I'd buy the a6500 again with one BIG request

Jun 26, 2017

As an a7RII owner, I wanted a second Sony body but with a cropped sensor for my telephoto lenses. I debated as to whether the extra $$ for the a6500 over the a6300 was worth it and eventually decided upon the a6500. Most of my lenses have stabilization so the internal 5-axis stabilization wasn't a strong driver. My Tamron, Sony A and Canon EF lenses work flawlessly with the appropriate adapters. Very fast focusing. A few minor things pushed me tow... Show More

A6500 for Action shots works great!

Dec 14, 2016

I purchased the Sony a6500 for a number of reasons: - I currently own a Sony a7R and four prime lenses. All are FE/C mount lenses, and compatible with the Sony a6500. - I wanted faster focus and faster consecutive shutter releases. I primarily shoot landscape, but am also starting to experiment with animal and street photography. Both of these venues need these two attributes (IMO). I am very pleased with the Sony a6500. Still Great Camera

Nov 13, 2019

Moving from Sony a6000, which produces great images with right lenses, it is a noteworthy upgrade. The 5-axis stabilization being the biggest of them. If you often take handheld pictures in less than perfect light, it definitely helps by providing a few steps of extra room (to reduce low light noise and/or decrease handshake blur). Being moisture resistant (it is not weather sealed!) also helps with pictures in the rain, snow or at the ocean sinc... Show More

Sharp, Fantastic stabilization, significant rolling shutter.

Dec 30, 2016

In most properly shot scenarios the rolling shutter will not be an issue. Though the few instances where you need to quickly pan to a different subject the rolling shutter will be very apparent. It's actually quite a breath of fresh air going into 1080p mode and getting very minimal jello effect. When properly lit and using a very sharp lens (like the new 85mm GM Sony) the super sampled (from 6K) video is simply stunning for a $1400 machine. Matc... Show More

Great camera for the enthusiast...

Jun 19, 2017

The Sony A6500 is a great camera for the enthusiast who wants a small package to tote around, but also retain the ability to connect some great glass for quality images. I'm still learning the features and experimenting with different subjects. I focus mostly on wildlife (birds, fish, and my dogs), landscapes, a little lunar, concert, and some portrait photography. Upgraded from an A6300

I've owned all the versions of the Sony a6*** Line....the A6000, A6300 and now the A6500. Each one was an amazing experience. Computers, cars, TV's.....As time goes by, technology gets better. The A6500 has advantages over the A6300 that may be beneficial to you. If you shoot mostly stills, then the A6300 will be a great choice. Love This Camera

Apr 3, 2017

I upgraded from a Sony A6300 because I wanted the in-camera image stabilization feature of the A6500. Two of my favorite Sigma lenses do not have image stabilization so having it in the camera was worth the expense of upgrading. I have given the A6500 a good test run now and am thrilled with its performance and the additional features of image stabilization, touch screen focusing, and expanded menu options. The A6300 with IS - A Bit Disappointing

Dec 14, 2016

I upgraded from the A6300 to the A6500 for two primary features: in-body image stabilization (IBIS) and a touch-screen facility. I expected the image quality to be nearly identical and it is. The IBIS was worth having for this light little camera, particularly as most of the E lenses (and others) I use do not have optical stabilizers. I cannot yet say it has made a remarkable difference but the difference is noticeable in low-light shooting. The ... Show More

Completely happy to add the Sony Alpha a 6500 to my gear

Without repeating what has already been said in reviews, I agree with the positive remarks. I bought this camera hoping to benefit from rapid focus and in camera stabilization when using a the Tamron 150-600mm F/5-6.3 lens with an adapter to shoot wildlife hand held when necessary. I am very pleased with the results and have dramatically increased my use of this lens. Additional comments I would make as a point of information and not as a disappo... Show More

Improved over the Sony NEX-7

Jan 3, 2017

I have owned the Sony NEX-7 since 2012. I have always been impressed with the quality of the images, lenses and accessories. I am a photographer; I do not use the video on any of my cameras. Inside, without flash, the NEX-7 is slow to lock on focus. With the delay, the sought after image is often lost. I often compare this body to my Canon 5DIII, which is quite a bit faster. Enter the new Sony A bodies. I have held off upgrading because I could n... Show More

The kit was okay. The camera bag was fine for the camera without a lens. I have a large camera backpack which works for the body with a lens. I can use the camera bag for storing my back up drives. I also would have been happier if the battery was a Sony battery rather than after market, but having a backup is very good. I like the camera. No manual focus on 16-50mm lens

Jun 6, 2018

A week in to using the camera, I am quite impressed overall. Purchased as a smaller alternative to lugging around a DSLR, I find the size and images deliver. A couple caveats: 1) the 16-50mm kit lens has no manual focus capability. OK, there is a "mode" to allow some manual fine-tuning of focus, but it's not a replacement for traditional manual focus. To me is a real negative. Notwithstanding good autofocus, there are MANY times that I want to ... Show More
