Excellent Pocket Camera
This is the pocket camera I've been waiting for. It fits in a shirt or jeans pocket and the image quality comes very close to DSLR standards. I previously had a Canon G11 which is a good small camera but it was too big to carry everywhere and image quality was always a compromise, especially in dynamic range and tonal depth. The RX100 does not match the dynamic range of my Nikon D7000 but it is very good. The lens is very sharp in the center. This won't replace my DSLR but it is a very welcome second camera that can go everywhere and produce very good images.

A Complete Pocketable Camera System
This is the digital camera I've been waiting for, for about six or seven years. it reminds me of the film Contax T-3, but with an excellent zoom. When you add digital zoom to the optical zoom, it produces surprisingly good image quality out to at least 10 times the wide angle. In Program Mode, the front control ring has a clever combined shutter/aperture priority feature. Also in Program, the exposure compensation is quickly available with the Fn button.

Finally, the right small camera.
I would really give it 4.5 stars for a few things I'd change. I'd like a grip (ordered an after-market one) so it would feel more secure and I wouldn't be so likely to put my finger on top of the pop-up flash. However, for such a tiny camera, it really packs a wallop. Very detailed images, and it can be either simple or complex to use, depending on desires. It offers a lot in the way of playing with the image for people who do not have processing software. I am looking forward to when Adobe updates to support RAW files. I am not really interested in the Sony version.

At last
Finally. Finally a compact camera that can shoot nearly as fast as a DSLR (or even a film camera. Remember those?). The delay between shots is now minimal. I would definitely suggest shutting off the shutter display after you take a photo (you can still see what you're shooting, it just doesn't display automatically the last photo taken). Nice camera, has a good overall feel to it.

surprised with image quality
This camera focuses (without the annoying AF illuminator) in low light,I mean REALLY low light, better than my D7000.The lens resolution outside the center of image,is substantually better than Nikon's 35 1.8DX. From low ISO to mabe 3200 this camera produces files that look pretty darn good, comparing to D7000.For a point and shoot(with a relatively small sensor)to always have attached to my belt-that is saying a lot. Also, forgot to mention that the... amazing
I have used a Canon 40D for a number of years and there is little that that camera can do that this new Sony cannot do. HDR is not a possiblity but the live view screen and histogram make shooting really easy. The program modes allow you to shoot in RAW and most controls are available from several different angles. All and all, I have carried the camera in my pocket (without a case) almost every day and have shot more images in the last two weeks than I shot in the prior two months. Perfect for anyone not wishing to carry a heavy camera and a bunch of extra equipment.

Best pocketable point and shoot ever!
I'm an avid amateur travel photographer, and have been using the RX100 for about 2 weeks. So far the results are spectacular. The capabilities of the camera are extensive, and every function seems to perform excellently, from macro shots, to the panorama function, to low light portraiture - all are outstanding. The camera is compact, the lens is very fast at the short end, and the images produced by the Zeiss optics are very hard to criticize. I ... Show More

Ditto
OK, you all have read 6 million reviews on this thing, and I must admit it is seldom in photo-techno-geek-talk land you get this much consensus. I first became aware of the RX-100 in a review from the Luminous Landscape review, which does not suffer fools or foolish products lightly. I then went on to read all the reviews here and throughout photo land both here and abroad. I agree, this is a game changer. I have a perfectly good Canon G10 which ... Show More

Mighty. Mini.
I picked up this camera just before leaving on a trip to China, and have been using it constantly for the last three weeks. It's been an absolute pleasure to use - small and fast with great picture quality - and I get a good deal of satisfaction seeing other travelers dealing with bulky DSLRs. My only complaint is that the camera's 'intelligent auto' setting frequently makes bizarre decisions. It tends to go way overboard with selective focus on ... Show More

New Sony RX100
this camera is easy to use, has all the features of a big camera with no changeable lens and the quality of photos are GREAT, especially raw. I wish the screen was moveable like NEX7 with a longer zoom.

