Perfect Companion for my SONY a6000

Feb 28, 2015

I purchased this lens right before to Colorado vacation. Used for snow scene, buildings and mountains, interior, and landscape. The lens was completely satisfied for handling and image quality. My favorite lens with full size DSLR is 16-35mm, but I didn't want to carry that heavy lens under 7 degree, heavy snowing weather. But I got all the images I want with this lens. May be a little less image quality if I want to enlarge over 30-40. Otherwise, good enough quality. Overall, it is very nice lens. I love it!

Featherweight champ!

Jan 23, 2017

Nice optics! Image quality is nice... very nice. Great for video/gimbal work. Messing with the zoom doesn't throw off the balance too much at all. Crazy light but built not too bad... but it can be a bit more rugged. When I remove/mount the lens on my new a6500 (bit stiff), I'm afraid that I'm going to crush the barrel of the lens. Don't get me wrong, its not cheaply made but the plastic is a bit on the think side. I wouldn't have mind adding just a little more weight to give the body more rigidity.

Awesome

Apr 19, 2016

I love this lens. It's tack sharp, focuses quickly, has excellent saturation and contrast and minimal chromatic aberrations. The lens is reasonably rectilinear out of the camera and spot on once corrected with the Lightroom profile. I've used it on my A6000s and an A7Rii. Of course on the A7Rii you only get around 18Mp from it since the body recognizes that APS-C format lens and crops accordingly. Being image stabilized you can hand hold it at stupidly long exposures and still get a sharp image!

Wide Angle

Sep 28, 2016

I do a good deal of landscape photography. I thought I would want the widest angle possible so I bought this lens. The verdict is out as I don't know if it was really something I needed. Great piece of glass and an asset to my equipment, but I am not sure that it is the most useful lens I own. I have only had it a couple of weeks, so I'll be sure to check out more when I am on my next shoot at the end of October. I considered returning it, but I think that would have been the real mistake.

Good wide angle zoom

Jan 20, 2018

This is a really good lens for the price. I've been very satisfied with it. It's turned into one of my favorite lenses especially for the price. It's a very compact zoom as well. A lot smaller than full frame zooms in similar ranges, which makes this lens a great companion for an a6000 line camera. A little distortion when throughout the zoom range but not enough to bother me. I enjoy the lens for what it is and that distortion is part of it. It's a very nice wide angle companion lens.

Good performer

Dec 4, 2012

Delivers good sharp images out to near the corners even at F4. OSS works perfect, tried numerous 1/8 and 1/4 sec shots and they are excellent, this is why I prefer in-lens stabilization over in-body. Took off 1 star because its expensive for an F4 and the build is largely plastic, but that also is a plus for travel, because this lens is very light. Its the only contender in this focal length and consider me a very happy customer, just wish the price of admission were a bit lower.

Why not G rated?

Apr 19, 2013

For an ultra wide zoom this lens is relatively compact and lightweight (compared to the full-frame, wide angle zoom on my Alpha 99 which weight more than the NEZ-7 and this lens combined!). Colours are bright and punchy, images are sharp across the frame at f8 and require no distortion correction in Photoshop. This is now my official walkabout lens on my NEX-7. I don't understand why Sony don't give this the G rating that it clearly deserves - it's certainly expensive enough!

Awesome lens for crop sensor!

Nov 6, 2015

I got this lens to use with my A6000 because I have heard & read nothing but good informations about this lens. I have had it for about a month now and it has been mainly using for outings. The images are sharp, color rendering is really really good, bokeh is nice smooth, eye pleasing. I haven't played much in lowlight yet, but it seems to be a keeper for a long time. I'd recommend if you are in the market for a wide angle lens. It's a lens you must have for crop e mount.

Nice lens, but expen$ive

Jan 24, 2013

Aside from the price, the lens seems to have few faults. It's wide enough that I'm going to sell my fisheye and it matches perfectly with my 18-55 and 55-210 for a nice seamless zoom capacity. The OS works well, which makes up for its lack of speed pretty well. It's beautifully made and seems much more solid than the kit lens, as it should be with the amount you pay for it. Produces sharp photos. Coverage is way wider than the NEX-6 flash can manage.

best 12mm- 17mm full frame lens

Apr 15, 2016

Yes Full Frame! For landscape and indoor/caves ect. Should have been my first lens for my Sony A7s. Bought when the price dropped and took for a spin. Yes f/4 but one stop from 2.8 and I had to shoot @ f/4 with two other lenses 12mm fisheye and 14mm that had bad coma that looked like star trails. This lens at 50 sec no trails @ 200x and needle sharp star focusing at less than infinity. No color glow around stars. Great color, very sharp and clear.

Not Quite a Zeiss - but Pretty Good

Jan 4, 2015

This is a great Wide Zoom for an A6000. I bought this for when we wanted to downsize from the A7RI would give it a 5 stars if it weren't for comparison to the Zeiss FE 16-35 on my A7R which is just a killer lensComparing it to the Zeiss FE 16-35 there are a bit more internal reflections going on. Still clean enough to do a decent starburstBuild quality is great and very sharp. I cant see having an A6000 system for landscape without one.

