Excellent lens
We have a very small shooting studio. It's difficult to achieve any depth of field with our VG30. This lens does the trick.

Crisp lowlight details
I use this on my NEX-7 when I want to take portraits, get shallow depth of field or shoot in low light. The is a good portrait lens at an affordable price. So far this is the best Sony E mount lens I have used.

Magnificant Focal Quality
Recently purchased two of the Sony NEX VG20 digital video cameras and although the kit lenses are impressive in their own right, the need for a static prime lense was in order. Enter the the 50mm 1.8 lens from Sony. Having an fstop as wide open as this lens provides is awesome for those elegant cinematic shots as well as great in low light. If you buy the Sony VG20 or VG30, make sure to add this 50mm lens to you set up.

Great low light lens for NEX-5
I've read other comments this lens is soft wide open but I only use manual focus on my NEX-5 and I find it very sharp and the bokeh is awesome. This lens is great for low light portraits, again, using manual focus..The OSS works great and makes this a best buy in book.

Stunning
This lens is stunning. Very sharp with beautiful bokeh. (It does not get better than this.) And stabilised too! I use it for portrait and street photography and for video in low light. The only negative is that autofocus can be slow in very poor light. (with a NEX5, later models may be better)

Meh
Lens is sharp and fast enough and the VR is great. The reason I'm giving it three stars is the speed of the auto focus. Too slow. And if its starts hunting, forget about it!!!

Great lens
Only use this now! Large, fast aperture and great bokeh! Can really take some pro looking shots with this lens! The 75mm equiv takes a little getting used to but after a day it's no problem! Highly recommend to any nex user

My favorite lens so far
I love doing street photo and this lens is the one to own. With my pancake for landscape shots, I don't need the 18-55mm anymore.

Quality Lens
Sharp image. Wide open it is a bit soft in the corners but overall shows off my nex7.Solid build.IS works.Sometimes focus is an issue - focus is not on my target - on something else that is close.Not perfect but a good lens at a good price.

Love this lens with my VG20
Used this along with the VG20 on several interviews and so far I'm very happy. Communicates with the impressive VG20 with no issues. Really sweet Bokeh! No complaints but give it 4 stars because the auto focus is a just a wee bit slow but it does work when needed. I expected it to quickly snap into focus when target is center framed + why do you have to keep turning the focus ring around and around is beyond me when focusing. Can't expect too much for the price. Thanks BH :-)

Makes the Nex-7 shine
Use this lens almost exclusively for now. Bought Nex-7 with kit lens but found too much noise in low light and in darker ares of most shots. With this lens I now have shots worthy of blow ups and framing. Great for portraits and pretty much everything.

Surprizingly Good
I bought this for my fs700, not expecting much, but the lens is actually not too bad. My only problem is the focus ring keeps spinning as apposed to a proper lens, But otherwise, not too bad.

Best lens for the money
I use it for details and portraits. Only had it for about a month.. the more I use it the more I like it. Works great, very sharp and minimum distortion.

AMAZING LENS
I absolutely am blow away at the images I get from this lens. I have 2 VG10's and a VG20 and they with this lens makes great cinematic video. The depth of field is just incredible. Worth every penny and I just ordered a second one!

I had been waiting for this lens for quite some time. I've owned it now for maybe a month and am very impressed. I use it on my Sony NEX FS100. Great build quality, very sharp, wonderfull bokeh and very solid feel.

not good enough
this lens is good enough for static people portrait photos. I disagree with some of the reviews about sharpness of this lens. It is NOT sharp when shooting wide open at f1.8! The main problem is that focus speed is very slow compare to other e-mount lens and it tends to near focus on my nex 5n.

bright lens
I use this with my Sony VG20. A nice and bright lens, easy to do manual focus with the large focus ring. The shallow depth of view really make a difference for dramatic effects. Also nice to be used in low light condition.

A must have for the NEX E-mount system!
After a sour experience with the Sigma 30mm f/2.8 lens, I returned it and purchased this Sony 50mm f/1.8 lens. As expected the field of view is a bit tighter, being in the early telephoto range. With that said it is still very usable indoors as a slightly long, normal lens. Great Image quality but slow AF.
Used it on my Sony Nex 5N. Great image quality. At f1.8 is a little soft, but much better at f2.8 and beyond. Just wish that the auto-focus system was faster. The NEX E-mount 18-55mm is faster, but the quality of the 50mm f1.8 is sooo much better. The 50mm f1.8lens is on my NEX-5N 90% of the time. It's a must have for Sony NEX user.

Nice Lens
I just took this lens on vacation to the East coast (Boston/New York). I found the results of the lens fantastic, with great contrast and great bokeh. The 50mm fov is tricky, particularly if using it as a walk around lens. I found I had to switch lenses more than I would have liked. A must own lens if you have a NEX.

It's been worth the wait
This lens is fast and has great image quality. And the price is reasonable. I hope that someone comes out with a high quality F1.8 e-mount lens in the same price range as the 50mm.

Very Impressive!
I bought this lens to use with my NEX-5n and was impressed from the start. This lens will generate excelent bokeh on cose-up's and portraits, and is also as good for ladscapes. My favorite use is for my daughter and cats.