Perfect alternative to a DSLR
I absolutely love this camera, even so much that it makes me wonder if I should leave my Canon 5DmkIII at home on my next vacation trip to Europe. It is everything that I could want in a point and shoot... Fast lens, great image quality at 20MP with it's 1 sensor, Fast accurate auto focus, small size, quick on/off, great Auto modes with fantastic multi-frame HDR. It is everything I had hoped Canon would have done with the G1X - which for me faile... Show More

Works well on my 64 bit Win 7 desktop, no problem. Finding it online took a bit though... my box had no disc, maybe that's your problem - newer version?

Been waiting years for a pocketable DSLR
I've tried for literally years to give up my bulky cameras and replace with something I could put in my pocket and nothing ever met the bar. I had high hopes for the Canon Powershot G1-X but returned it after just one session of shooting with it. Sony has finally done it, they've changed the landscape of pocketable cameras forever.

Dynamite comes in small packages!
This camera is a very powerful image maker! All the features speak for itself. Also, I also was impressed with the quality of the Sony jacket/cover and how well it fits and protects the camera

Great Camera - Poor Documentation
The RX100 is a very accomplished camera. Great lens, many foto manipulation possibilities, decent ergonomics and a great CMOS. It would be nice to have an external battery charger included with the camera. The electronics and handling are wonderful but the instruction manual fails to instruct, and the online videos on the Sony site are not very good. The camera does have built instructions but that only goes so far. Sony owes the users of the RX100 more than it gave them in terms of using the camera.

Little Marvel
I love how the RX100 feels in the hand. The camera controls are well designed and very intuitive, I've yet to really plough through the manual. Despite only a couple of days of shooting, I find the low light and aperture shots to be amazing. These are 2 of the reasons why I picked this camera. Great simple to use camera. Only 4 stars as it is quite expensive and the battery needs to be charged in camera. Actually happy to give it 5 stars if pushed !

Pocketable powerhouse!
The optics and large sensor combination are great for both still shots and video, the best on any pocketable camera. I wish the flash were a little stronger, but the 1.8 aperture allows for very low light shooting. The menu system and control settings are pretty easy to pick up for anyone already familiar with a camera of this type. I've already shot and edited some video with great results. Very nice camera.

Fantastic!
Very compact Very good in low light Fantastic enlargements Enlarged to 17x22 after cropping approx 5 to 10X. Minimal evidence of noise Battery life very good. Would like viewfinder like I have with an LX5 in order to make sneaky PIX in dark concert halls. Have not yet mastered technique to control DOF, but it will workout. PIX at ISO=3200 are quite satisfactory at 8X10 prints. Auto WB appears very true under varying conditions.

almost perfect all-in-one camera
Size matters. If size matters for fitting in your pocket, purse, or man-bag, give a strong look at this. If having something small enough to fit in your pocket doesn't matter, you may want to consider an interchangeable lens camera, but don't discount its other advantages. The price seems pricey, but I figure that the closest way to beat this camera would be a Panasonic GX1 with 14-42X, then you need the 14mm f/2.5 for wide low light, and then yo... Show More

Best photo quality from a pocket camera
I purchased RX100 to replace S95. The RX100 gives about 1.5 stop better photo quality than the S95 at low light. It is fast, has many built in features, including RAW files. The most useful for me are DRO and HDR expanding photo's dynamic range. It is almost as good as a DSLR but I can carry it everywhere in my pocket.

Looks Like a Game-Changer
I am a professional with a Nikon D800, which I love. But this is going to be the camera I carry around with me. The portability (size) is fantastic, fits in my pocket easily. I am still working my way around the camera, but it does all one could hope for in something so tiny. There is a variable f-stop depending on the zoom, but it has a maximum 1.8, think it's about 2.8 at 50mm. It's an extremely intelligent camera, love that I can direct the fo... Show More
