Awkward in some ways

This is a fine thing, it works fine and is well made. But there's a couple goofy things about it: In order to charge the battery, you have to put the little pod with the logo on it (left one in the picture) into the charging unit (not shown) which has its own battery in it - you can't charge just the cord part, there's no USB receptacle, just a couple of contacts on the pod. The charging unit itself is a little bigger than both of the pods put to... Show Moregether, so it's awkward to listen to the earbuds while the charger unit is connected. Why would you want to do that? Because by itself, the cord with the pods only gives maybe 5 hours of play time; to extend that, you put on the charger unit which has its own battery. But you are warned not to wear the unit with the charger actually plugged in (lithium battery explosion hazard I guess), so you can't charge it in any way while wearing it, which is kind of dumb. It's nice to be able to have the earbuds plugged in while wearing them, for example for long stints in front of the computer or even in bed. And the micro-USB port on my charger unit was flaky right out of the box; I even had to tweak it a little with teeny pliers to get it to work, and it would certainly not hold up to repeated plugging and unplugging. So I have a little 3 cord that I leave plugged into the unit and do the plugging/unplugging at the other (the USB-A) end. Finally, do your homework before buying the earbuds and this cord separately - some of the earbud models are packaged with this part included for less than the cost of buying separately, or at least you can get the next model up with cord included for the same price as the model you bought plus this cord for an additional $150, which is stupid expensive for this thing anyhow...except you kind of need this piece unless you're, say, a musician using the earbuds on stage and can use the earbuds plugged in all the time. At least I think that price observation may be true based on skimming the B&H site after I bought this separately; I didn't look real close.Show Less
