Great for the price

This is not an RCA or AEA or anything like that, but it is outstanding for the price. I'm not recording in a fine studio anyway, so a pristine vintage RCA would be wasted on anything I do, and you can have five or six of these for the same amount of money. Maybe more of them. I have experimented with them in a number of ways. I have liked putting them on female vocals along with a condenser to get the warmth of a ribbon with the crispness of a condenser. I have not tried them as drum overheads yet, but have heard very good things about using them that way. They have a figure 8 pattern, so that limits their usefulness if you need to isolate a source in a room. There are unidirectional ribbon mics, but they are all a whole lot more expensive than a CR-14. For what its worth, this is the second one I have owned. I gave the first one to my brother when I thought I would be getting away from any figure 8 pattern mics, due to the limitations of my music room. I use this microphone for across the table discussions / interviews. It is so clear and clean without any background noise whatsoever. No distortion at all . I initially tested the yeti pro, but it had way too much distortion / noise with my setup. This mic however has been a champion for what I use it for, plus it has great range. I love the figure 8 pickup pattern on this mic. I will be purchasing another one in the future.

I was referred to this mic by Ray Kennedy ( 5x Grammy winning producer ) In his always valued opinion he told me this mic held its own against his collection of expensive vintage RCA ribbon mics. He was right. Your guitars will love this thing....haven’t used a 57 on a Gtr in years now. Personally, I love it.

Purchased for my home studio, and wanted that darker sound that ribbons can deliver. This one did. It's got a nice up-close response with soft voices, and a good proximity effect when you back off from it. For a few hundred bucks I don't think there is another ribbon that can touch it. I'd buy it again in a heartbeat.

I have used this mic a couple times to record Acoustic guitar, vocals, and live drum kit. I ordered another one because I like the first so much. It works well especially on drums, giving a vintage tone and pleasant reproduction of cymbals, which can be brash and overbearing. Someday I'll have a pair of Royer 121's, but for now, the CR-14's will fit the bill nicely! Ribbon mics are the bomb!!

I love the sound of this microphone. I use it for vocals with a cathedral pipes durham booster - for baritone male vocals it has an excellent response.

The title says it all. It comes in a durable case and will be a good workhorse mic, but it's not special.

Nice ribbon starting option, little hard to set it on sweet-spot for amps, but does the job! Good low and punchiness, but somehow too dark for some uses.
