Close to perfect
After using a DSLR on a recent vacation, I wanted something smaller and easier to carry. The DSC-RX100 fits the bill. This camera has excellent picture and video quality and fits into my pants pocket. This camera has a 3.2x zoom which equates to 100mm. I wish the zoom were longer but overall I really like this camera.

Leave your SLR at home
After extensive research on PnS cameras, I landed on this Sony with trepidation. Have been shooting a G10 for a couple years but was never satisfied with IQ. Great cam overall but I always knew I'd be sacrificing IQ by leaving my 5dMkII at home. The other cams I considered: FujiFilm X10 and X100, the Canon S100 and G1X. I brought the RX-100 to Maui for a first-time use, and hesitantly left my DSLR behind. The freedom of not carrying 20lbs of gear... Show More

Almost Perfect
Like many other photo enthusiasts with a DSLR, I like to have a small point and shoot camera for the times when I can't or don't want to carry around a big, heavy camera. For the past four years, I've used a Panasonic LX3 with relatively good success. With all the buzz of the new Sony RX100 the past few months, I thought I'd give it a look as a replacement for my trusty LX3. Overall, the RX100 is a fantastic pocketable point and shoot camera that... Show More

Reserving Judgement
As other reviewers have said, the camera seems to be an excellent compact p&s, but Sony has limited its usefulness by providing inferior software. I uninstalled it. The jpegs are quite good, but it is impossible to tell how much of the shadows and highlights can be recovered. I am reserving final judgement on the RX-100 until Adobe updates LR4 and I can see what lurks in the RAW file. It's too pricey to just take jpegs, so not sure if I would recommend it.

Best point and shoot I've ever used
I'm completely amateur, and might be considered an enthusiast, but probably I should have just gotten a cannon s100 or 110 HS for half the price. But since I really wanted the blurred background affect, and money was of little object (it's a pricy camera, no ifs ands or buts) I figured what the heck. And it takes really good crisp photos of my newborn, in lots of different lighting conditions. I'm relearning some of the photo stuff I learned in middle school, and having fun figuring out my new toy.

Best performing pocket digicam ever
Great travel and family snapshot camera. Outstanding image quality, both stills and video. Very well made. This camera overcomes the drawbacks of earlier pocket cameras by featuring great image quality, great low light performance, and fast focus.

Pocket Marvel
I bought this camera to replace my aging Canon G-10 as I went on vacation last week. I'm a great fan of zeiss optics, and own many Contax film cameras, from the T4 up to the Contax 645. The camera is certainly faster than the G-10 and more portable, but it takes longer to get what you want out of it, image wise, if you are the kind of person who likes to control speed, aperture and ISO on every shot. The front ring that allows one to dedicate fun... Show More

STUNNING Pocket Camera
The Sony RX100 is a small pocket camera with great capability and very good image quality. I love it. I will use it for travelling leaving my M9 home for other uses. RX100 is more versatile (zoom, tiny..etc.) . A viewfinder would be a +.

Great Photos from a Pocket Camera!
I took my new Sony RX100 to Chicago this past weekend. It fits in my front pants pocket and delivers top quality photos. Much better than my point and shoot which I gave away to my niece. I like the front ring that allows me to change quickly change shooting modes. The sports mode works well to freeze action shots. The portrait mode produced excellent results. I wish it had a longer zoom.

CLOSE TO A MIRACLE ON EARTH!!!
This is great for all the reasons stated in all the reviews you have already read..., PLUS: --With Magic White screen you can actually see the image in daylight..., and --There is virtually ZERO barrel and pincushion distortion..., and --The adjustable function buttons are really easy to adjust, making the camera suitable to your shooting preference..., and --The menus are truly manageable Truly an amazing little device.

