Perfect travel camera for people used to DSLRs. So much functionality and fits in a small bag.

a disappointment for a $900 p&s
It's overall not terrible- pretty advanced features, a menu system I spent months deciphering with the a7rIII, shoots raw and seems to do a decent job. My one main issue is that it CONSTANTLY hunts for focus, never locking on, even in the most clear, well lit situations. I've tried every single focus mode. Ken Rockwell's review mentions this. Still, it manages to get most shots in focus. BUT it makes for a very distracting, unconfident shooting process.

Love the Speed Priority Continuous Shooting Mode!
Wow! Loving the new RX 100 IV, especially using the speed priority continuous shooting mode. Wonderful feature and every picture is tack shop!! I have the I, II, III and now the IV and the IV is a big improvement over the III! If I were to take a trip and could only take one camera out of all those I own (a lot!), the RX 100 IV would be the one I would carry and know I wouldn't be disappointed. Always dependable and reliable.

Best Pocketabe Camera Hands Down
There are no perfect photo machines but this RX100 IV is close for this type of camera. Photos are excellent up to 1600 ISO and perfectly acceptable at somewhat higher ISO. A ton of features that take time to discover and implement. This is definitely a Pro Consumer camera, not for a novice, but with effort it renders great results. Sony menu systems are difficult but once mastered seem good considering the extensive features available. Very wel... Show More

Amazing Machine
I have used this model DSC-RX100 IV to shoot a staggering number of movies. Naturally I have been running the audio separately and syncing it (just like film) for post production. For the experienced movie maker (especially one who started with actual film) this machine is incredible. It is tiny, fits in my pocket, and never intimidates people. If you have not shot on film before it is probably better to use a SonyPXW-Z90V 4K which allows you to ... Show More

Slow motion, what slow motion. It took me a week to get it to work after I made the correct HDR menu selections. I followed the instructions and kept getting error message When the center button is pressed it enters the standby mode then you press record... But pressing the record button only gets me the same message..When the center button is pressed it enters the standby mode then you press record... It keeps doing this and wont shoot slowmo.. ... Hoped for a DSLR sub but waste of money
I bought this hoping for a small, lightweight sub for my DSLR while cycling/skiing/hiking. Image quality is great but camera is extremely frustrating to use. Main reason I chose this was the viewfinder, as I have trouble seeing the LCD screen. It takes 2 steps (pop up, then pull out eyepiece with 2 hands) each time you want to use it. If you leave it out, the eyepiece easily slips back in and you need to pull it out again, by which time your shot... Show More

Quality Product, Do Your Research Before Buying!
This is a quality product that shoots high quality video at high frame rates, but you need to do your research before buying. At the highest frame rates, it can only record 2-4 seconds, and it takes some getting used to capture the shot that you want. You will also need A LOT of light for the higher frame rates (as Im sure that many of you already know).

Great camera
First use was at Arches National Park and the results were exceptional. All images are so vividly clear. I used many the features of the camera, the neutral density filter was nice during the Utah sun, as being able to change settings with the control wheel to fit the situation.. I purposely left my loaded camera bag home for this test as the camera has a limited zoom, but with the large sensor pp zooming saved lotsa steps. I would highly recommemd this camera

Great choice if you want a small full featured camera
I took this Sony on a trip recently. Worked wonderfully in a variety of lighting situations. This time I wanted a small camera that was easy to use, had a great selection of menus and was easy to carry in a bag. The menus were not difficult to figure out especially if you had worked with other Sony DSLR cameras.

Take It Everywhere!
Love this camera! Imagery is superb. Weighs almost nothing. Zoom feature is highly useful. Keep this little treasure on your hip every time you leave the house and you'll never miss the shot. Great camera for street photography. No one ever pays any attention to it or me. Fully featured for pro settings.

