Very good sensor in a small package
I use the camera for aerial photography from a drone. The image quality is excellent, and is particularly good for the relatively small size and weight of the camera.

Love this camera. Although it is a bit too small and a6000 is a better size, but I love the XVAC 50MB video resolution.

Great camera with one glaring flaw.
This is a fantastic camera, it has the same APS-C sensor, processor, and auto focus system as the a6000 in a smaller package. You can accomplish some quite amazing photos and and is compact enough to have with you all day. I really enjoy having it with me daily as my walk around, take everywhere camera. Very happy
I have been wanting this camera for a while now and it was a toss up between the 5100 and the 6000. I chose the 5100 because the 180 feature of the display made me very happy. That feature is the best part of the camera and it was well worth the extra money to get the deluxe version with the extra goods. I plan on using this camera as much as I can especially in the summer when the weather is nice out.

Unbelievable camera
I've had many SLRS over the years 20 years and counting this one takes the cake and then there's the video quality that new format that Sony uses looks like 4K video quality to me

Eye Opening
This little camera blows my 70D out of the water. I could not believe the video quality I was getting compared to my full size dSLR. I had to test and check over and over. At ISO3200 the image is 3 times brighter than on the 70D. The XAVCS codec is wonderful and sharp. The ISO noise on this camera is more of a film grain and not the purple mud you get on the Canons. Good IQ but Flawed Interface
Be warned, if you are considering buying this camera as an upgrade from any other previous NEX line camera you will be disapointed. Sony decided to remove the extremely useful quick function menu that could be assigned to the customizable button. Removing this feature is very crippling on this camera because it has very little customizable button. We primarily use this camera for underwater photography but also for routine vacation and casual shots.We simply cannot believe how quick the autofocus is in low light (underwater) situations. Awesome camera!
My 3rd Sony mirrorless camera. Had NEX-F3 then NEX-3N and now the a5100. It's a great upgrade from the 3N. - Autofocus is really fast which is perfect for taking pictures of my toddler - 6 fps for about 20 secs is great - Movies quality is excellent - Has a built-in flash which you can move up so it hits the ceiling instead of your subject If you don't need advanced features (viewfinder, hot show, mic input) you just can't go wrong with it. I highly suggest you buy the Sony 35mm f/1.8 OSS Alpha E-mount Prime Lens to go with it. This is a really great lense.

My first Mirror less !!
The first thing I like the most about it is the size. The only reason I was reluctant to buy a DSLR was the size.Now you have a better than DSLR like camera in a compact size.I am very happy with my purchase, I am still learning the settings and different features and I like the 180 degree tilt-able screen which converts it to a selfie camera.Some times I really wish to have a Viewfinder and I would like to have a dedicated control for selecting the different shooting method instead going to the menu all time. But, altogether it is a brilliant package.

Great Little Camera
This camera is small, light and handy. It takes great pictures and video. It does exactly what it's advertised to do. I use it mainly for handheld video and with a grip it is the ultimate 'run and gun' rig. I had to attach a dslr shotgun mic and a small recorder to get good audio so I wish the a5100 had a microphone input. I don't miss a viewfinder, the screen works fine. Low light is great but video only goes up to ISO 12,600, which isn't that bad. The lens seems sharp.
