so happy with my purchase
This lens is the King. I am crazy level impressed. Sharp as a tack in the corners all the way through. This lens becomes the perfect video lens in super35 mode as it becomes about a 24-52mm. The autofocus with photo and video is spectacular and fast.

Use with FS7
I use this with my FS7 to compliment my 28-135 kit lens. Nice image and sharp even at the wide end. Of course, its a full frame lens on a digital cinema sensor camera so its not quite as wide as an APS-C lens, good quality image. F2.8 gives twice as much light at the F4 kit lens. Pricey, but an investment.

All I can say is WOW!
I was reluctant to purchase this lens at first, due to the price point. However, the more research I did the more this lens kept popping up on everyones top 10 list. Not only that, it was almost always listed as #1 for Sony e-mount lenses. Once I used this lens, it all made sense. All I can say is WOW! I wont bore you with the technical details, which you can find in most reviews of the lens. Suffice it to say, this lens will not disappoint. To c... Show More

PHOTOS ALL LOOK LIKE THEY CAME FROM PRIME LENSES
Its been about a year and a half since I started using the 16-35mm 2.8 GM. (gave my 16-35mm f4 zeiss to my daughter) I simply had to write this review. Ive now tested it side to side with the new SONY 24mm 1.4 GM and the images are very similar. Its the ONLY zoom lens that delivers the sharpness and BOKEH you would expect from Prime lenses in the f1.4 & f2 world. Yes its not a throw it in your bag anytime lens. It is fairly big and heavy. BUT, ma... Show More

AMAZING!
I love this lens! Its sharp, the autofocus is lighting fast, it has a great zoom range, and the focus ring is really good for a focus by wire lens.

Miracle of a lens
First of all, its already mind blowing enough that a f/2.8 zoom weighs in at 680g. On top of that, throw in the optical quality of arguably the best wide angle zoom of all time, and what you have is seemingly a miracle of a lens for which a $2200 price tag starts to seem reasonable. The build quality, while it is a plastic shell, seems very good and the plastic itself feels quite premium. Autofocus is silent and fast, and while carrying it aroun... Show More

Absolutely love it
Even though the 24-70GM is the star, the 16-35mm range is underrated. I find that getting those super wide angles really captures the location youre at. This is a superb lens and also smaller than the 24-70.

No Compromises Lens
In the research I did for this lens purchase, pretty much all professional reviewers said that its the best wide-angle zoom available...for Sony or any other brand. And its true. Ive swapped out the lens with others and done my own comparisons for sharpness, clarity, color, pin lights...the lens is amazing and Im glad I paid the extra to know that I have something that isnt going to compromise the amazing sensor of my Sony a7R3.

A7iii with this lens is great!
I initially got my a7iii with the sony 35mm 2.8 and it was great. That lens is phenomenal but I wanted a zoom lens with the same distance and went for the 16-35 and im extremely happy i did. i mainly use my camera for vlogs and skits or just story telling and this lens does the job with amazing quality. quick story when I unboxed it, I was in a car at night driving home and my first impression was that I was going to have to raise my iso becaus... Worth it.
The only con, and it's a big one, is price. Image quality, autofocus, and build quality are unmatched. If it were $500 less, it would be the greatest lens for Sony full frame cameras. I love it for video and photos.

Fast and Sharp
Not the lightest and most compact but definitely very sharp and fast. Focus is lightning quick and produces great results in Photo and Video. My go to lens.

Good not great
It's easy to take good pictures with this lens. The weight is difficult to manage on a stabilizer and the lens moves forward/backward when you zoom in/out. The focus controls are nice. In manual mode, it does not register much detail in human subjects (face and skin) or animals. I shoot close up shots in nature-walk type environments. This thing is great for wide angle. With a circular polarizer (Sony/Zeiss 82mm) it's unbeatable. It's never been able to show focus peaking on an animal with fur

Landscapes is where it's at.
I've been using this lens for about 7 months. Finally had a chance to test it out on some landscape and I wasn't disappointed. At 35mm it's a great everyday lens. At 16mm, corner to corner sharpness is very good. I don't feel I need to crop much like other wide angle lenses I have owned. I agree It's expensive but it's hard to beat the performance.

Excellent for Landscape
Bought this right before a trip overseas, and could not be happier with it. Excellent for landscape photos, and any wide lense needs. Looks better in the captured photos than through the viewfinder. Very sharp and fast, and was surprisingly smaller in physical size than I expected. Love jumping to 35mm when I don't need the super wide perspective, which makes it great for travel.

Worth its Weight
I had this lens for about 6 months now. Initially it feel very heavy when fitted with my Sony a7ii. I tested it in taking city-scapes and am pleased with the result, especially on its sharpness all the way to the edge. Recently I lugged it with me on a long hiking trips. l took lots of panoramic photos on mountain massif, down wide and low on rocks and rivers, wide open night sky and even snap shots of people (on 35mm). When those photos were loa... Show More

Simply amazing
I am using the lens already 1 year, mounted to my A7R3 and I can say that this is the most impressive lens a have ever used. Very sharp, fast focusing, great colors. Its an amazing prime lens, great for landscapes, but you might use it also for portraits on 35mm F2.8. Am so pleased that I chose this one instead of the F4 lens.

WOW !
I'm a real estate photographer so I use wide angle lenses. I have the Sony 12-24mm f/4 lens, while it produces good images, they are not great. I've tried the Sony FE 16-35mm f/4 ZA OSS lens but at the widths I shoot the 16-35 was no better than the 12-24mm lens. So, on a whim and relying on great B&H Photo's return policy I ordered the Sony FE 16-35mm f/2.8 GM lens. WOW! What a difference. The images produced are sharp, great contrast and t... Show More

Sharp
This is a great lens. It's sharp. It's wide. It's sharp and wide. I have the 85mm 1.4 GM and this covers the other end of the focal length range perfectly. At the 35mm it's great for candids et al. Very content with the everything.

Sharp and contrasty enough I could part with some primes
I got an exceptional copy of this lens. Very sharp and great contrast corner to corner. Performance was good enough that I sold some primes as I don't see taking this zoom off the camera for this focal length range

Such a great wide zoom!
I went back and forth between this lens and the less expensive f4 zoom and have to say, I couldn't be happier with this purchase. It feels great on my a7iii and the pictures are outstanding! I am just getting into Astro photography and this lens is perfect for that! I am not a pro but believe I will be able to grow and learn a ton with this lens for many years to come...its expensive but if you can afford it...I highly recommend!

A Real Gem
The Sony 16-35 f2.8 GM is just a real gem in the Sony lineup. Balances nicely on the A7R3, while producing very sharp photos! Great for street, astro, architectural, or landscape work... And when paired with the GM 24-70 f2.8, they make an unbeatable zoom combo!
