Sony hits the sweet spot

May 18, 2014

I've been shooting for 40+ years mostly 35mm, but also some large format. My last film rig was a Leica M system. I bought the A6000 with the Sony/Zeiss 16-70, and have just looked at some photos taken with that lens and also with my M 50 Summilux and 35 Summicron. My results have been fabulous. The Zeiss compares favorably with the M primes, and although I'll leave the Zeiss on most of the time, its nice to have the ability to use the M glass. Th... Show More

New tricks for old dog

Sep 10, 2014

First, it may be a five star product, but I am still learning how to use. I am an apple user, but a slow learner with some technology. The camera is great in taking sharp pictures, quick focus and frame speed. Having a little trouble figuring out how to use the recommended software. The manual supplied with the camera was superficial. It mentioned all the buttons, menus, etc, but assumed I was at least an intermediate digital photographer. Bought... Show More

Love the camera --- the s/w not so much

Nov 23, 2014

I love the size and the quality photos of this camera. Along these lines it was exactly what I was looking for. I would like to see a better lens selection, which seems to be one of the issues with Sony. The other issue is the software apps which are tedious and sometimes difficult to set up. For instance, in order to upgrade one app on the camera, I am being required to upgrade the firmware, but unfortunately it is not compatible with my latest ... Show More

Excellent camera, auto setting does a great job

Feb 20, 2017

I am an amateur photographer and wanted a camera that I could easily use and grow into as I develop my skills. Out of the box the camera was easy to use, the intelligent auto mode is quite impressive. I currently shoot mostly family photos so I also purchased the sony 30 mm f1.8 prime lens. The kit lens works okay but for nice portraits I prefer the f1.8 lens. I really like the customization that is available with the camera and the autofocus doe... Show More

A lot for a little

Feb 1, 2017

I am a life long Nikon user (almost three decades) and was looking for a small camera to carry with me all the time and It came down to the Nikon d5300 and the Sony a6000. Even though I would be able to use all my Nikon lens with the d5300 that camera felt like a brick and ergonomics matters when carrying and using a camera. The a6000 felt better in the hand and I could see myself carrying this thing with me all the time without much thought. The... Show More

Versatile travel camera

Aug 21, 2015

I purchased this camera for international travel to have a lighter camera than my Canon 6D. I was pleased with the results from the smaller sensor. This camera has a lot of user functionality and I appreciated having the HDR capability built in. The resolution of the photos is adequate for the 8x10 calendars that I produce each year. Of course, the detail is not near as fine as a full frame sensor, but it is a good compromise if you are looking t... Show More

Still Awesome after All These Years

I actually went backwards in this purchase. I bought the a6500 first. I love it! Its been a four-month love affair! I primarily use the a6500 for video shooting in my recording studio. I bought the a6000 to use as my B camera (Both are set to 24FPS. The a6500 shoots 4K and the a6000 1080P). So far, Im happy with the a6000. Honestly, Ive looked at video of both and both are great! I shoot some still too and believe the a6500 does a better job. I... Show More

Just What I Needed Moving Up from PnS

Mar 8, 2015

Great camera with lots of options and settings. I've always stretched my phone cameras and Sony point-n-shoot to the max so it's great to have something that allows me so much more flexibility and room to grow without the bulk. It is bigger than a phone or PnS but still very manageable for hiking and carrying around. Still getting used to the PZ kit lens, I think if I would do it over I would spend a little extra and get a wide-angle prime but th... Show More

Hooked up to the 70-200 F/4 G lens it is much better than I expected it to be. 24 meg is perfect too. Focus speed is fantastic too. Nice Camera

I bought this camera as a light weight alternative to my D800. It works well and is easy to carry around. It focuses fast and the photos have come out very well. I take most of my photos in RAW and on Manual and I'm pleased with the general outcome. The cons would be you'd better have a pocket full of batteries? Another thing to get used to is the short delay while the photo is written to the memory card. Also there is a lot of distortion with th... Show More

This is one of those rare items that are a great value and that live up to the expectations. Great size, super-light and simply a great camera to shoot with. The 16-50mm lens is ok, not great, but ok. Using it with other Sony lenses opens up a wealth of possibilities though and the great auto focus is a plus. I heard many reports about the fast AF system, and how this was replacing some pro's DSLR. So, since I shoot a lot of sports and this was inexpensive relative to a DSLR with similar characteristics, I decided to try it. There is no way a professional sports photog would use this. The AF system is no where near as fast as my Nikon. The 11 FPS is awesome but if the subject is running the AF system can't keep up - so the 11 FPS would be worthless. T... Show More
