A bit too large and missing some key features
The unit works perfectly fine as described, but there are a few issues I believe it has. 1. It does not fit with most cages if you still want a top handle. The unit is so large that theres is basically no room to mount a top handle on your cage without hitting this robust piece. 2. Because its sony proprietary and you cant use it with anything but the specific cameras listed, it is terribly annoying. Why couldnt they have put a line out to connec... Show More

Its just easier
So I own a lot of mics for corporate video from many Zoom products (1,4 and 6) , to wired lavs , to high quality studio mics, as well as rode shot gun on camera This review isnt about quality as Im not really qualified to offer a good opinion. Its about flexibility and convenience for run and gun. I own a Sony A7R2 and to be honest I always felt the Sony ecm2 was expensive But when your run and gunning or doing fast multiple set ups all the other... Show More

Worth It
This XLR adapter is absolutely essential when shooting with Sony Alpha cameras. I bought this for use with my Sony a7s II. There isn't much to it really. You mount it on the hotshoe and you now have two XLR inputs which get recorded directly in camera. You can also monitor the inputs directly by plugging your headphones into your Sony alpha camera headphone jack. The hard manual buttons on this adapter make it a real winner. No buzzing through me... Show More

Perfect match for the Sony CX 900
I have used this adapter with the ECM-XM1 mic and a couple of wireless lavs. I had thought about using a Zoom recorder or some other type of device to get XLR inputs to the CX-900 or to record separate and then sync later. The cost of this is a bit more than the other devices. I am happy to say I feel I made the right choice. It fits snug to the CX-900 and the controls work the way they should. I do not have to make adjustments on the touch scree... Show More

Great Solution
Like many people out there I've been using a variety of Sony cameras to shoot events and corporate jobs. Although I do have an FS7 there many times but it just makes more sense to use an A7SII. To get any kind of workable audio I've either had to use a dual system or send audio into the 3.5 mm Jack which is not ideal. this also has limited me to using one channel of audio if I'm going internal. Enter the xlr-ktm. it is not possible for me to mix ... Show More

BEST DOCU-RUN & GUN AUDIO TOOL for A7S, FS5, FS7
After years of fighting wind & riding levels for broadcast docs this arrives. The days of spending hours fixing or dumping bad audio are over. Painful to pay at first but after using the low cut filters on 2 lavs I was amazed. I accidentally shot for a while in AUTO and cringed it would be full of hiss etc. Nope. 30mph in a boat w no wind noise....perfect. Great audio w little effort if you keep the hot shoe connections CLEAN! Once you find your ... Show More

Almost perfect
It's so simple to use. Just attach it. It keeps the cords tidy and you can avoid cables going into your camera body. Sounds quality is excellent. Plenty of adjustments for manual levels, phantom power. I love it, and there is no real competition that I know of. I do have three small complaints. I wish it had a headphone jack. You can use the camera jack on the a7 but the a6300 does not have one. I wish it had a place to mount a wireless receiver.... Show More

Almost the perfect Fs7 companion.
This Unit accesses the 3rd and 4th audio channels in the Fs7. Note that the 3rd and 4th channels cannot be monotered in the viewfinder. The controls are well laid out, and the unit pops on and off the camera easily. Reading other reviews, I was happy to see that the unit was not as large as I had feared. It does, however, stick up higher than it has to. It could be made to have a lower profile. There is also a mic holder which is useless for the ... Show More

Works but Poorly Made
The device does add two additional audio channels to your FS7, which is pretty cool, and essential in some contexts. I have no complaints about the fact that it does what it says it will do. However, for the price, I was expected much more robust construction. It's made entirely of plastic, with the top part held together with the shoe mount by a 1/8 of an inch of flimsy plastic. Predictably, it broke after 2 days of use. Luckily, BH took care of... Show More

Wish It Wasn't A Kit
This item (the XLR breakout box) itself is a fantastic way to take advantage of the FS7's extra 2 Channels of audio - for a total of four. The only reason I didn't give this 5 stars was because of the mic included in the kit. I found it a wonderful antenna for RF babble and radio. So unfortunate, because the unit itself functions very well. Be prepared to put the mic away in the case and forget about it. I will buy a better shotgun to use with this - and be careful about the diameter of the mic you buy/rent... the circumference of the Sony XLR-K2M mic holder is non-standard.

