Good lens
I like this lens better than my 50 mm one - it gives me a longer working distance and I'm less apt to scare away butterflies and other insects. Quick, sharp focus.

What a fantastic lens. I would purchase this lens again
This is a lens that only Sony could deliver. I waited to purchase this lens, ordering a competitors lens first because it was advertised as being great, but only a Sony lens is as sharp. I shoot with a Sony a99. So the A mount is great. Again, I am blown away by the quality of the photograph. Superb......

Love it
So far I love it. Have only been able to play with it for a few minutes. Can't wait to have more time and really explore all that it can do

Superb
It is the only lens you will need to cover all your nside needs. It is compact, fast and silent, so you can take it with you in a small pounch, no need to carry other lens. You may use it in automatic mode for great portrait and manual for special effect with shades and shadows.

Very good lens
This is my first Macro lens and I think it is great. Sometimes it takes sometime to focus but the results are outstanding.

a superb addition to your A77 or A99 kit
I use this on both A77 (effective 150mm) and A99 bodies for pro landscape and bird photography and it produces shockingly sharp images. Yes, the autofocus is slow and noisy but it doesn't matter to me because manual focus is so sure and easy (really the best approach to most macros). Light and bright, it is sharper than the Carl Zeiss 24-70mm which is really impressive.

The Best Quality Wise.
The sharpest Macro Lens I have used (compared it to my Canon 100mm F2.8L IS Macro) Surprisingly it is so small and light which is a pleasent surprise once you see the images. On the down side the Autofocus is driven by the camera body and the lens is noisy, slower to focus compared to their other F2.8 Lenses and is over priced.

A new world of photography!
For years I have been wanting a lens for close-up photography. Continually frustrated by the limits of my other cameras and lenses, I decided to invest in the SAL-100M28 Macro lens. Even though I've only begun to practice with it, I can already see results not possible with my other lenses. Because I have had it for such a short time, I cannot give an extensive review. One initial con was the rather sticky action of the focus adjustment. But it b... Show More

Lovely Lens
I have been using it to take pics of flowers and also got a close up portrait of my dog. Quality lens and the pics turned out great. Do make sure to use the focus limiter - makes focusing so much easier. I haven't come across any cons yet.

Beautiful pictures
A bit noisy as it focuses, but beautiful macro shots. Manually focusing hurries this focusing issue along.

Loving it
I haven't had this lense very long but it is well built, very sharp and has lots of potential. I've used it more for portraits so far and they are outstanding. I have done a little macro. I got tired of using a full tripod on macro's and have bought a monopod. When I get it tomorrow, I will start taking some macro's. I can hand hold lots of close up but at 1:1, I really need the pod. I did get some good shots hand held but it is quite clear to me that at least at my age, the monopod will be a big help.

great lens
So far I'm having a lot of fun with this lens. It is very sharp and give true 1:1 macros. It is rather hard to use, but that's just the nature of the beast. I've found that I really need to use a tripod and remote release for the most clarity. Build feels very solid and the weight is nice. Auto focus is slow and rather loud. It would be nice if they did this with SSM. But no complaints here. Just having fun.

As grea as few other 100mm macro on the
This is an old design by Minolta improved by Sony. The lens itself is very smooth, although it does have the typical noise from the screw transmission, not found on the more recent counterparties. Still as in any Macro, SSM motors are not very usefull, and all the quatilies of this breed make this particular lens very attracting.

a close look
a great lens - I only use the manual focus, but the auto-focus has a way to limit itself to either end of the focus range to speed up focus. seems quite sharp

Sharp by Sony
many years ago i had a 100mm macro lens for my Minolta 202 and it was my favorite lens. now i have an a850 Sony and have the 100mm macro lens back...it is already my favorite one...and i have CZ 24-70mm zoom and 70-200mm zoom lenses. i think the fixed focus lens must be better and sharper at least as far as i can tell...i am NJoying the macro part a lot and like going from telephoto to macro...this will be on my camera most of the time. i really like it and it is lighter too.

So far so good
I'm an amature photographer, and plan to use this a lot. So far the weather has prohibited me from trying it out very much, but I'm impressed with what I've tried. I can't wait to use it to its full potential.

I'm really pleased with this lens
I'm very pleased with this purchase so far. I use it for close-ups and macro photography....I was surprised on how sharp and smooth the images appear. The versatility in shooting closeness is outstanding....you can get extremely close, or not, depending on the size and what you want to show of your subject. It leaves you with total freedom!

Delivered what was promised
As I am new to macro photography, I read the reviews about it and after only using it for one weekend, I am absolutely amazed at the sharpness and clarity. I started of with small flowers and the lens recorded spider webs that I could not see with my eyes.

What can I say about this Magical Eye?
This lens, installed on a Minolta Maxxum 7D, allows any shot, from extreme macro closeups to 100MM in virtually all lighting conditions, is the new prize in my collection.

Simply wonderful
This lens makes me proud. It's very sharp, and it focuses quickly and accurately. It's acceptably sharp at f2.8, but at f5.6 through f11 the lens just sings. The construction is robust, and the balance on my A850 is pleasing. I do not regret having paid a little extra for this lens over the aftermarket offerings.

100MM 2.8 Macro is famous for a reason
I realized how many photos of flowers I was trying to take and decided to get this lens. I do not regret that decision. I actually like the focus ring on the sony and the feel of the action in manual mode. On the Sony A700 (and I believe the A100 too) you can set the focus hold button to be Depth of Field preview which is very helpful. There is not much to be done about the sometimes hunting focus because of the lens design, and flowers aren't go... Show More
