GREAT camera

Oct 12, 2014

I just got this a couple of days before our vacation in Colorado and Utah. I needed a great point and shoot to take with me for once in the lifetime pictures. I did my research and for the budget that I had, I chose this make and model. I was not disappointed and took a lot of excellent, detailed shots with this camera. I was happy and highly recommend this camera. On another note, B&H is an excellent company to buy from. Shipping was very fast a... Show More

Superior camera

Oct 3, 2014

This latest Sony Cyber-shot camera is by far, the most technologically advanced and superior camera to other brands I've tried. The Carl Zeis lens lends itself to a professional photographic experience. I have no negatives to say about this camera. This is the fifth Sony camera I have purchased through the years and I have not been disappointed by any of them. I would highly recommend this camera to anyone that would like a fantastic photographic experience.

Zooming out is a problem!

Oct 3, 2014

I love the feel & the image quality but my main reason for this was the video and the problem is when you zoom out od a distance scene and stop the video jumps forward just a bit. I was hoping that it was just a camera thing but it shows up on the video as well. You actually do not have to be in video mode to see this, just zoom out of a distance scene and watch the image jump forward just a bit. It's not a lot but noticeable when viewing a HD video! So in other words when you stop zooming out the video does not.

Amazing all-in-one camera!

Oct 2, 2014

Let me start by saying, if you pixel peep, you will not like this camera, or any other super zoom for that matter. If you enjoy being able to shoot almost anything under the sun without a bag full of gear, you will love this camera. I own a dSLR w/three nice lenses and love it. This camera was purchased solely for the huge zoom, but I have been blown away by its photo quality under so many different lighting extremes, that I can't put it down. Th... Show More

So far, so good.

Sep 29, 2014

I've been using it every day for a week, outdoors, for nature, and especially for wildlife video. It's better than my Canon SX50 in almost every way except color. I do like Canon's color better than Sony's or Panasonic's. I like this Sony's 60p, its relatively quiet, smooth zoom mechanics, and the ability to use a dedicated mic on the hot shoe.I wish the Sony had a fully articulating screen (as the Canon SX50 does) and I find the hard rubber around the viewfinder not glasses-friendly.

Best of HX series

I use mostly for birdwatching and it does a good job. All the annoying things found in the HX300 are gone. Nice new features and a great menu full of options. The IQ is the same, but with improved IS.

EXCELLENT superzoom!

Sep 25, 2014

I was in a market for a superzoom and was considering between Sony hx400v, Canon SX50 (SX60 was not available at the time) and Fujifilm S1. I was concerned about Sony's inability to shoot RAW, but, truth to be told, when camera does already excellent processing - I don't need to tweak images, thus no real need for RAW in my case. Sony does excellent in image processing! I was reading various reviews/comparisons between superzooms and Sony hx400v ... Show More

Great Camera

Sep 2, 2014

At first, I must apologize for an error on my previous review for this camera. I was actually commenting on the A6000 Sony camera. The HX400V is an excellent camera. It is the best non DSLR camera I've owned. I am impressed with the Zeiss lens and the 50X optical zoom. The camera yields crisp, true color realistic pictures. Although in most aspects it is very similar to the HX200 I have, I like it better.

Better than my DSC-HX200V

Aug 9, 2014

Comparing the 400V to my old 200V: PROs The lens cap stays on when I turn on the camera and doesn't pop off as easily - better designed. The menu button is at the bottom and the playback button is in the middle which works better for me. Leaves the movie button better positioned at the top. Menu redesign great. No scrolling. The choice I need stays selected, so I can quickly format the memory card each day without tiresome clicking of the 200V. A... Show More

Absolutely a great camera

Needed a good camera while visiting New York city, suggested to get this Sony dsc hx 400, which the results are amazing. Thank you B&H for being so helpful, especially the salesman at the Sony camera station who put the camera together for me. I was also able to charge my battery there also. Took clear pictures while in nyc.

Exceptional Point and Shoot Camera

Jul 2, 2014

I am a casual photographer, own several cameras and camcorders to shoot on land and underwater. Wildlife is my primary focus. The DSC HV400V is simple to use, delivers superb images and video. This compact camera nearly replaces my Canon 7D with a 150-500 zoom lens with a fraction of the weight. I am thrilled with this camera!

Great Travel Camera

Jun 30, 2014

Most superzooms are small with poor image quality, not so with the Sony. This camera exceeds the others in image quality and produces clear shots from corner to corner. The camera is SLR sized and feels great in your hands. Zoom range is incredible and you always have the right focal length. Sony sensors produce great results and this 20mp sensor looks better than the 12-16 mp of the competition. If you want a vast range of focal lengths, this is... Show More

Great camera!

Jun 25, 2014

Bought this for a field camera at work. We need to take photos of large areas from on the ground as well as aerial photos, so this camera is great since it has both panorama and zoom. we haven't tested the built in GPS yet, but we're hoping it will be a great asset. the photos this camera takes are excellent quality and it's pretty quick. the burst mode is a little hard to work with, but i was also trying it at extreme zoom without a tripod, so i... Simply one great camera!

Jun 17, 2014

I received the camera about a week before spending a few days in the Rocky Mountains of Montana and the Flathead Lake area. It was on-the-job training, but the camera performed very well. We were purchasing a home and took detailed pictures of the house--including plumbing, boiler lines, data cross connects, etc; property-- including gardens with berries and flowers, trees, the lake, etc; and family. Daytime and nightime pictures. Despite myself,... Show More

Jun 3, 2014

Like many, I suppose, I bought this camera for it's reach and to use when I did not want to carry a DSLR and bag full of lenses. In almost all respects, I am happy with it's performance. The one area of disappointment is it's write time. The camera displays Processing after virtually every shot and does this regardless of camera setting or card used. In fact, i bought the most expensive card of my life to try to improve this issue. No luck. When ... Show More

I use the camera for close-ups, far-away shots, pictures of my kids... ok, everything! I loved my last Sony Cyber-shot, and I love this one, too. I don't think there's anything negative about it. It has a lot of awesome features that my last Sony and even my recent Canon camera didn't/don't have. It's super easy to use and takes great shots!
