Mixed feelings

Jan 5, 2015

Use the Cannon 5D full frame sensor and it has ruined me. All else looks bad. But it's big and expensive and not always with me. So I carried that or my iPhone. I LOVED MY iPhone. Until I didn't. Noticed that it wasn't that great in low light. Blur. No controls. It's great until you wish you had that shot that could have been good had the camera been a little nicer. So sort of on the hunt for something that'd fit in my small purse, could be a lit... Show More

I'm liking this one - Thanks, Sony!

Nov 30, 2014

Look for my review of the RX100m2. This version is better, in my opinion, except for the changes in lens design do 2 things I don't like as much: A The wider aspect is less POV Friendly if that makes sense. The m2 had a certain perfect focal length to it that made its wide end perfect for 1st person views of, say, walking in forest, driving POV, and for aerial work. While it is not bad per se, I find to get the same vibe I have to zoom in a littl... Show More

WHERE I'M COMING FROMI would describe myself as an advanced beginner and (I confess) a pixel peeper. I was looking for a small camera that I can tuck into my purse when it's not practical to bring my Canon 70D for everyday still shots. I had picked up a used Canon PowerShot SX260 compact camera for this purpose; however, certain manual features (for example, focusing manually, setting a specific focus point, or locking exposure to recompose a sil... Great Image Quality, Futzy Handling

Mar 31, 2015

I bought this camera a a general carry-around camera and to use in a dive housing while sea kayaking. I write for a kayaking magazine and need pictures taken on the water. While I love the image quality -- much better than the Nikon AW1 I used last year -- there are a few things about the handling that really bugs me: * The histogram disappears from the screen when using exposure compensation. I use the ETTR method of exposure and really need to ... Show More

This Was The Right Camera For Me

Feb 11, 2015

Sony RX100m3: was it the right camera for me?. I was considering buying the Sony RX100m3, but first I needed to decide what my basic requirements for a new camera were? Would the RX100m3 do the job? My answer turned out to be yes. So what was I looking for? What was on my list of requirements? For me it ... - had to have a fast, sharp, superiority quality, zoom lens - f2.8 or faster at all lengths. - had to have a sensor big enough to capture and... Show More

Great Little Camera

Sep 18, 2014

I use it as a pocket point-and-shoot, when I don't want to (or can't) lug around my DSLR. For that, it's an excellent performer. I typically leave it in automatic mode...I don't care about it's DOF, and I don't try anything artistic with it (i.e. macro or long exposure). I use it mostly for traveling and hiking because it takes up no backpack space. If I were to encounter a photogenic opportunity while hiking, as long as the subject is not too fa... Show More

Amazing camera but with some issues

Aug 15, 2014

I'm an advanced amateur. I bought the RX100 III because I wanted a small form-factor camera that produces high quality images. I considered the Fuji x100s but it was too big to fit in my pocket and was limited to a single focal length. The image sharpness of the RX100 III is amazing and is everything I had hoped for in the camera. The sharpness rivals my DSLR. The quality of the video is equally as good. The low light capabilities of the camera i... Show More

Excellent Pocket Camera

Feb 2, 2015

I have loved the Panasonic LX series cameras and have owned the LX3, 5 and 7. I wanted to replace the LX7 with the LX100, but was on the fence. I wanted an excellent everyday pocket camera. After handling the lX100 and couple of times I felt that it didn't truly replace the other LX cameras. I understand the advancements that camera offers, but ultimately, it's not a pocket camera. There were too many compromises to be made for a pocket camera. W... Show More

I've owned a number of compact cameras, including the original RX100. I wasn't willing to hang on to that one because I didn't love the output (partially related to the lens) and the handling. The mk3 is, I think, enough to make me finally retire my Olympus e-pm2 as my go-to compact. The 2 standout upgrades with the mk3 are the lens and the viewfinder. The lens is obviously faster (albeit with less range) than its predecessor, but it certainly see... Show More

Extremely Satisfying

Jul 18, 2014

The specs of this camera are well documented so I will write about specifics of what I like (and don't) in my specific use of the camera.LOVE:1. Electronic Viewfinder. I grew up on (D)SLRs, and the EVF on this camera gives that same feeling of more accurate framing and composition. The EVF was the number one reason for upgrading from the original RX100, and I would likely have made the move for that alone. Also, I feel that steadying the camera a... Show More

