Does everything I needed

Apr 29, 2016

I'm a professional who shoots and edits everything from corporate videos and stock footage to music videos and short films. Most of my clients still just want 1080pHD deliverables, so the 8-bit rmax recording isn't too much of a handicap, especially since the price of this unit makes it possible for me to lower my equipment charge to clients (rather than the rental charge on a similar camera). The 4K acquisition is allowing me to create fantastic... Show More

Excellent camera, amazing price

Apr 18, 2016

Using this camera for corporate videos. Great to achieve the shallow depth of field on the sensor and it offers a great cinematic image. There were some reviews out there that said it looks video-like but they likely didn't know how to use it well. It turns out a great cinematic image that is super crisp in detail and just great to look at. Low-light is pretty good on this. It's much better than I thought it would be coming from Canon DSLRs. It i... Show More

Great deal!

Mar 8, 2016

Feels cheap but who cares. The Super35 sensor and VSM make this camera very versatile and thousands of dollars cheaper than anything comparable from Sony or Panny.

As advertised

Mar 1, 2016

I would have given it 5 stars but for the small viewfinder and inadequate EVF. Also do not expect ANYONE from JVC to ever answer a question, answer a call or call you back! That being said. Very cool tech in a tiny package. 4k 8 bit 422 internal .mov recording. cinema 4k, cinema 2k, HD all 422 8 bit internal .mov. Also can stream, record multiple formats and prodides SDI plus HD out. But the big thing is the variable scan maping of the sensor. Ve... Show More

Very Nice Picture

Feb 25, 2016

I used this camera for community theater. I recently tested it with a variety of lenses from a B4 (old ENG lens), Canon 24-105mm and Panasonic 14-140mm. Very versatile. I like the ability use the Super 35 setting or set the sensor to almost any size the the variable scan it offers. I used the V Log setting and got great low-light performance that easily graded. I shot in manual mode yet still can't figured out how to use the auto settings, which ... Show More

Anamorphic and slow motion options?

Oct 31, 2015

The firmware upgrade was a big improvement, but I still miss some options to use it with all my anamorphic adapters and finally be able to replace my gh4. That would be a great camera if we could shoot in different aspect ratios in high resolutions (4:3 and 3:2 for 2x and 1.5x adapters). Also a variable de-squeeze mode to display these images properly. If i'm not asking too much, slow motion options are also missing. Until then... I'll stick with my gh4. Hurry up JVC!

Where is JVC support???

Oct 5, 2015

After much anticipation, I purchased this camera, expecting it to be a work horse, as the ads state. As a 50% run and gun - 50% studio / controlled shooting environment, I take see the potential for a crisp image, but with much fine tuning. The concerns are obvious - cheaply made plastic body, ultra flimsy view finder, a basically useless hand strap. The not so obvious in my findings anyway, is the audio issue - a low-to-high wavering of loud aud... Show More

As of Sept 30th Firmware v2.0, free for all owners, is now available to download for our GY-LS300 and GY-HM170/200 #4KCAM camcorders via our support website. Camera no good for digital cienma

Sep 8, 2015

This camera deffinetly is not good for shooting digital cinema. I try one for like 2 weeks and we found many problems on the quality of the image. I have many other JVC products and they are excelents and I'm very happy, but this GY-LS300 does not meet the minimum requirements for cinema 4k.First of all, we notice a very severe problem of moire (aliasing). Every time we have an image with fine lines you can notice the problem inmediately, even wi... Show More

JVC PLEASE ADD 120fps in v3

Aug 13, 2015

My rating is based solely on the free v2 firmware September/2015 upgrade. I purchased camera and waiting for delivery next week (8/18/15). I was told a new and powerful free v2 firmware upgrade is coming September/2015. I hope JVC is monitoring this review. If they can add a 120fps rate in their next firmware update (and based on the v2 specs, I do not see any issue with this request), they could open up a big market of buyers for them!!! What an all around camera the LS300 would be!!!

Update on the update of my previous review-

Aug 6, 2015

I recently wrote two very critical but what I considered very fair reviews of the JVC 4k cam, gy-ls300. Today JVC just announced a firmware upgrade that includes corrections for several of the problems I brought up in my reviews. I noted that the reviews were flagged by several who visited the B&H ls300 page as helpful, and more than likely dissuaded them from purchasing, at least, at the moment. Earlier, before i wrote the two reviews, I had con... Show More

Great Camera by JVC

Jul 23, 2015

I am very happy with this camera. It's a great DSLR Killer. I can use it without any rig!! :-) Amazing Picture quality. 4K internal recording is very good. Simple things that I would like to have on this Camera: 1) Similiar Color Profile of Canon C-log I would be great to have a Color Profile that would exactly match with the Flat color profile from the Canon 5D MKIII; C100; C200; etc... Some times I have to mix this camera with canon Cameras, an... Show More

Update on my previous review

Jul 21, 2015

This is an update on my previous review for your consideration (forewarning). In that review I opined regarding the poor quality of the lcd and evf. In point of fact, these two items are the same as the ones they use in lower models of half the price. The LCD is mediocre to put it kindly, but the evf is terrible by any standards. Almost any prosumer model you can name by Sony or Canon or Panasonic, etc, has a better lcd and evf than the LS300. Co... Show More

Great camera with (IMO) some serious short comings.

Jun 19, 2015

I purchased the LS300 as my first 4k camera back in April of this year. In some respects I think I should wait to write a review, but there are some things I believe need to be mentioned that customers should know before deciding to buy. Yes, there's no perfect camera, but some short comings are obvious and can be easily corrected before the products hits the market.First, I'm not a professional, but I've been studying and working to improve my v... Dream Camera for Filmmakers

May 8, 2015

I am an independent filmmaker, having done 16mm and Super8 features, and now very enthusiastic about HD and 4K video. I've now used four 4K cameras - Sony FDRAX33, AX100, PMWZ100, and now the JVC. They are all good, especially the beautiful AX100, but the best is the JVC which has the cleanest, clearest, most vivid video I have ever seen in my life. I did test shots and monitored them on HDMI 1.4 directly out of the LS300 on a Samsung 55 4K TV wh... Show More

Handy cam indeed

Jan 19, 2015

Just had the opportunity to play around with a beta firmware here in japan and loved it! Dynamic range is quite nice, it has also nice roll off of the highlights. Specific colour science, but this is a subject to change in the final version. Quite handy little fellow!
