What a great lens. Beyond expectations
I did not know what to expect from this lens. But the initial performance shows it goes beyond my expectations. Highly recommend.

Freaking Awesome Lens!
I've gone back and forth on getting this lens over the past couple of years and finally got it and I'm super happy with it. I'm a bit more into video than photography and for video I love it. Since I got it it's been the only lens I've been using. In addition to being a great overall lens during the day it's also wickedly great in low light! I just with Sony would make a whole line of these lens in more focal lengths.

fantastic slow manual focus
I don't have the luxury to switch a few prime lenses, this has 95% of the focal length I need... and most important to me was slow smooth focus pulls... modern focus by wire still camera lenses just don't do it... Also the step-less aperture ring is nice to be able to gradually adjust exposure ... so happy with this lens... probably shouldn't mention here :) but since it's been out a few years you can pick up a mint condition one for under $1,700

A unique lens
my main purpose for buying this lens was to attempt to emulate a camcorder servo zoom type of thing. on my A7III you basically get a 4.8x zoom. using Clear Image Zoom end up with a potential 9.6x zoom. so 10x is not extreme zoom but would have been good enough for me as my old DVX100 from years ago was only a 10x. i also bought the Sony VCTVPR1w/remote zoom handle. first ill say that the lens by itself is pretty sweet! optically i say its very go... So far so good
Havent finished testing but so far so good. Very sharp videos but I dont have any 4k monitors yet to see them on, just using HD now, even stills look great. Love the smooth zoom and I got a Sony RM-VPR1 remote but the remotes zoom isnt as linear or smooth as the lenss and its kind of a weak clamp. Might get the RM1BP but its a LANC remote so not sure how that will work with the adapter and its expensive. Wish Sony would make a good remote thats as good as the zoom in this lens

Good camera - Horrible Viewfinder
The camera works quite well, but the viewfinder came loose on the 1st day of its first job. The clam that holds the viewfinder to the rod came loose. 2 issues: 1 - It's not a thumb screw so you'll need a tool to loosen it (Nice for being on set with producer staring at you) and 2: The screw STRIPPED straight away (See photo) I've come to expect more from Sony than this. Now I get to do the runaround with BH where they will most likely force me to... Show More

Love that this lens exists, though I have some minor gripes
Great for sony's full sensor cameras, though awkward for hand-held shooting cause of it's weight. Lacking on the wide end of the zoom if using it on a smaller sensor cam. It's great to have a full-range cine lens with a focus ring that can be fully manual or AF (by sliding the ring forward or back) in this price range. Riding focus when in full-manual is a dream. The zoom is pretty laggy, which I don't love but I sorta got used to. Still it's eas... Show More

flare issue
I shot the same scene side-by-side with this lens on an FS7, and the permanent lens on an EX1R. Both wore their factory lens hoods. The EX1R image was clean, but the 28-135mm f/4 picked up a huge flare from a backlight. Afterit wasflagged off, this lens performed well.

Very Good Camera
I came from a C100 mark 2 (still like Canon Cine cameras) and the Sony is really impressive. I will say there is some learning curve and some very deep menus to master. It's worth it though. Many choices on configuration. I guess their were complaints before the latest firmware upgrades, but in my experience has been it's a very solid and stable camera. I use it with the kit zoom lens, Veydra primes and Canon lenses with metabones adapter - all w... Show More

Fantastic Camera. Amazing price point!
Other reviewers have said it all. Just wanted to add my voice here. This camera is amazing! But there is a little gem out there for those who shoot SLog3 like I do. A German videographer took the time to match his FS7 with his Arri Amira and create LUTs matching the two. This is the single most valuable thing I've purchased for this camera. Look up Bertdegraeve and purchase those LUTs. NOW!!! He has even made LUTs for +1, +2, and +3 exposure (I t... Show More

I really like it sometimes, but not most. Go figure.
I bought this for my FS700, intrigued by the parfocal zoom for this price. This is the most expensive lens I have ever purchased, and I know about the tradeoffs with zooms. I did not buy the other Sony G lens (wider but not as tele) due to the fact that it is only for APS-C, and I have ideas of getting whatever the newer A7S/R is ... full frame future, thanks. I feel it is cool, has a lovely blur, but has a few things I don't like. For its size, ... Show More

Dude, Im amazed with this camera!
This camera does everything, the image quality is beautiful, i love shooting on Slog 2 and Slog 3. Slow motion is stunning. I have an FS7 mark 2 as well, and let me tell you something: the improvements were just all right, now with these two cameras I feel I can conquer the world... at least with these range of prices.

Great All in One Camera (Doc & Narrative)
We purchased this camera early this year and I have got to say I love it. We make documentaries and need to be comfortable shooting all day; which this camera solves. It also allows us to make more commercial narrative content without much of a trade off. We were using all Canons (C100, C300) before; but I'm loving this. I do like the Canon sensor and colors better; but the ergonomics of this camera are worth the trade off. The Sony Codec is a bi... Show More

Wonderful lens
Use this lens with the original A7S, Atomos Shogun and zoom controller by Fotga and it always amazes me each time I see the final videos. 4K video is very sharp and the slow steady zooms are amazing.

Sony hits the bullseye
Last year, this was the camera I was waiting for, and it was well worth the wait. PROS: good ergonomics and balance with the XDCA unit and an Anton Bauer style battery. Great multifunctional handgrip. And a user friendly cinema mode that shoots excellent 10 bit SLog3. It's a nice image to grade, but looks good out of the box. CONS: it shipped with a bit of a weak lens mount and a few early software bugs - nothing dangerous, merely annoying - when... Show More

Great Camera
I've had this Camera for a little over a week now and I'm loving it. I moved up from using a 5d Mkiii primarily and can say that it wasn't as difficult as I was imagining. I have used plenty of other higher end cameras before so that also helped. I've been doing a lot of location shooting as well as interview setups and some creative projects on the side. I've been shooting indoors and outdoors and love the versatility of this camera. The built i... Show More

Makes the A7SII great for run and gun work
Previously was relying on the Canon 24-105mm with metabones adapter for run and gun work but started having issues with losing control of the aperture in the middle of a shot and then there's the issue of light loss at the tele end. I decided to give this a try and it's worth it so far. I appreciate the extra throw on the long end and having the step-less iris is great for adjusting in the middle of a shot. Best camera for the money
I've been in the video production business for over 35 years producing videos for corporations, broadcast and non-profits. I started with Betacam SP cameras and have owned 8 different cameras since 1980, including a $ 60,000 broadcast HD camera. The FS7 beats them all and is in a class by itself. The quality of the image is outstanding. Coupled with the correct lens this camera creates image quality that is undistinguishable from an ARRI Alexa. A... Show More
