Great lens, sharpness and build quality!
Absolutely love this lens. Build quality is great, and the focus ring is as smooth as I've ever felt. The AF is also great on this lens. Love it!

A must have for the Sony Alpha 7RIi
Unfortunately, there isn't yet a wide range of lenses for tahe Sony Alpha. The Rii with its exceptional resolutionrequires high quality lenses. This 55mm fits the bill. The quality is fantastic and the lens can be used in most situations. A must have complement to yur investment into the rii.

Absolutely Beautiful
This was the first lens I purchased alongside my new Sony A7ii. If I could use this lens for every shot I would. Simply put, the image quality is amazing. Sharpness is unmatched. The bokeh is gorgeous and smooth. By far my favorite lens.

Not Only Sharp...
I had been using the Sony/Zeiss 16-40 f/4 to take pictures of my grandson for the past year, mostly because of the convenience. I had the 55 f/1.8 and used it primarily for landscape work because it is so sharp. But shooting portraits with this lens on my a6000 was a revelation! Not only sharp, but the colors and the separation from the background are incredible. Although the zoom was pretty good, but difference with this lens is like night and day. Can't say enough good things about it. I'm looking forward to using on my soon-to-be acquired full-frame Sony.

If you want depth of field control, here it is
I was disappointed that there are no FE 1.4 lenses until I used this lens. This lens is tack sharp, fast and accurate. What more could you want in a lense

After six months of heavy use...
...I can easily recommend this lens with no reservations. If you have the $, you won't be disappointed. A perfect size/weight match for my A7ii, this is my most used lens. This is the only Sony FE lens that everybody raves about all the time. Seriously, look around the internet, top reviews everywhere. If you can only have one FE lens, this should be it.

Lives up to name but purely automatic
The image quality of this lens is as everyone else says: fantastic even wide open which is why you would buy one of these lenses. However I do quite a bit of video work as well on the manual focus required for video work is simply too sensitive. For my liking. If you are someone who is going to use face detection or just basic autofocus it is a great great lens but just be aware that the manual focus is going to be very very sensitive and in adequate unless you are going to have time to pose a shot.

Sharpest Lens I ever owned!
Bought this lens to go with my A7 II and I am impressed with sharpness of this lens, I have done some low key portraits and results were phenomenon. The test results on@ also confirms my observation. The build quality is very good and it is very light weight. The Bokeh is beautiful on this lens

Love the lens! A must have, for me anyway!
My first lens for A7Rii and wow, happy as can be with my choice. The Batis will be next! This lens can shoot in any lighting condition. Dark lighting is my new found interest.

Stellar Image Quality, Perfect Size
I 'm very much into street photography and originally the FE 35 1.4 was my go to lens, but it just got to be too large and heavy to be a practical carry around. So I got this lens which is the perfect small size for street photography and compliments the a7Rii nicely. I am in love with the build of the lens and its image quality. This lens appears, to me, much sharper wide open than the 35 which is amazing for its size.

SHARP, SMOOTH, STURDY, SIMPLY THE BEST.
I use this lens mostly for portraits on a Sony A7 and let me tell you, IT IS SO worth the $$. Pros:-crazy sharp-smooth bokeh-very smooth, quiet autofocus-looks Cons:-your friends will be jealous -a bit of chromatic aberration, nothing too bad though

Fast and sharp
I just got a Sony A7Rii and needed a lens capable of handling the resolution of this camera body. I chose a fast prime to really test the camera to the max and I have been delighted. The focus is fast and it is as sharp as any lens I have ever used, the f/1.8 really helps capture low light images and matches the camera performance perfectly. I am very critical of all of my images and the 55mm f/1.8 has exceeded my high expectations. The lens is a little bigger than I had envisioned on the small Sony body but it wakes a great walk-around for low light city shots.

great lens
I bought this lens to use with my Sony A7Rii and found it a great combination. I only have one lens to use with this camera so far. It is sharp enough to crop the photo when I could have used a longer lens.

A lazymans's lens
I used to shoot with zooms (Canon and Sony}. They were pretty heavy. I use this 35mm Sony with a Sony a7r 2, It is really easy to carry around. The resolution that this lens provides allows me to crop down to as much as a 20th (in this range) of the original image and still get really clear shots. This style of shooting is not for everyone, obviously, but since I used to shoot in the 200mm+ range with the Canon 5d 3, I am very satisfied with the ... Show More

Sony a7rii with 55mm f/1.8 ZA For Studio Session
I recently completed a studio session for Erin Brady (2013's Miss USA) and her husband Tony Capasso who are both starring in the ABC reality show Startup U. During the session, I switched over from a medium format camera to a Sony a7rii mounted with a 135mm f/1.8 Carl Zeiss T* and the Sony 55mm 1.8 lens (all purchased from B&H). The 55mm lens was superb with fast focusing, extreme sharpness and the color rendition that was very good. Really happy with it and consider it a must have if you have a full frame Sony E mount camera. Would strongly recommend purchasing it. @

Top Drawer
This is one of the finest lenses I have ever owned in 40 years of photography. Unless you are making larger prints you may not get the full benefit but even so, the excellent aesthetic of this lens with either APSC or full frame is undeniable. I have several very good lenses in this focal length but when I want the highest image quality this is the go to optic.

One of the sharpest lenses out therer
Small, light and sharp. Works well with A7ii gaining features not available on canon adapted lenses (manual focus auto image magnification and much faster focus). Nice Zeiss construction with more metal/plastic ratio than std Sony lenses.

Great Lens
Very sharp, good build quality, all in all a very good lens. Wish the minimum focus distance was a little shorter, but not a big deal.

Dude this thiing is SHARP
This thing is super sharp even at 1.8. Focuses fast and good on my a7r2. Super nice bokeh. Great for portraits. Not so great for macros with the longer minimum focus distance.

Great image quality
Great 50-ish mm lens. It is sharp, relatively lightweight and a great all-around lens for a focal length similar to human visual perspective. Thank you for making this lens for the Sony Full Frame E-mount Cameras! I have an A7R2.

Amazing Lens, Focuses Fast
I'll be honest, at first I wasn't going to get this lens because I have a canon 50mm. This of course being a native e mount for my a7r, I got it anyway. It's great, comes with a nice leather bag/case and a lens hood. The focus on this thing is really faster, except the manual can be strange sometimes. Not really much else to say!
