Sharp as a monomolecular and as difficult to find
Pros: -Very sharp, as much as the testing says it is -Aperture control ring -De-click function on aperture ring like those on cine lenses -On-lens control button like the one on the Samsung lenses (defaulted to Focus Hold but can be reassigned) -Focus limiter Cons: -Plasticky feeling body (pick up a modern Sigma lens and you will know why) -Expensive (but not overly so like some other GM lenses) As of this writing (early August 2019), the Son... Phenomenal Lens!
I have resisted purchasing an autofocus lens for years, preferring to shoot vintage manual focus glass instead. Having read so many professional and consumer reviews stating how insanely sharp this Sony lens is, I finally decided to dip my toes into the autofocus pool, for my a7Riii. This Sony FE 135mm GM prime is the finest lens I've ever touched, let alone owned...! The sharpness is in fact like no lens I've ever shot before, finer even than m... Show More

Sharp but Dirty, by design
Behold one of the sharpest lenses I have used to date. It is a wonderful portrait lens and is equally fast and happy to shoot sports or create gorgeous video content. Yes it is sharp, thoughtfully designed, ergonomic. BUT BUT BUT, search LensRentals review of dust that gets sucked into it! I found them because I returned my first example of this lens after a shoot (see pics) and noticed dust INSIDE. I couldnt believe it. I purchased another and i... Show More

Fantastic Glass
I research my camera & lens acquisitions extensively. Great glass is the key to great images-that's no secret. Every overall review was positive. The examples were awesome. I also looked at images created with it on Instagram and Flickr with the bodies, a7Riii & a7Riv, that I would use it with. I love to travel. The images produced convinced me this lens was sharp with good contrast, a fast focus system and well built. The only downsides for me w... Show More

Outstanding Lens - one of the sharpest lenses
This is clearly one of the best lenses that Sony makes. It is one of their prime lens. The build quality is excellent and just about the right weight. I used it with Sony A7III. The IQ is outstanding. The autofocus is fast but not blindingly fast. The lens performs well with A7III in low light. The bokeh was beautiful. I did see some aberration at 1.8 but not otherwise. I could get fairly close to shoot some macro shots. Portraiture would be the ... Show More

The best 135 I have owned in over 50 years of photography
I have owned and used 135mm lenses for animal and human portraiture since 1967 when I got a 135mm F2.8 lens for my Pentax. I have used numerous versions since then for Nikon and Sony cameras, and this GM lens is the best of them all. Extremely sharp across the field from F/1.8, like the Zeiss Apo-Sonnar F/2.0 (Nikon mount) and Sigma F/1.8. Excellent focus transitions and bokeh, with a bit better color and contrast than the Sigma. Much better rend... Show More

Best closeup portrait lens ever?
Id say yes! Id love to put this lens head to head with Canons f1.2 85mm mirrorless, but in the meantime, Im enjoying the sharpest, fastest-focusing portrait lens Ive ever used. Is it big? Yes, but it may be smaller than competing lenses, and is much easier to hold than the-sharp-but-Elephant-heavy GMaster 70-200. Eye autofocus on this lens mounted on the Sony a7rIII with latest updateis an addictive joy. Its going to be a step down using any other portrait combo after using this dreamboat for a day. Five stars easily.

Great for Low Light Sports
I shoot high school sports in a rural area in Tennessee - the field lighting is usually subpar. I shoot with an a7riii and bought this lens so I could use an acceptable shutter speed while keeping the ISO low. Tried it out this past Friday and was very pleased with the results. I have a button programmed to switch between full-frame and APS-C modes and can quickly switch between 135mm and 202mm equiv depending on where the play is going. The accompanying photos are typical of my results on Friday.

Team 135 GM
This is my first time shooting with a 135mm prime, I wanted the get the new technology and I sold my 85 GM to get this. I shoot on location mostly; so distance in not a issue for me. I have both buttons on the lens set to continuous eye auto and this is a DREAM LENS to use with the new firmware update to Sony a7 lll. My kit consist of the Zeiss 50 1.4 and now the 135 GM and Im good!!! The size and weight are good for me and the build quality, bokeh sharpness is all that! Just do it!!

Portrait lens
I recently just got the lens in from BH Photo. The lens look like another GM lens. The focus system is fast. Like the 24 f1.4 GM fast. Sharpness is outstanding. I just took the lens out for the first time at Nelson Ghost Town. The image came out wonderful. The focus was fast. Snappy. Zoomed in to insure I had hit focus on the and it was perfect. The color is great. This lens will be in the kit along with the 50,85, and 135.

Beautiful crisp photos
This is a wonderful lens: lens is lightweight, subject is crisp with beautiful bokeh even at a very close range, and I'm looking forward to putting this lens through its paces to see if it lives it up to everything I believed it would before I bought it. Thus far, I think it may exceed those preconceived expectations - I'm thrilled with this lens.

Absolutely love this lens
After switching to Sony one of the lenses I missed most for my Canons was my 135mm f2. This is basically the this lens feels 10 times better that my previous 135mm. The focus is insanely fast G Master glass is extremely sharp and the 11 blade aperture gives better bokeh... I've shot it everywhere from wide open to f16 Love this lens

AMAZING LENS- AS SHARP AS RUTHS CHRIS STEAK KNIFE
This is by far one of the sharpest lenses I have ever owned. The price is pretty high, but you only cry once and after that, the IQ will justify and soothe the financial pain. Bokeh at 1.8 is not fully round, but it doesnt bother me. Check out my IG for sample images. https://instagram.com/smileandseaphotography/

Fastest AF Ive ever seen.
There is a quality and character to the images produced by this lens that is unmatched. Its difficult to describe, but apparent. The autofocus performance is just icing on the cake. Ive used this with both the a9 and a7riv, and the AF blazing my fast on both. And accurate. The lens is worth every penny.

Amazing lens
Have had this lens for about 8 weeks now. Have used it for wire service photography (NBA) as well as portraiture. Used with the Sony A9ii, it's been amazingly sharp, quick to acquire focus, and produces a great bokeh. I've been super satisfied with the purchase and would definitely recommend this lens.

Amazing speed and sharpness!
I haven't used it in a portrait session yet, but I did use it at my daughter's high school football game with my A7iii just to test it and wow! It was focusing on the players eyes while they were running! I know we would all like it to be cheaper but once you use it you'll understand the price!

Sharp and fast
The lens is well designed and great for portraits. I often have to shoot in venues with subdued light and flash not allowed such as rituals, performances and poetry readings. Putting the camera in silent mode and using this lens allows me to stand further back than with a 85 mm lens and shoot.

An absolute game changer.
So I was hesitant to buy this lens at first, because of the price tag on it, but I ASSURE you, this THE sharpest lens I have ever used. I would highly recommend buying this lens if you have the extra funds. After using this, it makes all of the other lenses I use for my A73 feel cheap!

This is the perfect outdoor portrait lens, but you've got to move those feet. Its also great for indoor sports, so long as you have the room to frame your whole subject. This is paired with my A9 and keeps up with the 20 fps. Worth every penny!!

Yep it's pricy, yep it's heavy, but man oh man is it satisfying to put it on the camera and see it work better than expected. Fast. Crazy fast focus. I'm going to love it so much that I'm not going to be able to whine about how heavy it is.

Everything you hear about the incredible sharpness of this lens is true. But what I love about this lens is blazing fast autofocus speed, thanks to its dual, linear focus motors. The 135mm is an amazing short-telephoto sports lens.
