Azden is definitely stepping up with their Microphone. For me this Mic sounds really good and the integrated shock-absorbing shoe mount works well. I love the auto off feature, it shuts off automatically when I turn off my Cam and it goes to sleep too when my cam goes to sleep! The size is a bit big but it does not bother me at all.

Like many others, I've been using Rode for on camera shotgun mike. It finally fell apart on me and I came upon this Azden. Most importantly, I think it has terrific audio capabilities, certainly on par or better than the Rode. But it surpasses the Rode in build quality. No more rubber band stabilizers that snap and/or wear out. This is a solid stabilizer system. Also - it turns on/off when the camera does - a feature not available on the Rode I had, only the more expensive model. And it takes AA batteries, not 9 volt, another improvement. It also has a low band filter and good gain settings. All in all, it has everything the "advanced" Rode mike has - for less money than the cheaper Rode, that has none of those features. It comes with a windshield, it doesn't seem to be appreciatively heavier or larger than the old Rode, either - unlike the upgraded Rode which is kind of huge for mirrorless cameras. So, yes, I strongly recommend this camera. ... More

Back in the broadcast camera days, most all pro cameras came with decent handle-mounted mics. Things are different in the DSLR-type hybrid video camera world. The purpose of an on camera mic for me is to record ambient effects. However, on occasion I have actually shot location interviews, usually outdoors at big events. By moving in 3-4 feet from the subject and placing the person so the mic is facing away from the loudest background noise, it is possible to get useable audio. The Azden is, in my opinion, comparable to the similarly priced Rode camera mic. It has two features that influenced my purchase. One, it's a small size and does not stick out behind the camera too far. Some of the on camera mics are offset so far it's nearly impossible to use the EVF. Second, the mic has an auto switch that's nice. Not auto gain, but auto on off. You can set it in auto, plug it into your camera's audio input, and when the camera is turned on, the mic turns on. When the camera is turned off, the mic goes off. So you don't have to remember to turn it on when you get in a hurry. My GH5 has audio meters visible on the screen, so I always know if I'm getting audio even if my headphones are off. But if you don't have internal meters, this auto on/off feature is nice. The sound quality of this mic is not going to be as good as a shotgun mic costing hundreds more--that's what my boom mic is for. But for its intended use I think it's a great buy. ... More

You'd think one time of forgetting to turn on the microphone would be all it took to learn a lesson... apparently not, and that's why this mic is so great! It turns on when you start recording, so you don't have to worry about it. It also sounds good!

Could not be easier to use... especially set on auto ... one less thing to remember turning it on and off... Used it at a party setting last night and I was bouncing back between normal and -10bd going from indoors and outdoors... I think I will add some bass in post to give it a more pleasing sound at least for my ear...

This was my first microphone away from rode and it was a good move. The build quality is good, it functions properly and price isn't too bad. Only thing is the microphone does hit your eye if you're using EVF but no other complaints

I like this product because of some of the features, such as the switch to decrease the low end rumble. So the product is doing what I expect, but I need to find a way to control my mike input a little better. That will come with time as I learn what products are best for what I am doing.

I am very pleased with the Azden SMX-15. I chose it over the SMX-30 since it is slightly smaller and I did not expect to need the stereo feature the -30 has. Love the auto feature that detects when the camera is on.

Way better than the three Rode Mics that broke on me. Very intuitive.