Great Camera, dead after 1 1/2 years
It was a great camera and it took great pictures while it was alive, but less than 6 months after end of warranty and it developed the battery drain problem. When turned off it will drain the battery to 0 overnight. I hear this is a common problem with these cameras. Sony sent me to a repair center where they are quoting $306 just to take a look.

Perfect for my travelling needs!
I travel extensively for my job. My Nikon 7100 and assorted lenses, tripod are just too much to carry on a regular basis. I searched and contemplated for over a year before I pulled the plug on this one. It is small and packed with features. I have really put this camera through it's paces this last week. The ND filter option is fantastic. I have included a couple of time exposure waterfall shots that were taken mid day and was able to get good r... Show More

Low light performance, fast processing
Low light performance was the primary draw to this camera. I have DSLRs with comparable performance, but compared to current phones and last generation point and shoot cameras, this takes amazing shots. The processor is also fast (when paired with a good SD card), so you can easily capture moving subjects.

Second one I have owned
If you want a simple point and shoot, this camera may be overkill but, if you want the equivalent of a DSLR that you can carry in you pocket, you can't go wrong with this camera. This is the second RX100 I have owned (the first, series 1, was stolen). The 70mm telephoto might seem a bit short but the 20MP 1 sensor allows one to crop images and still have a sharp photo. This is a great camera but, I find the manual to be poorly written and I have to go on-line to answer some questions.

Great compact camera!
This is my second DSC-RX100. I love this camera. It's compact and fits in my pocket, so it goes with me everywhere and I use it almost every day. It's technically sophisticated, but versatile and easy to use. I opened an exhibition in New York last evening. Half the prints were made with my DSLR, and half with with my DSC-RX100. The show has prints up to 20 x 24 inches and it is impossible to tell the difference between images taken with the DSLR and the DSC-RX100. The prints are crisp, with rich tonality and color. I couldn't be more pleased.

I regret the purchase
This camera can take a nice picture for a pocket camera, but it is not worth the cost. There are some very nice features deep within the menus, but in the field they are tough to see and tougher to get to. We also had to get the entire mother board replaced and while it was covered by Sony, I have never had that kind of problem with another camera. I regret the purchase.

A Great Camera Line Has Become Even Better!
Before purchasing the Sony RX100 IV I was using the RX100 III. I gave it to a family member so they could take high quality photos of their kids. The RX100 cameras take excellent photos in auto mode, so I thought they would enjoy it. What I liked was using the RX100 in the A, M modes and pushing the limits using some unique features like Sony Clear View Zoom (some degradation, but not like digital zoom), and their well implemented DRO/HDR feature... Nearly Perfect SLR Substitute for Routine Shooting
This camera, that I use when I don't want to lug my 5D Mark II, is nearly perfect for this purpose. The only thing costing it a 5 star rating for me is its very low battery capacity. This is easily solved by having multiple batteries on hand.

Great, except for the autofocus and metering settings
Generally a very good camera. The flash is bounceable, the focus ring is handy, the screen tilts 180 degrees, the EVF is great, and the sensor is excellent. I can't stand the menu system, though... it's much too difficult to change autofocus and metering settings. That, for me, is a deal breaker and I returned the camera.

So far, so good
Early days as I bought the camera about 3 weeks ago, but very positive feedback so far. I bought the Sony as an alternative to my Nikon D7000 which is a bit too heavy to take around in some cases. I was surprised that the DSC-RX100 has at least as many functionalities as the Nikon and setting it up is very easy and user friendly. The only disappointment so far is the battery that seems to have limited capacity Not cheap, but worth the money

Just what I wanted for my upcoming trip overseas.
This replaces my ten year old pocket camera so you can imagine how fun this new camera is for me. It is a lot bigger than my old camera but still comfortable to pocket. I am still learning all of the various special abilities of this thing but the in camera descriptions are a big help. Seems to hold a charge and give me a lot of snaps for a full battery. Seems solid so I expect to keep this at least as long as my last camera.
