Terrible rolling shutter
A friend suggested I get this camera to be able to shoot 4K videos for our YouTube channel. I used it to take a few pictures and found it good. I'm not a photographer, but the images were nice and sharp. I started trying to use it for video and spent 3 hours messing around with all the settings to attempt to get usable video. In 1080p and in 4k, I could not get usable video if the camera was panning at all. Even movement of onscreen talent looked... Show More

First mirrorless camera and an incredible tool
This camera replaces my Nikon D7000 that I've been using primarily for travel photography. The 6500 is a terrific replacement as it is much smaller and lighter and the quality of the pictures is phenomenal! The attached HDR photo was 5frames at .7 exposure variation and processed with Photomatix Pro HDR software (the top was photoshopped to provide adequate spacing for a large canvas wrap print).

Amazing camera for video work AND photo
This camera is not perfect. But it comes close to it for my needs. I'm a videographer who also likes to take dope photos casually. I'd say 70% video and 30% photo. I love the 6K APS-C sensor. For video, 4K is super crisp. I love the lowlight performance. I do 4K 24p 100mb with shutter speed at 1/50 and a fast lens like 35mm f1.8. It looks amazing. No need to worry about noise. Plus I have NeatVideo denoiser, so I'm pretty much bullet proof even i... Show More

Great except rear screen
Doesn't get 5 stars because screen is horrible! Can't see anything in daylight. Other then that, great camera. I wish the touch focus was more like that on the GH4.

A lot of camera in a small package.
I have been showing with Sony cameras for a number of years. I have the a7r and a a6000. Both cameras have served me well for different reasons. Why did I buy the a6500? Not in any particular order, 1. the more advanced auto focus, 2. the size of the buffer, 3. in camera image stabilization, 4. eye autofocus, 5. 4K video, 6. touch screen focus, and 7. silent shutter. As with the a6000 the smaller form factor. With the form factor and silent shutt... Show More

Easy to use mirrorless camera
Very light weight camera, easy to use and takes great photos. I'm not a huge fan of the Sony app for transferring photos to my computer or device through bluetooth, but transferring with a USB wire is easy. I love the camera package and the lenses offer a huge range for photos.

Outstanding camera - loaded with options!
So much is written and many high praises for the Sony ILCE-6500 that it is a bit overwhelming. I will keep this review focused on my personal experience only. Using 4/18-105 lens To begin with, the camera is incredibly loaded with options and features. I purchased David Busch's Sony a6500 400 page book released in April 2017. Reading this book and watching the many Youtube videos can overwhelm you in the camera's sophistication and options availa... Show More

Lovely Camera/IBIS Issue***
This is a beauty of a camera. It has S-Log2 and 3 and if you're not good with these profiles it offers other camera profiles as well. It's an APS-C sensor camera, but it's more than enough to get the job done. Had one issue with the IBIS with this camera, sent it back to B&H for an exchange so I'm hoping the issues are worked out with this model. Other than that it's a beauty of a camera!

Great upgrade, super autofocus, very good auto-mode.
Wow! Upgraded from an A6000. What a difference! Super quick and reliable autofocus, auto-mode for quick point-and-shoot is really good, as is sports mode, which I use when I'm lazy. Still have to get the lay of the land on all the other functions, and make the camera my own with shortcuts and more but so far so good. I'm really impressed by the improvements Sony made. Very happy camper, it's almost like my lenses got a new lease on life :)

Great camera
I bought the Sony a6500 to be a second camera, but the more I use it, the more I like it. It has powerful and extensive features. It has lived up to my high expectations based on all the positive reviews I read. It is great as both a still and a video camera.

Nice camera
Pretty good camera. I like that it's a little smaller and lighter weight than a DSLR while still having a viewfinder along with full manual and automatic modes.

Nothing like Sony
I was hardcore Canon user. Added Sony a6500 to my gear for video purposes. I find it amazing. AF is fast and accurate. Sony lenses like 35mm 1.8 are great for videos and portraits, Bought metabones V5 adapter to use my canon and tamron lenses on it. all working amazing.

The best Apsc at the moment

Only had this a week but so far living up to expectations
I travel and hike a lot with my camera kit and looking for a lighter option than my Canon 7D and lenses. So far the a6500 is performing very well with the Sony 16-70 f/4 Zeis lens and the gear is very much lighter giving comparable results to the Sigma 17-70 that I have used for years with the Canon. The picture quality so far is brilliant. The menu system takes a bit of learning but I am getting there. Unfortunately the Canon Speedlight 580 II i... Show More

From A6000 To A6500
This review is not about the major obvious benefits you find in a spec sheet such as stabilization in the body, silent shutter, and great 4k video. Its about the little things that matter such as the eye cup. Its softer, prevents your eyelashes from touching the EVF and best of all, it's more secure. I did not have to buy replacements from those times I went hiking and slung it over my shoulder or at those parties when you're bumping bodies. Its ... Show More

A6500 review
Amazing camera! Can't beat the price for it! Shot a wedding video with the a6500 and just having the 5-axis in body stabilization I shot a lot of handheld shots but maintain the shot to be steady!

Happy camper
I was a Sony a7rII owner for about a year and started feeling that what I wanted was what the a6500 offers better video and focus features, cropped sensor (smaller files) and overall faster action response. So I sold the a7rII and got this. I am so happy. The camera is super compact and in terms of video features I am so excited. a7rII video stabilization is out of this world and I wasn't expecting that in the a6500, but it is good and if you kno... What an APS-C camera should be.
I bought this moving from a Nikon D7100. I wanted something more compact for a daily shooter that would be much less bulky (The D7100 is the same size as Nikon's full frame D610). I picked this up on a deal with an included 16-55 and 50-200. I really put it to the test last week doing a pro shoot with a 5 year old kid playing with his mother. The AF is as fast as they say and I nailed a bunch of great shots for the client. The only downside to th... Show More

I'd buy the a6500 again with one BIG request
As an a7RII owner, I wanted a second Sony body but with a cropped sensor for my telephoto lenses. I debated as to whether the extra $$ for the a6500 over the a6300 was worth it and eventually decided upon the a6500. Most of my lenses have stabilization so the internal 5-axis stabilization wasn't a strong driver. My Tamron, Sony A and Canon EF lenses work flawlessly with the appropriate adapters. Very fast focusing. A few minor things pushed me tow... Show More

deceptively small
Prior to this camera, I had been using a Canon 70D. I mainly got this camera for full 1080 slo-motion, but quickly discovered just how good photos were. The difference in image quality between my 70D and a6500 was drastic. I have yet to fully explore all the functions of this camera, but can easily say that it is way more powerful than one might think given it's small size. The top big cons (as others have said) are battery life and lack of flip-... Show More

The best APS-C Camera in the world
This is the best camera choice I have ever made. Incredible 4k, great images, great inbuilt stabilizer, good low light performance, solid body, super shutter cycle and.....well...yes...... there are always things to criticise about but I think I have decided to declare Sony a6500 'The best super 35mm camera in the world'