Wide Winner

Dec 4, 2012

Experimenting with ultra wide, this lens offers great transparency and contrast - a must have for the NEX if you love wide and wider. This lens is lightweight!, and fits in the NEX form factor very well; all made possible by the aspherical element design and a short back focus. It is less than half the cost, weight and size of a 21mm Zeiss DIstagon, for example, although slower of course. Pleasantly surprised with it!

A fine addition to visual imagery!

Aug 30, 2015

This is an excellent lens with great sharpness and detail. It exactly what I have been looking for in order to give me a compelling and more inclusive perspective. It is outstanding for my work and far more effective than I anticipated. I am not one to deal extensively with the manufacture of the lens but can say honestly that, so far, it give me the visual rendering that I have been wanting. Nice going Sony!

Great ultra wide angle lens

Dec 14, 2012

I mainly use the lens for landscape and cityscape. It has a nice, modern design and blends very well with my NEX camera. The resolution is great and fall-off at the corners is not noticeable at all. The zoom ring is well balanced and well damped. The manual focus is smooth. Autofocus is fast although the ultra wide angle helps in this department. I haven't found anthing yet that would make me dissatisfied.

The Best !!!

Jun 22, 2013

I use this lens for my NEX 5n & 6. Its very versatile lens from 10mm UWA for landscape/citiscape and inside the house/building to WA for landscape and walk around. Pictures taken with the UWA is less fish-eye distortion compared to the competition. This lens is equivalent to 3 popular format lenses in one e.i. 10mm, 24mm, 28mm. I'll pair it with my NEX 6 when I travel this year.

Solid super-wide zoom

Jun 24, 2017

There are many on-line reviews for this lens already and I will not repeat. I bought it mainly for travel for large scale architecture/building. It is light-weight, constant f/4, sharp, some distortion but can be corrected by LR. Zoom range is not exactly 2X, but adding 2mm (10mm-20mm) does not really make a difference. Overall it is an excellent lens for my intended use model.

Worth every single penny!

Jul 21, 2015

I originally considered this lens on the recommendation of Trey Ratcliff (stuckincustoms.com). He said this was an amazing wide angle lens, boy, was he right. I've had a few weeks to put it through it's paces and I'm completely blown away by this tiny lens that helps me capture HUGE looking shots. The distortion is really low and the rest I can take care of in Lightroom.

exactly as it should be.

Dec 16, 2012

I have seen some complaints about this lens leading to some magenta corners on an NEX7, but I am not finding any issues. This is very sharp from corner to corner even wide open. There is some vignetting wide open, but compared to the Sigma 10-20, it is sharper, with less vignetting, not to mention smaller and lighter and including stabilization! What is not to like.

Best little travel companion!

Apr 2, 2016

I purchase this lens last spring for a trip through central Europe. It stayed on my A6000 the whole time. I also brought along my A7ii and the kit lens that came with it. I was just blown away by the quality of the little guys compared to the full frame big brother. If you shoot landscapes and/or architecture this must be in your bag (strike that) on your camera!

Sony E-mount Wide Angle Lens

Dec 10, 2012

This is a much needed addition in the E-mount Sony lenses. It seems to be of a high quality light weight material. The lens is larger than the kit lens but seems to be lighter and of a higher quality build. The zoom is very smooth and silent. Image quality is excellent. Highly recommended to anyone needing a zoom wide angle lens for their NEX camera.

Lens is a 5 - The filter vignettes

Jun 5, 2018

This lens is a must have for the APSC Alphas! Smooth, quiet, pretty sharp edge to edge and keeps your kit compact! Unfortunately the provided Circular Polarizer Filter Kit is unusable for photos between 12mm-10mm as it vignettes. For video the vignetting is cropped out. Pretty disappointed with B&H's choice of filter provided with this purchase.

Superb ultra wide angle lens

Jan 5, 2016

After taking it on its first outing, I am extremely pleased with the images obtained with this lens. It has a great angle of view without extreme fish-eye lens distortions. It is ideal for cityscapes, landscapes, and architectural photography in tight spaces. Added benefits are relatively small size and weight, sharpness, and accurate focusing.

Top-notch lens for NEX

Sep 21, 2013

This lens matches the angle of view of the Sigma 10-20 that I have used on my Pentax K5 DSLR but is much smaller and lighter, has OSS, and is a bit faster at the long end. It is well built and very sharp. Distortion at the wide end is easily eliminated by the lens profile and Upright tool in Lightroom 5. I will be selling the Sigma 10-20

Great lens - opens up new possibilities.

Aug 28, 2013

If you never had a 10mm,(15mm equiv.), wide angle you'll be shocked at the photo's possibilities that open up for you. This lens presents great color, contrast with decent sharpness. I haven't noticed any color fringing that would bother me. It's such a fun lens to have that I have to force myself NOT to use it because I'm overdoing it.
