Nice little camera...

Mar 26, 2018

I ordinarily shoot with a full-frame, rangefinder camera and prime lenses. I was looking for a waterproof, shockproof camera that we could take on vacation, and this camera fit the bill nicely. It was easy to set up out of the box. The image quality is surprisingly good, and it can save RAW images. We took the camera to 20 feet and got really nice photos. My only gripe is that the menus are a bit complicated and the package only includes a quick-start guide. I wound up downloading the user manual on my phone. Overall, I'd buy it again.

Tough and easy

Mar 6, 2018

This camera is well thought out and easy to use. I recommend getting the case and floater strap. I also would like it if Olympus had included a lens cap. The underwater setting is amazing and does a super job of bringing the shots to life. I suspect the longer lense would make the shots even better. Olympus should have a super package with the camera and all the accessories available in one package. My only criticism is that the camera is very hard on batteries

Great Hybrid, high quality, camera

Excellent pictures under and above water. Needs time to learn operating procedures, but it is worth every dollar. Very happy with it. Highly reccomended for outdoors/sports users.

A great pocket camera.

Feb 10, 2018

No complaints. This tough little guy takes beautiful sharp pictures and it does everything the ads tell you. I didn't necessarily buy it for underwater shooting. All I want is a really nice camera to carry with me that I don't have to worry about getting damaged.

Brand new out if the box and it doesnt work!i bought it to take on vacation. Got here. Read the manuals and tried everything. Its a lemon. Cant even get past the language set up. Ruined my vacation! Im back in NY tomorrow and will be in to return it along with the extra battery and case. Garbage!

I got this for a trip the first 10 days of March when we will be snorkeling on shallow semitropical waters. I've been using it around the house to get the hang of the menus and settings, It will take a photo down as close as you care to get. I haven't tried the focus stacking yet, you need a tripod for that. Of course the only way I could try underwater would be to either go to a pool or fill a sink with water and a rock of something. Great Little Camera

Jan 17, 2018

Just got back from Hawaii where I used the camera on land and in the ocean. I'm very happy with the terrestrial pictures (and video) and while I had no trouble with the camera underwater, the water was very murky and so it's hard to judge. I prefer it to the Nikon AW130 it replaced.

Tough but elegant

Dec 26, 2017

I was looking for a new waterproof, tough, point and shoot for wet weather, hiking, kayaking, fishing and a trip to Antarctica. I chose this over a Nikon because the instructions are very easy to follow and its not at all hard to sort out all the options for different types of shots. Tried it so far in very cold wet weather and so far so good.

Excellent Choice

Dec 14, 2017

Great color and detail. Low light and accuracy of color is outstanding due to 2.0 lens. You can shoot without flash in most indoor situations. Basic menus easy to access, many advanced features available. Good zoom range and autofocus is fast and accurate. Video sharp and color is great. Only con is noisy zoom if used during video. Overall this is the best all weather camera that would be great even without the weatherproofing. Totally recommended.

Significant Chromatic Aberration limits photo quality

Dec 8, 2017

I'm quite satisfied with the underwater photos - but I also use my Olympus TG-5 as a walk around camera when boating. Many of the images have significant chromatic aberration - lines of yellow, blue or green outlining the subject. This can be corrected with the supplied Olympus editing program, but it is very slow and not well suited for batch processing. The included lens profile processed within Lightroom does not correct the chromatic aberrati... Show More

Great point and shoot for all those non iPhone situations

Nov 3, 2017

After six years of use, my Canon S95 gave out and I could no longer get it repaired. Considering how far cell phone cameras have come and I didn't need another DSLR - I decided to look for a camera that could do things my iPhone 7 couldn't (take it fishing, hunting, boating, swimming, to the beach, to the dog park, etc...and I found the TF5. I am VERY happy with it. PRO: Image quality is VERY good for what the camera is and it is most definitely TOUGH. Con: the WIFI has been spotty at times (even with my iPhone 6 away).

TG-5 First Impressions

Sep 8, 2017

I shoot in the ocean daily, I shoot surfing photos and shallow underwater photos, for the last 9 years I have used Olympus Tough cameras exclusively, this is my 8th Olympus Tough. This latest model continues with the rugged features and good water resistance with the huge improvements of a lens and LCD screen that do not fog like some of the previous models. The lens also has displayed a remarkable ability to shed water and stay relatively spot f... Show More

Great Vacation Camera

Sep 1, 2017

The TG-5 is a great camera for its intended purpose. It excels as a family vacation camera for use at the beach, around the pool, and as a camera that you can take anywhere without worry. It is a great snorkeling camera combined with the optional fisheye attachment and you can get surprisingly good portraits with background separation if you use the optional telephoto lens attachment. The camera really shines as a tool to capture macro images of ... Show More

Horrible Image Quality and Low Light Performance

Aug 20, 2017

In summary, this camera is AWFUL. I was really looking forward to getting it since my previous tough camera was a 7 year old Panasonic Lumix, and I figured after this much time there would be some improvements in the technology, but this camera is actually far worse - worse than just using an iPhone. ? Low light performance is abysmal, and I'm not talking about a dark room with no light. I mean anything other than full, bright sunlight is a fail ... Show More

Not waterproof

Aug 16, 2017

Leaked and failed on the second day of snorkeling on a Hawaiian vacation. Luckily, I also took my 6 year old Pentax water camera which IS a waterproof camera and did not leak under the exact same conditions as this Olympus camera. TG-5 filled with sand and water. Worked intermittently for a bit after it dried out, then died again. Took very nice pictures for a day. Panorama features works correctly only about 30% of the time. Note that water cameras that have been submerged are non returnable.

Excellent outdoor and recreational camera

Aug 16, 2017

Great features - I particularly like the ability to shoot RAW, ability to shoot in a version of aperture-preferred mode, and relatively easy access to change ISO. Just shot about a thousand images and it barely made a dent in battery life. As a rough and tumble, waterproof backup to my large DSLR system, this definitely fits my intended use for outdoor and water sport recreational activities. Wish the higher ISO noise level was better, but given sensor size it's not bad. Highly recommend.

Very full featured rugged camera

Jul 30, 2017

The TG-5 is a rugged, very full featured camera. It will take some time to work through the manual to understand just what this camera can do. On the other hand, it is easy to set up and start taking pictures. It is the first ruggedized camera that I seen that takes sharp images and with excellent color. The zoom is a little short -- ony 4X (25-100 mm equivalent), and the aperture is virtual, meaning that it does not actually close down, so depth... Show More

Don't buy for video and especially for slowmo

Jul 24, 2017

Video is disappointing, slow motion especially. Here is why. Slowmo (or high fps) is limited to 20 sec (for 120fps) shooting only, and it is simply impossible to catch the moment. If you want to shoot a slowmo action in nature (e.g. butterfly) and you don't know when the action will happen, then you have to press the record button again and again and sometimes the action will be missed. I understand that this limitation may come from the MCU, mem... Show More
