It is worth every penny

If you want a zoom lens that is sharp with snappy autofocus that has quality written all over it. Look no further... You just can't go wrong with this lens. I currently carry this lens with me for street and wedding photography/ videography and I am honestly in love with the image quality that comes out of this beast. There are two things that actually worried me before purchasing: 1. No OSS / 2. Weight. All I have to say is, there was no need for me to worry. This lens works perfectly smooth on my DJI Ronin S.

Good not great

Sep 10, 2018

It's easy to take good pictures with this lens. The weight is difficult to manage on a stabilizer and the lens moves forward/backward when you zoom in/out. The focus controls are nice. In manual mode, it does not register much detail in human subjects (face and skin) or animals. I shoot close up shots in nature-walk type environments. This thing is great for wide angle. With a circular polarizer (Sony/Zeiss 82mm) it's unbeatable. It's never been able to show focus peaking on an animal with fur

Great Lens

Sep 19, 2017

I've had the lens for a few weeks now. Been running it through its paces. Shot a few events (with very difficult lighting) and some landscape. The lens performed perfectly. Just one advise, if you're going to put a UV filter on this, make sure to buy top quality. I bought a medium grade Hoya for it, that cost me over $100, and I find that with the filter on, I get WAY more flares when shooting sunrise and sunsets. Without the filter, I don't see any, even when I try to make it happen.

Great contrast, super sharp

Mar 12, 2020

Great lens. Very sharp and contrasty. Not hugely different than other brands except that Sony makes the sharpest lenses. No Optical image stabilization though and for such an expensive lens it would have been nice. I prefer internal zoom as opposed to ones like this where it extends when you zoom in and out. I believe Canon makes an internal zoom 15-35 but then again their 70-200 is external. Regardless, it is hard to argue with the IQ and final results. They are amazing

Such a great wide zoom!

Jul 23, 2018

I went back and forth between this lens and the less expensive f4 zoom and have to say, I couldn't be happier with this purchase. It feels great on my a7iii and the pictures are outstanding! I am just getting into Astro photography and this lens is perfect for that! I am not a pro but believe I will be able to grow and learn a ton with this lens for many years to come...its expensive but if you can afford it...I highly recommend!

No Compromises Lens

Nov 6, 2018

In the research I did for this lens purchase, pretty much all professional reviewers said that its the best wide-angle zoom available...for Sony or any other brand. And its true. Ive swapped out the lens with others and done my own comparisons for sharpness, clarity, color, pin lights...the lens is amazing and Im glad I paid the extra to know that I have something that isnt going to compromise the amazing sensor of my Sony a7R3.

If you are buying this lens, you should already know its use

Jun 12, 2019

I have recently watched a video on youtube about why this lens was not a good buy, but if you have a need for a multi-purpose lens and you need it to be brighter than 4.0, then this lens is for you. I have owned the G Master 24-70 for a while now and I have been very happy with it. I can't say the price is not very steep but it is. If the world was perfect, I would love it if the 18-105 was full frame and 1.8 but is not.

Amazing Glass

Jan 3, 2018

This is the lens I chose to pair with my new A7RIII. It is amazing! Took it with me to Horshoebend, Death Valley, Brian's Head and it is tack sharp throughout the aperture range. Also took some pictures of the night sky and that wide angle at f2.8 is just woooow! Highly recommend this lens if you like shooting in this focal range. Just need an 85mm and my two lens kit would be complete.

Excellent for Landscape

Sep 4, 2018

Bought this right before a trip overseas, and could not be happier with it. Excellent for landscape photos, and any wide lense needs. Looks better in the captured photos than through the viewfinder. Very sharp and fast, and was surprisingly smaller in physical size than I expected. Love jumping to 35mm when I don't need the super wide perspective, which makes it great for travel.

Great Lens

Oct 16, 2017

Used the lens for the first time today during one of my real estate shoots. Loved everything about it. I can't wait to use it during some of my upcoming weddings. I know it's expensive, but it really is worth having. I had the 12-24 previously, that is an ok lens as well, but I just liked the 16-35 better overall. I actually think the price jump is worth it.