Must have!!!
If you are serious about your audio and don't want to mess with external recorders, this is a must have for supported Sony cameras!! I use it on my a7s and ax100.. And soon my a6300. When connected the xlr-k2m takes control over the internal audio controls of the camera and gives you manual control of audio.. You can also select auto as well.. Very clean audio! Plastic.. But the unit feels solid.. I used to use the xlr box mounted under the camera.. But that interferred with the operation of my larger lenses.. This works as advertised and i am very glad i have it!!

Good and not so good
The good: It works! It replaces the camera mic input which is also prone to breakage (mine broke). Allows for two XLR mics. Has adjustable input levels and power sources for each input. The not so good: Seems really exposed to breakage from mount. Wish there was an available extension cable to mount it elsewhere. No flexibility to built-in mic mount. Provided Sony mic is not high quality and has non-removable XLR cable. Clamp for mic is not adjustable for other mic diameters. I modified it to fit a Sennheiser mic.

Best audio solution I've seen
If you were deciding which camera to get for video and you care about audio, I'd say switch to Sony just because this XLR-K2M guarantees you get great audio. The microphone is crazy transparent and crystal clear. The gain range is huuge, and this doesn't draw nearly as much power from my little Sony camera as I'd worried it would when I first considered it. The available settings put your (compatible) sony camera sound in the big league, and the build quality is typical pro sony.

Clever -- XLR inputs through hotshoe!
Ingenious design gives me XLR on my Sony A7s. So nice not to have to use H4N external recorder. The mic is good, but doesn't fit snugly in the holder. I wonder if that's by design so it doesn't break if there is any kind of pressure. My only concern is the thing doesn't appear to be exactly a heavy duty build quality, so I knock off one star for that. So glad I'm using the Sony system. They really have thought through the still photo/video convergeance.

Works flawlessly
I used this on a shoot for a Television show using my Sony FS7. The producer wanted 4 XLR inputs. Without a really expensive field mixer this was not possible. But I bought this the day before and it worked perfectly. I ran two wireless Lav's into the camera directly and a boom into channel 1 of the XLR-K2M sending it through the hotshoe into channel three on the FS7. I still had one free channel for whatever else. Great product.

Must have for Run 'N Gun Doc Situations
This product works exactly as advertised. The only downside is that the levels of the additional two channels don't show up on the FS7 unless you go to the status page. That said, I usually have my lavs plugged into the camera's main XLR ports, and just run a shotgun off the XLR-K2M on auto, and I've gotten great results.

Perfect match for my Sony a7sii
When I first purchased the camera I had gotten a rode video mic pro. I finally broke down and purchased this item to no longer use the 3.5 mini plug microphones. The audio is much cleaner now and gives me the ability for a secondary mic which I use a lot.

My producer is unhappy... I had so many problems...
The product doesn't produce a professional sound. Too much noise, white noise, a kind of buzz... It's a big problem. I can't use it. Also when I use an external sound mixer, with a professional soundman. I'm sorry, but I spend $ dollars for nothing.

Perfect Audio Solution
I shoot music gigs with this unit paired with the Sony ECM-MS2 Stereo microphone, together it makes for a tiny professional package. No batteries required! Bullet-proof audio even on the auto-gain setting. Couldn't recommend it more, great job Sony!

Brilliant piece of gear
It gives you 2 channels of audio, and it works on all Sony cameras! It's really useful on an A7s, and it's cool on an FS7 because that gives you 4 channels of audio. I use it all the time. Gone are the days of sketchy dslr audio.

Just order it. You will be very happy
The XLR hot shoe adaptor is a great way to have a small footprint on your camera to receive xlr audio. My only negative is the cost. Sounds great, easy to use. I am glad I stepped up and bought this piece.

Sound Good
I hate bad sounding audio equipment. This actually sounds great. It uses the hot shoe to transfer the audio data instead of the minipin input. Big plus as those inputs never work great on any device.
