A must-have lens for Sony full-frame A-mount owners
This lens is my current favorite and will definitely be getting more use than my 2470Z due to its versatility- LIGHT weight, amazing low light ability, the right focal length for most of my photography. The accurate, fast, and silent focusing are great assets. It's image quality is just shy of my 135F18Z, same desirable contrast, colors, and defocus ability. Very sharp and rewarding lens- I've kept it at F1.4 on more than 90% of my shots, and my ... Show More

Zeiss pop and color
The color saturation, contrast, and sharpness are taken to the next level with this lens. Focus was fast and accurate once the MFA was dialed in on my a99ii. On my older a77, it felt like I was using a different camera. Definitely worth the money if you are looking for the best quality in this range.

The Best 50mm prime for the A-mount
The build quality of the lens is outstanding. Colors, contrast and bokeh are excellent. There is some purple fringing at apertures 1.4 to 2.0. But this can be corrected easily in post. The lens is very sharp even at 1.4. The bokeh and colors are better than the E mount 55mm 1.8, although the later is a sharper lens. Overall I would rate this lens closer to the Sony Zeiss 135mm 1.8 in terms of IQ. The 135mm is slightly better in terms of sharpness... Show More

Probably the best normal lens ever made.
I am using this lens on an a99ii, and I am hard pressed to find anything wrong with the pairing. This lens works with the expanded focus points on the camera, and by works I mean works really well no matter what. I have been using it for low light concert photography, and the object and face tracking are getting me keeper after keeper. Faces are almost always in focus, even as the musicians are flying across the stage in the dark. The bokeh is fa... Show More

Amazing
I updated my lower quality 50mm lens to this. I wasn't sure at first if it would be worth the cost... but it's amazing how much better quality it is. Great for portraits. Very crisp pictures

Another Award Winner from Sony!
Another Award Winner from Sony! It seems the insatiable demand for quality prime glass from Sony by dedicated E-mount owners is slowly but surely being satisfied, even as competitors roll out their new offerings at an accelerated pace. For some time there has been an unrequited desire for a normal lens for full-frame bodies that matches the performance realized in the latest G-master series lenses. Simply put, the new 50/1.4 is that lens. I was f... Show More

BOKEH!
Rich colors, super sharp, and the bokeh had me crying tears of joy. That also was not a problem because this thing is weather sealed too! At this price point, you truly get what you pay for. CZ never disappoints!

Very useful
I decided to stop using my multi focal 18-200 lens and go to fixed focal. Surveying my most used lenses on my Leica I decided to go with the 24mm Zeiss and the 50mm Zeiss for my NEX7. I have now used the 50mm at all apertures and am very pleasantly surprised at the sharpness and resolution it gives. Wide open, where I would expect the most problem it is clear and sharp with no vignetting I have seen no drop off in resolution at the periphery. I have to use an adapter, of course, and was initially concerned about this but it is light weight and presents no problem. Very good lens!

Excellent Product
I have been in the imagery business for about 10 years, but I have been focusing almost exclusively on the message/journalistic value of photographs vice the actual taking of pictures. I recently decided to get into photography and wanted to start with the highest quality available.I say that to say I don't have much to compare this lens to. I have not used other manufacturers, and the only other lenses I own are the 24mm Zeiss F2 and the RX10 wi... Show More

I'm very happy with this Lens
I have little to complain about with this Lens, it is very well built, delivers very sharp, contrasty, excellent color results. Expensive: yes. Only complaint is coupled with the LAEA4 on a Sony A7r, and it's a camera issue, that it hunts on auto focus in low light

A Sony Winner
I purchased the Sony/Zeiss 50 mm f/1.4 lens a few weeks ago and have taken numerous pictures under a variety of lighting conditions. In short, this is an excellent lens (for $ bucks, it better be). Images are very sharp with excellent resolution and color saturation. Focusing is by a Super Sonic wave Motor (SSM) in the lens, which operates off the camera's battery via the electrical contacts between the lens and camera (unlike Minolta and some So... Show More

Exceptional Lens
Let me start by saying that this lens is amazing. It's become my standard lens that I keep on my full frame SONY a99. I have the 85MM f/1.4 Zeiss that I use for portraits and love using that so I wanted something I could use to replace my standard 24-70mm f/2.8 Zeiss. I've had the lens for several weeks and had several opportunities to use it. In DC to photograph the Cherry Blossoms, at the light House in Montauk Point on Long Island and for a fe... Show More

Works for me!
I wasn't sure whether to retire my Alpha 900 and move on, or to add a second ZA to my system. I've been using the ZA 135/1,8 for 2-years now without ever removing it, so I have done just about everything one could do with that lens. Anyway, I decided to roll the dice when I ordered this lens and I have no regrets. This lens inspired me to stick with the Alpha mount and forgo the E-mount frenzy. In fact, this lens has resurrected my passion for th... Show More

Great improvement over Minolta/Sony
On my A900, it performs very similarly to the ZA 85/1.4. Fully usable wide open with moderate amount of color fringing as the only weakness. Compared to Minolta/Sony 50/1.4, the newer lens is a better lens in everyway except cost and large size and heavy weight. Compared to Sigma 50/1.4, ZA 50/1.4 is a little bit sharper at 1.4, but the difference is very small. The major advantage for the ZA lens is that the AF accuracy won't change from distance subject to MFD. My Sigma 50/1.4 need a different of 10 in micro adjustment from far away subject to subject at MFD.

Fantastic lens!
Very sharp. Great colors/contrast. The only thing I would have done different to this lens is put the focus hold button on the other side of the lens like the 85mm Zeiss is. It makes it difficult to use the hold button on the side they put it on.

Nailed It
I have been debating for a long time on which zeiss prime I should buy, I have a 50mm macro so I was a little skeptical buying the same focal length, but when this came out I thought twice. Great 50mm
This is a Great 50mm ! Fast AF on a99. Sharp wide open. and most of all Very usable f1.4. because of the Focus Peaking on the EVF (I use Low , and DMF). You know what is locked in the EVF before you shoot. and you see the DOF as you shoot. I love peaking and DMF but with this lens I rarely have to tweak the Focus manually after the AF. By f2.8 it is pretty much sharp across the frame. and f4 as sharp as it gets. But honestly I have not shot this ... Show More

Fast autofocus, though I found out the center point giving most consistent results for autofocus, some of the right side focus point being oof most of the time. Anyway I usually use manual focus and this is excellent with peaking.