Landscapes is where it's at.

Sep 8, 2018

I've been using this lens for about 7 months. Finally had a chance to test it out on some landscape and I wasn't disappointed. At 35mm it's a great everyday lens. At 16mm, corner to corner sharpness is very good. I don't feel I need to crop much like other wide angle lenses I have owned. I agree It's expensive but it's hard to beat the performance.

5 Stars -Great Lens for Real Estate Photography

Mar 10, 2019

I love the lens. I use it for real estate photography along with the 12-24mm. I bought this for outside shots so I can use a polarizingfilter. When it comes to photography it is amazing. However, when this lens is on a gimbal and no face is in the frame it hunts for focus way more than the 12-24mm. It is not horrible, but it is a little annoying.

Most amazing lens

Jan 29, 2018

I took the Sony 16-35 f/2.8, 24-70 f/2.8, and the 70-200 f/2.8 to Hawaii in August (all rented) and almost never took the 16-35 off my a9. For what I do, adventure/travel with my family, it was incredible: fast focus, ultra sharp edge to edge, kept up with he a9s tremendous focusing speed and accuracy. So I bought one. Best lens Ive owned yet.

Holy Cow

Aug 18, 2017

I Shoot with the A7Rll the Image quality is absolutely amazing never expected a wide angle zoom to be this good. I also have the 24-70F2.8GM but this lens blew me away if you don't already own it you should it's that good. Here are some sample photos to demonstrate the amount of cropping you're able to do. shot at 35mm F2.8 1/60 ISO400

Simply amazing

Aug 28, 2018

I am using the lens already 1 year, mounted to my A7R3 and I can say that this is the most impressive lens a have ever used. Very sharp, fast focusing, great colors. Its an amazing prime lens, great for landscapes, but you might use it also for portraits on 35mm F2.8. Am so pleased that I chose this one instead of the F4 lens.

Top quality lens from Sony

Dec 3, 2017

I was reluctant to spend the money on this wide zoom for my A7Rii, but have no regrets now. It is expensive, but if you need a high quality wide zoom to take advantage of the A7Rii resolution, this is a great lens. I also own the 24-70 f2.8 GM and I honestly think this 16-35 is even sharper than the 24. Great lens.

Use with FS7

Feb 11, 2019

I use this with my FS7 to compliment my 28-135 kit lens. Nice image and sharp even at the wide end. Of course, its a full frame lens on a digital cinema sensor camera so its not quite as wide as an APS-C lens, good quality image. F2.8 gives twice as much light at the F4 kit lens. Pricey, but an investment.

As good as it gets

Sep 29, 2019

Yes its expensive, but if image quality is important to you then this is the best there is for the Sony e-mount system. No regrets for spending the extra to get the g-master and for the shooting I do (sports, outdoors, adventure etc) the f2.8 comes in very useful over the f4 lens option.

Must have travel lens

Apr 2, 2019

This is perfect travel lens if you like to take photos of buildings, architectures, and some wide shots at 24 mm with portraits at 35 mm. Great camera. Add this with either Sony 50 mm f 1.8 or Sony 85 mm f 1.8 you will be pleased. Needless to say about its performance and build quality.

16-35mm f2.8 GM is worth the money

Feb 17, 2019

I traded up from the Sony Zeiss 16-35mm f4 which is a good lens. I wanted the f2.8 and the better edge performance for astrophotography. I also have the 24-70mm f2.8, the 24mm f1.4 and the 100-400mm. The GMs are pricey but I really like using them with the a7riii.

Sharpest Lens I Own

Oct 28, 2019

I shoot with mostly Cinema Prime lenses, but needed a lens I could quickly change focal length. This lens is actually sharper than similar prime lenses. It's also a lot lighter than a prime (Zeiss CP). Excellent light transmission (equal to T2.9).
