Love My New a7R IV ...

Oct 2, 2019

Having owned an a7R ll and an a7R lll, I can honestly say the new Mark IV is a big improvement. Overall, the camera is more ergonomic. Sony increased the size of the grip just a bit making for a more comfortable hand-holding experience. I like the new implementation of Eye AF and action tracking. The EVF has been upgraded to the point that looking through the viewfinder, almost looks as good as an optical finder. All the buttons have been upgrade... Show More

Learning curve for me, but spectacular results

Oct 2, 2019

Moving from decades in Nikon land to Sony has proven somewhat of a challenge but after about two weeks I think I am getting the hang of the EVF and menus. Still, straight out of the box, the results were spectacular. I've never had a Sony camera, so I can't compare this to other cameras or versions in their line, but if you are thinking of making the switch, this camera will amaze you. Initially pared it with the Tamron 28-75 (great lens, SO sharp!) and hoping to buy the Sony 35mm F1.8 once I sell my Nikon 24-70 F2.8.

A7R4 worth the upgrade?

Sep 30, 2019

Not that much improvement over A7R3. Image quality barely noticeable. Battery drained has increased maybe due to bluetooth, comparing to A7R3. Bought it for real time video focusing.

Game changing for my workflow

Sep 28, 2019

I like to shoot with lens setting as wide opened. I like to shoot with low angles to exaggerate the poses of a model. A few year ago, with my Canon 5D mark IV, I typically kneed down or lied on the floor using optical view finder to take the shot. I like to shoot movements, I have to use the back-bottom focus because of the focus system cannot keep up. With my Sony A7RIII, I relied on the back screen using eye-focus and moving the focus point to ... Show More

Now-More-Versatile High-Megapixel Powerhouse

Sep 27, 2019

This camera does what I need it to do: provides me with much better cropability when I need it that does not visibly degrade the image, and gives me better auto-focus & tracking capabilities than the A7R3t, all while providing me with better ergonomics. I can understand power-users' complaints of buffering issues, but hey, 61MP will DO that. As an average user, I am more than satisfied with this new evolution. While many will nit-pick this camera to death, remember that the perfect is the enemy of the VERY ,VERY GOOD.

Sony's BEST yet!

Sep 27, 2019

So many times with other Sony cameras the exposures were blown out as I had not noticed that the compensation dial on a corner of the camera had moved unintentionally. Sony has fixed this with a lock on the knob. Great news! Everything about this camera is an upgrade and of course 61 beautiful megapixels and excellent vibrant color! I love it.

The best camera I have owned

Sep 27, 2019

I am mostly into shooting landscapes and still lives. The large file she makes the camera less ideal for sports/action, but not too bad really even for that. I shoot raw and the files can be processed in Lightroom, Capture One, Sony's own software and others. The button location and weather sealing is said to be improved. Seems solid to me. Dual card slots. The menus take some adjustment to but they are gradually being improved. The focusing is amazing.

Greater than expected

Sep 26, 2019

This camera has definitely given me back my photographic spark. The image quality is superb and the build is excellent. I am still getting use to it in studio because it is a little slow on the firing but I only did one shoot so I will see if I just get use to it. Other than that I think I am going to be a Sony fan for a while.

Coming from Canon 5D IV

Sep 26, 2019

I just switched to the Sony system given that the Sony bodies are multiple generations ahead of Canon at this point. The Sony glass has finally gotten to a point where it's a usable ecosystem as well. I am amazed at the results that IBIS and the increased dynamic range from the A7R IV produce vs my 5D IV. I can expose for the highlights and boost the shadows for DAYS before they start to look unnatural. The menu system is a little clunky but I fe... Show More

Sep 26, 2019

The 7riv is a great camera. If you already own the 7riii. I can't find any reason to buy the 7riv. Unless $3500. is burning a hole in your pocket. If I had this to do over, I would wait for the next upgrade to come out. In printing 17x25 can't see any improvement in detail. In shooting with the 7riv, the buffering with long exposers is slow going!!! Thanks

Focusing, not pixel count, is the real breakthrough

Sep 26, 2019

After using both Nikons and Canons I switched to Sony to lose weight while hiking. This is my 4th Sony A7r and each improved on the previous model. (the first was primitive). While having a lot of pixels is great when cropping is desired, the big change is with the autofocus. The people or animal eye focus is amazing. But, the tracking-expand flexible spot is a game changer. The camera is new in my hands, but so far the flexible spot sticks to th... Show More

Sony knocks it out of the park (again)!

Sep 26, 2019

I was delighted with II, thrilled with III, and astounded with Mark IV. No complaints of any kind, even with the menu system (which is customizable for special needs). Yes, you need big, fast SD cards and a fast computer to process the large files. A point with respect to specs: the published px count is 9504 x 6336 = 60.2 Mpx, which is what you get when shooting jpg. Shooting ARW (raw) gives you files that are 9600 x 6376 = 61.2 Mpx. The 16-frame pixel-shift feature yields files that are 4 times larger and resolution that is unprecedented in a camera of this size and price.

Wow! Just in time for Fall Foliage!

Sep 24, 2019

Upgrading from A7R ii to A7R iv has been a delight. See the camera's remarkable reviews for the details. One landscape photographer's personal highlights: Focusing - perfect flower close ups. Usability - quite a noticeable improvement, especially when shooting in the field. Cropping - 61 MP = *great* workflow. Color - rendering on MBP/LG Ultrafine display is an inspiration. The much reported downsides: menus & touch screen. Attached *snapshot*, taken Sony's FE4/24-105 G lens, highlights focus, color, bokeh.

More than the sum of its parts

Sep 20, 2019

Ignore the detractors who whine about no one needing a camera with 61MP. The A7R IV is likely the best camera at the price available today. The R IV exhibits outstanding resolving power when matched with GM glass and the ergonomics are significantly improved over the R III. The killer feature for me though is the 29MP APS C crop mode. Ive set custom button C1 to toggle crop on and off. My 135mm 1.8 GM becomes a 200mm 1.8 instantly without taking my eye from the viewfinder. All in all the R IV is more than the sum of its parts and fully justifies the price of entry.
