pictures without all the hassle and size of a big, heavy DSLR. With this a6300, my wife and I can go on photo trips together and I don't have to mansplain anything to her about using it. I used it at a college basketball game and it focused and exposed quickly enough to get great shots. I also used it on a snowshoeing trip, where it... Show More

A breath of fresh air

Mar 6, 2017

This is an extremely small and extremely powerful camera. I'm still getting to grips with all of its video capabilities (which is the main reason I've bought it for), but my experience with having this camera for about a week has been extremely impressive. Having come from a 5D Mark II, which has a near useless 9-point AF system for stills, the a6300's 425-point system is really a blessing. That, the low light performance (ISO 25.600 is still goo... Dude.

Sep 23, 2016

I've been an enthusiast photographer for years, beginning with the first Rebel. I've always craved a compact camera that takes photos like the big boys. I purchased the a6000 last year, and LOVED it. But now that I'm diving deeper into video, the a6300 was a welcome upgrade, mostly for the MUCH better auto foucs and Slo-Mo. 4k is cool I guess, but I really can't tell the difference vs 1080p when watching my videos on a 60 TV. However, 4k does giv... Show More

4K video is great!

Apr 21, 2016

The HD video is not very good, so I skipped right to the 4K and have been impressed! I mainly shoot video in manual exposure mode outside, lots of action sports. The focus seems to be spot on about 95% of the time and I've not had any issues with rolling shutter using 1/125th and higher. Menu system is overly complicated but you get used to it. Wish I could make my own custom menu. The function buttons and custom buttons help. The buttons are too... Show More

Excelent budget camera

Jun 14, 2016

Some reviewers talk about bad ergonomics on this camera, personally, I think it feels very comfortable and solid for most purposes, image quality is great for an aps-c sensor and EVF works perfect. I haven't notice any overheating, maybe because im very organized with my shots, even in 4K video mode. The only issue I've noticed is the performance of that small battery, but I bought a second one and it gives me enough power to finish my work. Sile... Show More

Love this camera! RAW files produces pleasant noise at higher isos and low light performance is as good as any other DSLR APS-C cameras out there. Included pop-up flash produces pleasant skin tones and it can even tilt up for bounce flash inside rooms. Love focus peaking and zebra for both video and photo work. And the best part is I can use an adapter and use all my Nikon lens on this camera with TTL in A mode. The manual focusing with Nikon len... Show More

I am a very amateur photographer with an interest in dark sky/astrophotography. My daughter has the A6000 and I stepped up to the A6300. She loved the A6000, but it missed a couple of features that I was looking for: 1) Rapid shooting (not for astro); 2) silent mode (no shutter click/sound/vibration). I used the camera on a recent trip to the Grand Canyon. The camera and 16-50mm lens were easy to carry and use. I was quickly able to use... Show More

The perfect stand alone or companion for the Sony a7R II

The Sony a6300 is small, has a very effective built in flash and accepts E mount lenses, including the FE lenses for the a7R II. It is the camera I take when traveling casually. Add the FE 70-300 lense and on the a6300 it acts like a 105-450 35mm equivalent. The 16-50 kit lense is clean, clear and focuses quickly. While the a6300 and 16-50 lense combination doesn't quite fit in a pocket, but it is small enough to take with you wherever you go. An... Show More

Excessively complicated operation with a poor owners manual. Ours has never really worked properly but the mandated repair shop in the U.S. can't / won't fix it. Images with Sony lenses (which feel cheap and flimsy) are not sharp, and the autofocus doesn't work very well.
