Dwarfs the camera
I bought this to go with my Nex5... this is a very nice lens. The zoom range makes it very versatile... so far I've left the lens on as the main one to use for most shooting situations. I have removed it and put on the stock 18-55mm a few times only because it is a bit big if you don't need the zoom for anything. I am just a hobby photographer so I am tickled to have such a great camera outfit... it's a small system with big capabilities. So far ... Show More

Great lens worth the money
Have used this lens under a variety of lighting conditions. Tack sharp and makes the NEX-5 package a wonderful travel camera system. First class RAW shooting with great optics in a small easy to carry system. Video is beautiful as well. I could use a faster lens but this will do for now.

I am Shocked at How Good this is..
I bought this guy when I first got my FS100, and I was skeptical about buying it, but figured for $600 or whatever it was that it had to at least be decent. I bought it for really no other reason than for when I shoot skiing or other action sports. Let me say right here that this is not a lens that I (or anyone) would/should use in a studio or on a set. I finally got a chance to shoot something besides commercial work and brought it up to Mt Hood... Show More

Disappointment
Pros: Great zoom range.Neg: Heavy. Unbalances the camera big time. What is the point of buying such a compact and neat camera if it is going to be used with such a large beast! More than half of the indoor pictures that I tried taking were worthless due to the lens not being able to focus properly. Constantly hunts for focus indoors. The zoom ring is very hard to move. No smooth zooming at all! Overall, this lens was a big disappointment and was returned .... Five stars to B&H!!

Must have this lens with NEX-5
This lens is really great. The quality of photo is very good and video is excellent. Only thing I don't like above sony is they keep important information in fine print. When using NEX-5 camera with 18-200 lens the photo has shadow in bottom and to avoid this it need flash extender. Hovever, I am thinking ro buy new flash which will avialble in August instead of extender. I would stronly recommend to buy this lens.

Instant professional results
Well as professional as I am likely ever to be. Great for stills, but not great as a video lens only due to the lack of image stabilization. On a tripod...perfect.

Compact!
Despite it being a little darker, you were with the super 35 camera, already helps you a lot for that, you can give high gains and not have grit, great lens, compact, lightweight and pretty pictures!

Incredible lens. The image, ease of use and overall diversity is truly remarkable. I cannot wait to use this lens in different conditions.

Excellent lens!
I bought this lens for a trip and took very good pictures. I am not a professional and I liked the photo quality. It is also very good for making movies. It is a little heavy, but does not compromise ergonomics.

Nice zoom, sorry about the shadow?
The standard 18-55mm lens that comes with SONY NEX is not the best zoom for a camera like that, it makes you very frustrated at some point of use. So you end up having to get the 18-200mm. Expensive, but necessary. The 18-200mm is a very nice and helpful lens, specially when you're looking for more details in your pictures. However, if you use that small flash that also comes with SONY NEX, your photos will be decorated with a giant shadow at the... Show More

Good lens but expensive!
This lens helps the Nex-5 to take good still or video close-up shots of birds without being as heavy or bulky as a 300 mm lens plus SLR camera. Only problem; the Nex-5 has no eyepiece and therefore manual focus can only be done on the screen, and this can be difficult in bright light on the screen or in poor lighting conditions. I would hope Sony could come out with an electronic eyepiece that would reproduce the screen and allow focusing. That's really all that is missing from this camera, but it's a big problem!

I got the lens 2 weeks ago and I love it! Great quality. The resolution is great and the zoom has perfect depth.

Great Product for Still Photography
I have beee using the lens with SONY NEX-5 camera. It grealty extends the shooting range as compared to the kit lens 18-55 and provides with a much better aperture opening in the range close to 55 mm (F/4 instead of F/6.3). It is easy to use and has solid design, although is a little bit heavy, but I did expect that. Silent and steady, it leaves a good impression behind.

almost anything
I've only had the lens for a week, but so far it seems easy to use, even though it's larger than the camera. The camera and lens are so much smaller than traditional SLR cameras, that it's a pleasure to shoot as many pics as I want.

This lens is the Bomb
I use this lens for documenting my missions trips to Ukraine. As we move in and out of vehicles and houses it was difficult to constantly change lenses and keep the dust out of everything. The lens provides superior imaging at both ends, but the auto focus is a bit uncertain at the long end. However, this is not a difficult impediment, and I recommend this lens to all NEX users!

Good Value, Good Performer
Sony's DT 18-200mm lens for NEX surprised me in two ways. First, it was larger than I expected. It resembles a steel travel mug when collapsed. But it's actually quite light! Second, I was surprised at just how good of an optical performer it is. Good sharpness and contrast throughout its range. Corners can be a little soft at 18mm f/3.5, but stopping to f/5.6 usually firms them nicely. Chrommatic aberration is often present at the (wide) frame e... Show More

super zoom, very good quality
I have used this lense to take pictures at my daughters ball game, before i couldn't get close enough to get her expressions. I really like that I didn't need an adaptor (extra cost) that I can use this one instead of the 55 mm lense my camera came with. The price is pretty steep, but compared to every other store it's about $150 less.

BIG but adds quality and versatility
I'm not a professional and have only been in the non-point and shoot game for a short while. PROS -Better quality photos than the kit lens -Much greater versatility of course -Looks nice -Seems like good build quality -Still easy to carry around - I use a Moutainsmith focus II medium bag and it is very compact still. RESERVATIONS -I found the zoom ring to be a tiny bit stiff but not too stiff that it is a major issue. Probably will get a little b... Show More

Awesome lense but heavy!
I really like this lens but do find it heavy to hang around your neck for any long period of time. It is nice to have the flexibility to zoom in or out from the 18-200mm. The lens does have a lock to stop it from accidentally coming out while it hangs around your neck, that is great! The price is pretty high but the picture quality is amazing!!

Only lens you'll need?
I haven't had the lens for long, but from my experience so far this lens is wonderful. The images are sharp, the focusing is quick, what more could one want? The range, 18mm-200mm, covers almost everything you will need. It would be nice if the lens were faster, but that would mean the lens would have to be much heavier. Note that this lens is *not* particularly heavy or bulky for one with this range. Construction is superb, there is no lens cree... Show More

Great lens
Excellent image quality. Not as large as some folks have made it out to be. The only quibble I have with it is its focusing speed, but that's probably more a function of the camera itself than the lens.

Great optically but huge
Quite sharp for the 18-200 range and beautifully made. But it's huge and heavy and makes me think of why I got the NEX5 in the first place... The effective size of the NEX5/18-200 makes me want to grab my A55 mated with the 18-250 instead, where the overall ergonomics feel better... So while its an excellent lens on its own right, I will probably not use it as much as the 18-50 mm ... Then go with my A55 when I have something more serious to do. Maybe I'll change my mind if I get the NEX-VG10!
