Its all you need for photo and video !!
Lets make this short and simple.. when it comes to photo it is comparable to nikon d5 and canon 1dx ii but Sony has more detail and at the sweet spot of 24 MP , 20 FPS, excellent AF , and high ISO. On the Video side 1dxii or d5 does not even compare... however a9 is candicapped compared to its own sony 7 series without the s log but other than the s log... its still the best!

Sony has made a great camera!
Very pleased with this camera. I don't appreciate that the Log settings were left out but the ability to shoot video at 4K and 120fps at 1080p is great. For photography, the AF is improved from the a7 series and the silent shutter plus 20fps shooting is pretty unreal. Very fast and responsive. High level, professional clarity. SONY A9 PURCHASE
THE SONY A9 HAS CONSISTENT FOCUS ACCURACY AND SPEED AND THE PHYSICAL LAYOUT IS GREAT.THE FORM AND FUNCTION AND ENGINEERING COMBINE TO MAKE A TRULY GREAT CAMERA.IMAGE QUALITY IS EXCELLENT AND BUILD QUALITY IS EXCEPTIONAL.I HAVE PAIRED WITH SONY 85mm FE f1.8, 55mm fe 1.8. Outstanding Camera!
I am surprised and pleased how much I love A9. I am primarily a landscape photographer using a Sony A7rII or Canon 5DMkIV. The A9 IQ is outstanding. The smaller 24 mp files are a pleasure to work with and the eye focus AF is incredible...it's almost impossible to take a bad photograph of people with this feature. Best Overall Camera
I purchased an a9 to replace an a7RII and I am glad I did! While you don't get the insanely sharp 42 MP resolution that the a7RII provides, the a9 image quality is still very good and high ISO performance is excellent. The best part however is the focusing system. The a9 locks in really fast even in dark situations where my a7RII would struggle. Wouldn't hesitate to buy again!
Like many, I come from a long history of shooting Canon over the years but made the switch to Sony for it's strong base in great quality 4k video. The Next Level
Just used the A9 for the first time to shoot indoor volleyball along with a number of other events. This camera focuses faster and more accurately than anything I've ever used before and I've used a Canon 1DX Mark II. Power and versatility

Sony a9 is an exceptional camera
I was a Canon shooter and then moved to the Nikon system. Was always looking at the mirrorless systems but felt it wasnt ready for professional work. Then I saw the announcement of the a9 and it caught my attention and all the features I was looking for. I am a professional wedding photographer and I ended up pulling the trigger and while it was an expensive switch, I am happy I did. The camera is not for everyone, but it sure fits my needs and I couldnt ask for more. I have it paired with the 50 1.4 and its an amazing combo.

Awesome in low-light
Had an event to shoot. Not expecting the lights to be off, but just the stage lights. Not allowed to use a flash, boosted the ISO up to 6400 and man did these pictures pop. This is my first time using an mirrorless DSLR camera. Sony a9 Sony 24-70 f/2.8

Just lacking the professional finesse
There are many good points for this camera. However in the end I returned it. I was not moved enough with the IQ as to what I have now. Nor was I overly impressed with the Sony 24-70G master zoom. I want native lenses, I do not need AF being off because of a 3rd party lens, or adapters with tolerances that can be off. That's part of the reason you want a mirrorless to avoid intolerances. Great specs, fast and amazing camera
As an Artisan of Imagery I was able to test the a9 a few weeks ago and was blown away by the fast AF, shutter speed and huge buffer. Image quality is top notch, and dynamic range impressive.

Best camera I have ever owned
A long-time Nikon user, I jumped to Sony a few years back and use the A99 and the previous A7r camera. This one, by far, is the best camera I have owned and used. It's lighting fast, includes more options, is more intuitive to use, and feels great in my hands.

So much to enjoy
Coming from Canon, let me list what I like: 1) the evf is fantastic. What you see is what you get 2) the no blackout is addictive. I had the opportunity to use this camera at the Sony Alpha Collective Kando Trip 1.0 a few weeks ago in California. I am a longtime professional shooter having used Canon for the last dozen years or so (along with several others) and became entertained with the Sony system (A7s). Overheating is real, so is the awesome video quality
This review is for the A9 video capabilities. Last year I shot a 2-part special for national broadcast on the A7sII's. We needed a cheap solution for a remote shoot in bad weather and low light. In 2-3 years, no one will be talking about mirrorless cameras. There will be only mirrorless. The Sony A9 just drove the final nail into the DSLR coffin. For a couple of years now I've been shooting with a Leica Q. I love my Q, compact, simple, excellent and distinctive photographs with the fixed 28mm lens. the A-9 is without a doubt cutting edge technology SONY should be commended for their engineering marvel. my use of this equipment is mostly sports and journalism however there are times when the need is more day to day still photography. this product is versatile and will meet the most demanding standards obviously shutter speed is incredible beyond belief, only item left open to the engineers is improving the number of mega pixels. completely recommend this product 2 thumbs up