Bought the camera for traveling and using as a more sophisticated point and shoot with manual capabilities. Pros: Loved the small, compact size and weight of the camera. It was easy to learn and operate. Appreciated having a viewfinder, the image quality and good image stabilization. One of the best things this camera does is take excellent night shots. Some negatives: Considering the price - the plastic tabs you open to connect the battery are c... Show More

Just What I've Been Looking For

Jul 6, 2014

I had been searching for a small, pocketable, Point-&-Shoot camera to supplement for my Nikon D7000 (with 17-55/f2.8 and 70-200/f4 lenses) when I can't, or don't want to, take out the heavy gear. For close to a year, I didn't pull the trigger on several competitors' offerings, including Sony's previous RX100 models, because either the lens quality/speed did not meet my standards, my need for a quality built-in finder in addition to the LCD screen... After One Year of use

Dec 25, 2015

I have carried this camera with me constantly for one year, Other than my scratching the LCD from my sometimes carrying it in less than ideal circumstances, it's held up nicely. When I first got this camera I hated the menus. HATED them. Then as I became used to it, and granted this took some time, I'm amazed by what I can do with it. I mostly use manual but if I need a fast shot the automatic features are great. The video is to die for with seve... Show More

I work as a pro shooter using large bodied DSLRs. When i'm out and about i love having a compact camera with more flexibilty than a smartphone. I look for compact near-pocket size, fast zoom thru the entire range, RAW capabilty, HD video. But after owning a compact with no eye level finder, a camera with an add on finder that was lost and replaced, and one with an optical finder that was woefully inaccurate, i swore my next compact would have a b... RX100 III, great improvement from M II

Jul 9, 2014

I am a professional photographer. My usual kit is a Canon EOS 5D M III with quite a few lenses. This gets to be heavy but is what I need to get the shots I need routinely. However, there are times when I want a camera with me but don't want to cart the full kit around, for example, on a motorcycle ride. I send my photos to a stock agency and they require a minimum file size which most point-and-shoot cameras don't meet. So advantage number one of... Show More

Incredible pocket-power

I own a Canon 5D3 with several L-glass and use that primarily along with the Sony RX1R. Sometimes I only travel with the RX1R and leave the DSLR behind, it's image quality is incredible, certainly on par with the 5D3 and a premium lens, given the pairing of the Zeiss 35mm f/2.0. I bought the RX100 III to supplement travel, and make sure I always had something that was incredibly capable with excellent IQ. I've tried other point and shoots in the ... Show More

I have been using the first version of the RX100 for quite a while now and love the pictures. Because of it's size, I've been able to get shots I normally wouldn't because I had the camera with me. I skipped the second generation because a flip screen wasn't on my list of priorities. The third model with the viewfinder really made me change my mind. Great small camera

I'm very pleased with this camera, most particularly it's ability to automatically merge multiple exposures to obtain an HDR image. That's a need I had and is the principal reason I was shopping for a new camera. I did not shop DSLR cameras. For my uses a larger, heavier camera is too unpleasant to carry. This camera is very small & light for such a capable camera. I wish this camera had a longer zoom - the short maximum zoom caused hesitation in... Show More

Great improvements and a few sacrifices

Aug 4, 2014

Having been on the trail of the most compact pro-sumer P&S camera for decades, I'm glad Sony upgraded their RX100 model. I had version 1, which took stunning images and had excellent versatility in low-light condition, although with some noise at higher ISO settings. This camera has improved low-light capacity, but I find getting the settings right is a little slower than before. lens distortion

Jan 11, 2015

I all ready own the RX100 II, so I know how good this little baby should be. First problem is the integral lens cap won't reliably open fully, leaving blacked out corners on your shots. If you use your fingernail very carefully, you can get it open without a fingerprint on the lens, if you remember. I am sending this one back. Three things that make this camera nearl

Dec 22, 2014

In addition to the many features this camera has that have received high reviews, several things in particular make this camera perfect for me: -- Near-SLR picture quality from a small camera. When I take pictures with the Sony RX 100 III and review them later, I never say to myself, I wish I would have taken my SLR. I used to say that a lot when I'd take pictures with lesser point-and-shoot cameras. -- I love the fact that the camera collapses t... Show More