Decent P&S, but with short comings...
Considering its small size, large(er) sensor, fast (on the wide end) lens, and nice ISO performance up to around 400, this little gem should be a no brainer for anyone who wants some more serious capabilities in a small package. The main strength of this camera for me, size. What it does, it does well enough. However, it is not without drawbacks. Mainly, the lens falls down for its relatively slow aperture on the long end. Based on my years of sh... Show More

It broke in 5 days!
I bought this camera, I took only few pictures and it just stopped working,no image. I had to send it in to Sony repair after two hours on the phone and they still have it after two weeks.I have everything that Sony makes but no more after this nightmare.

Great new camera & downside
I couldn't be more delighted using the Sony RX100. It's an amazingly great camera. The downside is that Sony uses a proprietary ARW camera raw. There is no way edit their camera raw ARW files in Photoshop. The only possibility is to convert it to a JPEG or TIFF. The JPEG discards half the camera raw information and the TIFF becomes a ridiculous 100+ MB file. What's worse is that Sony's conversion software does one file at a time, and agonizingly slowly. There is no batch capability. Hopefully Adobe will come up with something that will let me edit the RX100s ARW camera raw files in Photoshop.

Happy with Camera, but not Sony
The reviews promise a great camera, and that's exactly what you get. But with the new release from Sony there is the same old waiting list for accessories.....and this is where Sony misses the mark. When we purchase a camera, we plan to use it. But we also need batteries, LCD Protectors, Chargers, Cases, and something other than a wrist strap. It was the same with my A77. Sony just doesn't appear to understand what photographers really need....and that it's more than a camera. And for this reason, I only give this item 4 stars. Make accessories readily available when YOU release the camera!

Are images as good as Canon G-11 or G-12
The Sony DSC-RX100 easily fits in a top shirt pocket and therefore it is readily usable. I would have preferred if Sony had a movable screen like the Canon G-12. The panorama option is neat, but the resolution does not look as good as would be available with connecting several individual pictures after they are captured.

Action and Traction!
I have not begun to learn all this camera offers . At this point I love the efficiency and intuitive action as you use the camera. Aside from the benefits of holding something so small, it acts and feels like a much larger product. The low light feature is especially nice. Great for traveling and I don't feel I am giving up anything. We are about to put this new camera to our ultimate test, 3 weeks on the road.

Best pocket camera on the market!
The RX100 is the best pocket camera on the market. It's small so I can carry it around all the time and have all the freatures I want in a camera (Raw, Manual mode, 1.8f lens), so it's the perfect pocket camera for me! The only bad think is that for the moment no program support there new RAW format and sony don't ship with any converter to DNG. The camera 5/5, Sony's software -/5.

Great Value for a truely pocket camera
Extremely sharp snaps of people and landscapes. Easy to blur background when shooting at 1.8. Movies also very sharp and surprise, the microphone works better than the one on my Sony Nex5N.Easy to customize function buttons but no help from the poor Manual. Must wait for Adobe to update Lightroom 4 to really use the Raw setting. Provided raw software is really basic. Had trouble printing JPEG's from Lightroom.

Sony RX-100
Finally a pocketable compact with the image quality that rivals many m4/3 cameras! Usable hi-iso, fast operation, solid build, with numerous options and features. Will it replace my SLR? No, but will definetly meet my needs when an SLR is not an absolute must.

Incredible image quality for size
Really amazing image quality for size of body. This is the camera I'd hoped the Canon S90 was but the S90 was nothing like the camera this is. Even pano sweep mode works well for me. f/1.8 is very handy, and ISO performance is amazing in a compact.

Great Camera!
I was a bit skeptical when first buying this camera, mostly for the price, but after having used it over a long weekend, where I took shots of all kinds, I'm quite impressed with the speed, clarity, and quality of this Sony camera. I'm by no means a pro, but the features of this RX100 sold me, over the more standard point and shoots I'm used to.

The best point and shoot compact camera
The RX100 is the best current point and shoot camera in terms of image quality, and honestly given the level of control available, the experienced photographer can do much more with the RX100 than just point and shoot. The f1.8 and excellent ISO performance really help here. Perhaps the best thing is that this excellent photo tool is quite pocketable.
