Great full frame camera

Jul 21, 2016

Having moved from a DSLR to a full frame mirrorless Sony has been a very good move. The quality of the images, ease of use, EVF, all of the new technology are what help me make the move.

I really like this camera, and would buy it again

Jul 5, 2016

I am an amateur photographer who has used SLRs and DSLRs for years on and off. I currently have a high end DSLR which is terrific, but the Sony a7 II has such an advantage in size that i am a convert to it. It has a very solid 'well built' feel and gives great results.

May have received a PAL default model

Sharing my experience (for about 2 weeks and in comparison to the Canon 5D Mark III) Pros: - Very lightweight - Image quality seems a bit cleaner and sharper (Using Uncompressed RAW - Even though smaller in size, it feels ergonomic for large hands - Auto Focus is fast, although I'm not sure if that's due to the body or the lens (Sony FE 24-240mm f/3.5-6.3 OSS Lens) - Like the option to turn on and off the Setting Effect for Live View as I switch ... exactly the camera i've been waiting for

Jun 8, 2016

Having several M-mount lenses, this is the camera I've been waiting for. The picture quality is excellent. I like the small size. I also like the versatility of lenses I can mount on it. Much has been said about this camera so I have nothing new to add except that Im very satisfied.

Perfect

May 7, 2016

Man, I love this camera. Wished for a touch screen at first, but I got over that real quick. Everything visible through the viewfinder, shooting in manual is easy. Thumb and forefinger land right on the wheels. Menu layout is logical, assignable buttons, built-in stabilization, the whole package is a winner. Wifi setup requires a few steps, I have an iPhone. I'm told it's more droid-friendly. Kit lens is actually pretty good, definitely fine for outdoors. Wish they'd offer a 2.8 kit option.

Great Camera for versatile works

Using it for almost a year now, for small events, concerts and studio photography. Really love the lightweight so I able to carry it all the time (in Passport Sling III and even in StreamLine 250 at the main pocket) I bought with the kit lens, for family and traveling used, and it not as bad as you read online it has decent sharpness, contrast and clarity. Like the option to use some old FD lenses and also EOS lenses with adapters. The On Sensor ... Show More

Sony Menus and Customization

May 3, 2016

Before buying I read a lot of reviews that criticized the Sony menu system. While I may agree with them, I find that after I customized the function buttons to my taste and gotten familiar with the FN menu, the camera is quite easy to use and is very responsive. The focus zoom and focus peaking features really open up the usability of manual focus lenses. Oh yes, battery life is disappointing.

I love this camera!

Apr 30, 2016

I absolutely love this camera. I upgraded to a7II from a Canon APS-C and I am very happy with a7II. The image quality is great and in-body image stabilization is amazing. The EVF is quite good. Auto focus is quick. The 28-70mm lens is compact and light. Center sharpness of 28-70mm is good. Edge isn't very sharp when wide open, but is reasonably good when stopped down. For a $300 kit lens, I am satisfied. Since it's a Sony E-mount, I can adapt oth... Show More

Good enough

Apr 18, 2016

Coming from a Canon 5DII, I'll say the A7II is good enough as a FF camera, fantastic as a walkabout camera and good overall. I did not need the crazy amount of pixels on the A7RII, drooled after the Low ISO capabilities of the A7SII, but could not justify the premium charged over the A7II for either, and I'm happy with my purchase after 4 months with it. Dynamic range is fantastic and I seldom if not never find myself in any situation requiring m... Show More

Great for Traveling

Apr 6, 2016

This camera was the perfect alternative to my Canon 5D Mark II for my recent travels. It's more lightweight which makes it great for hikes or on-the-go photos. It's great for beginners so my friends were able to learn how to adjust settings on their own. It's also great for lowlight situations since the ISO goes so high; however, just be warned it'll get very, very grainy. The focus isn't the best when the aperture is low, so you'll need to have a good eye. And as everyone else mentioned, battery life is poor, so have a back-up or a portable charger.

Very disappointed

Apr 4, 2016

Beware the short battery life of this camera! I read the reviews before buying but failed to heed the warnings. So...I'm just back from a three week trip where I shot far fewer frames than usual but needed THREE batteries to make it through a day. Image quality is great, the camera is small and lightweight, and I love that it's full frame, but this is not a good camera for any extended shooting situations as for travel, hiking, anywhere you want more than an hour or two of shooting without running out of juice.

Building out a nice kit is really expensive

Mar 27, 2016

I'll start with the good: the smaller size is nice (although it weighs about as much as a 6d), and I like the control layout (very much a preference). All the customizable buttons at your fingertips and the 3 wheels gives a ton of control options. Plus I'm a big fan of dedicated exposure comp dials. Also I had no problem with the automatic switching between the EVF and the screen. The battery life is definitely worse than a DSLR but this wasn't a... Show More

Worth every penny.

Mar 13, 2016

I've only had the camera for about two weeks but love it so far. I moved up from an A6000 so I am used to the similar camera set up. So far j haven't found any real down sides. Light weight, focuses well, great image quality, great raw files. Would of course recommend this camera and any cameras of the A7 range. Also the kit lens is a bargain! The difference in price for the body and the kit is so small. You would have to pay $900+ for another lens (of course great glass) but it's great bargain to have this lens.

Nice Upgrade

Mar 10, 2016

This is a very nice upgrade from my A700. The sharpness, color and dynamic range of the image are really blowing me away. I do miss the ergonomics of the A700 but I feel programming the buttons may solve this problem when I get around to it. There is a bit of a learning curve. The kit lens surprised me with it's sharpness considering some of the reviews. The only thing I miss with it is the range I had using a Tamron 18-270 PFD with the older cam... Show More

Mar 6, 2016

I don't understand why did they decide to remove the pop up crash from the camera. I use it as a fill flash as a complement. For shadows under eyes and nose. The a6 had it so I didn't even think this camera wouldn't. So expensive and hey didn't keep the flash I just don't like that at all. I even want to change it. It feels incomplete

Poorly built, Sony warranty is a sham

Mar 3, 2016

I use this for photographing science research. After about 7 months of ownership (and not much use) it started having error. Sony had me send it to their repair agent, Precision Camera. It was returned saying, unrepairable: corrosion damage. Now it is an 1700 brick. Sony built a cheap camera that is no where near the ruggedness of Canon or Nikon, yet is being sold as a professional camera. As well, Sony is trying to shirk its supposed warranty. I... Show More

nice camera for non-professionals

I am not a professional photographer, I take pictures only for my family and friends. I bought this camera hoping to replace my D800, which is a great camera but is just slowing me down everywhere since it is too heavy. If you are a professional photographer, then weight should probably never be a concern for you, but for me, weight and size of the gears matter. Superb camera for all kinds of photography

A Pleasant Surprise

Feb 26, 2016

I never saw a need to upgrade from my A7 to the mark II version, but when the A7 got destroyed in an accident and I ordered the A7II as a replacement I got a pleasant surprise. The uncompressed RAW format (I had to upgrade the firmware for that; download from the Sony site) may give only a slightly better dynamic range, but it minimizes the halos between strong light/dark edges to almost nonexistent, which is a big timesaver in PP. And although I... Show More
