Nice little broadcast camera
I bought this X70 back in August 2015 and have been shooting a documentary. The footage is really nice. I was actually amazed by the quality of the image. Sharp without being harsh. Good low-light image. Menu a bit complex, but workable. Audio control was good. It is a pro camera on a budget. I have a few concerns that did not allow me to go all 5 stars. The auto-focus is slow to react. I often waited for 8-10 seconds for the lens to focus, which... Show More

No comparison! in a good way!!
I spent quite a bit of time researching Camrose and I am so glad that I bought this one. The camera does everything so much better than I expected. here is a side-by-side comparison with my old camera so you can see if yourself! https://youtu.be/ZvQ2M7FP_0U

Pro performance at entry level price
Very pleased with the operation of this entry level camera. Specs are better than much higher priced cams. With the XAVC codec, we're thinking about adding more Sony products to the line-up.

Very Pleased
Was a longtime Panasonic follower, but I am overjoyed I switched to this Sony model. You simply just cannot beat this price point for what you are getting. Totally pleased with this purchase. One big con. This may just be a personal one, but I am a CS6 user and was faced with three options to deal with the mxf files. Upgrade to the subscription based Creative Cloud (NO), pay near $400 for a third party-plugin (NO), or mess with ffmpeg until I get it right (OK fine).

Workhorse broadcast level camera without the expense!
I was in need up a reasonable cost upgrade to FHD 1920x1080P cababilities. I picked up another camera that was a bit more expensive but new on the market and had to return it due to terrible low light image quality. When I returned it, I spoke with a B&H rep in the video department about a reasonable cost option that uses SD cards. He pointed out two cameras and this was the one he leaned towards. The 1 sensor, low cost upgrade license to unlock ... Show More

Great and easy to use 4K camera
I used to use DSLR type cameras to shoot my YouTube videos, but this was very time consuming to setup. I do this as a side gig and I just need something that is easy to setup, shoot, and edit. This camera has met that requirement as I can take shots of myself and zoom in to get macro product shots all without having to swap out lenses. It has sped up my workflow to get my videos out as quickly as possible. So I have been happy with this camera fo... Show More

Great looking video, awful file format
I purchased this camcorder for shooting interviews due to the positive reviews I read. The auto controls were very glitchy. Once I imported the footage and tried to edit, it was a nightmare. Great video but no audio even though there was audio press when I lagged back on the camera. After hours of reading audio. O play ta similar to mine I returned the angers. Sony really dropped the ball on this model.

An Outdoor Production Hit
I have been filming for approximately 6 years in the outdoor industry. In which, camera men/women have to pack in a lot of equipment on their backs each day that they head out to film which creates a constant struggle to be as small and light as possible without compromising quality. I think that Sony has developed a great combination with both quality and size/weight with this camera and one that can be appreciated by most everyone that films. T... Show More

Great bang for your buck
I bought this camera to use for making small video projects for clients. I was impressed with easy to use interface and incredible picture quality. I just wish it was a little better in low-light but it's not bad. I was also happy to learn that I can upgrade this to 4K later on.

A great Camera indeed!
This camera records in High Definition internally at XAVC Long GOP, enabling 422 10-bit sampling at 50 Mbps, now that's a big deal at its price, because it means that you don't need to use an external recorder to record at the same codec and also the 1' sensor helps a lot in low light situations to capture shallower depth of field.

External Mike Holder is Flimsy and Easy to Break
I like everything about this camera and especially now that Sony has announced that it is going to provide an upgrade to the 4K resolution to shoot at 100mbps. The only problem I have is that the external mike holder is easily breakable. It broke on my camera when I dropped it. Other people have noted this defect The upper part of the holder is attached by a thin piece of metal. I can't find the holder in Sony's parts department. It should be easy to replace since it is held onto the camera with two screws.

Great camera !!!
I am working with broadcast for a tv show and the x70 is a dream, so easy to work with. At this price it is hard to find anything with this quality. I do recommend this camera. Also ordering from B&H is always a smooth transaction And I just ordered the 4K UPGRADE , can't wait to get it.

Price vs Performance = Great Buy !
At this price point there is nothing which comes close. Video is superb. I have the 4K option but don't use it that much. 1080P XAVC has made several cablecast shows. In my opinion, this is an interview/B-Roll cam not an action cam. Don't buy a Prius and expect to qualify for the Indy 500. I do motorsports for various networks and when it comes to shooting 100mph+ action you go with the big boy. Pits, interview room and beauties is where this bab... Show More

A year on, what I've learned
I reviewed this camera about 9 months ago.I will never again believe Sony about something they say is coming soon. After nearly one year of owning this camera, it is only now capable of direct ingest in Final Cut Pro X. We were promised firmware in 2015 which would allow 4k. However, when it came, they wanted $ for it and it was a less-than-impressive implementation.I had an accident on a shoot last week. Really the first one ever. The result was... Show More

Best pick for price vs performance, w/ a few qualifiers
We have three X70's and use them for multi-camera studio shoots, as well as run-and-gun style (sports, musical events, festivals, etc.). As of today, in the 1 sensor class, to get broadcast quality without an external recorder, you're not going to find anything better for the price. That said, there are definitely some opportunities for improvement from Sony. What's Great I think the depth-of-field is probably the most underrated feature of this ... Show More

Great, but not perfect
I purchased this camera to replace a three-year-old Canon XA10. The large sensor was the big headline feature that put this in a league of its own for the price point. The build quality seems solid, and controls are logically arranged. Given the ultra-compact Canon from which I was coming, one disappointment on the Sony is the fact that the slowest zoom speed is far faster than that of the Canon, even though the Canon had a not-so-professional si... 2nd Review
I use the product in the field for ENG work and also for industrials. **BIG PROBLEM*** updating the firmware screwup on a Mac. As in, no way does Sony give two lumps about Mac users kind of screwup. No support, no way through. AVCHD imports easily into Premiere Elements, cuts nicely. Shot for network newscasts, blends in nicely with super-high-end cameras. I use this as a B-roll camera for a network and industrial videos. SOFTWARE/FIRMWARE: Update is NOT working on my MacBook Pro Retina 15 2012 w/16 gb ram. Tried rebooting everything, camera first, etc. - cannot make the latest firmware update take. Sony doesn't care about Macs it's clear. Controls are inhumanely designed. Solid Camera
The Sony PXW-X70 is exactly what I was looking for, a smaller, compact professional video camera. The camera body feels solid and the image quality is excellent. This camera is very convenient for my needs, it shoots in XAVC 50mb/s in 1080p/60p, as well as every other obvious frame rate and resolution. I am also excited this camera is 4K ready, I'll be upgrading to that when the time is right. The X70 also features 2 XLR audio plug ins and a remo... Show More

Great camera--with a reputation marred by a bungled roll out
Up front I want to say the four instead of five stars is not for the camera, but for the bungling of those in charge of the roll out of this camera. From the very beginning everything has been bungled by them, for reasons hard to fathom. The 4k boondoggle is just the last in a litany of sorrows. I run my own company, and In my opinion, just about the worst thing a company can do is disappoint customers. It leaves a very bad taste in customers' mo... Show More
