Ideal choice--Meets all my needs
A few weeks ago, I attended a Sun City Center Photo club class on Buying a New Camera. Our instructor discussed: Size, features, usage, dollars to spend, and where to buy. Using this as a guide, I researched various brands and models. The Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS50 fulfilled my needs. I wanted a camera for travel The Panasonic ZS50 is the ideal size, complexity and quality for me. This week, I took another course on Camera Settings and learned that my Panasonic ZS50 had all the highlighted features. I have recommended this camera to my sister/travel companion.

Great little package!
I have a larger DSLR for use when not traveling that takes wonderful photos. However, I needed a compact P&S to take on vacation this summer that didn't take up much space or was very heavy. Research showed me the way to this little Lumix. As of right now, I'm thrilled with it's size, the quality of the photos and the large zoom that's packed into the little package. Am still working out shooting in lowlight situations, but so far, am very pleased with the results. I think I've gotten a winner and will get some great shots in Italy this summer.

I would buy this camera again
This camera had all the features I required and the price was reasonable. First requirement was a viewfinder. If you've ever tried to use a camera of this type w/o a viewfinder outdoors on a sunny day, you will know what I mean. The viewfinder is located in a slightly awkward place which is one of the reasons I dinged the rating. The main reason I dinged the camera is because of the manual and the lack of useful content. In the end, I quit using the manual and I just go on line to find information about finding and using features of the camera.

Perfect pocket camera
I bought this camera because I was tired of carrying around my dSLR just in case a photo op presented itself. Naturally the image quality isn't up to professional standards but good enough for sharing and posting and making prints to 8x10 or so.VR is very good as I've handheld at 600 to 720mm and got acceptable results.Noise is a factor. I try not to shoot above 400 ISO. Shoots in RAW which is a plus for me.Video works great even handheld. For a $ camera I'm happy. Would rather have a shorter tele with better image quality, 24 to 400mm

Great buy!
Nice camera. I bought it for travel & I love it. Excellent value for the $. Can't tell from new. Only difference is the plain brown box it came in. So far I'm very pleased with the images, nice & impressively sharp. I also love the RAW capability where the value (to me) is in the cleaner images (meaning no jpeg artifacts). Professional reviews state that RAW images don't contain much more shadow or highlight detail than out-of-camera jpegs, and they're right. I just prefer the look of processed RAW files more than the jpeg output.

It's great, but good luck figuring out the wifi
I'd give this camera five stars because it's awesome, but the Lumix customer service is horrific. Figuring out how to connect the camera to your online apps is incredibly difficult. You're supposed to join the Lumix Club, which seems more shrouded than the Illuminati. After an hour of trying to find some customer service contact info, you'll be rewarded with a snotty reply email stating that's not the kind of support they provide. In short, buy this camera because it's awesome, but beware: you're on your own to figure it out.

LCD Failed two days after receiving camera
Received the camera on a Thursday, checked it out, charged the battery and everything seemed great with it. Two days later at a special event I took it out to take some photos and the LCD had failed. It had splotches and streaks in it and was unusable. I could still use the viewfinder but the LCD was unusable for setup and menu items. The camera had not been dropped or mishandled in any way. All of my previous point and shoot cameras had been Sony products. I thought I'd try something different this time. What a mistake!

Great Camera!
This small, lightweight camera has a long lens that can really bring in those far away objects, birds, flowers, trees, etc. It also has WiFi built in along with a GPS so you always know where your pictures were taken. You can operate it in fully automatic mode and get great photos or you can get creative and go to full manual to make photos look the way you want, i.e. stop action, blurred background, etc. This is a very nice camera for someone who wants good pictures but doesn't want to carry or learn how to use a DSLR.

Great point and shoot - terrible software
So far camera takes great pictures. Love the big zoom. Lots of features that are helpful and not obvious until you read the manual. On P with auto ISO it does not provide high ISO and fast enough shutter in low light, so use S. The knob for moving the aperture/shutter is handy. The software, how is very poor. No useful editing features, not even cropping!! Also a complicated and useless (to me) categorizing of all the pictures on your computer. My Nikon software works to get pics from this camera, so I will use it.

Very nice when it works
I have gotten great images and video from this camera - mostly surfing shots, birds in flight, and flowers. Why only 3 stars? Because after only 10 months, it is starting to fail. There is some sort of short circuit so that moving the zoom lever activates the video instead. Previously, the diaphragm-type lens cover was balky when opening. It's still under warranty but Panasonic service is less than useless - just try contacting anyone to find out how to proceed. I'll give this camera to the kids to play with.

Great travel zoom camera, highly recommend it
This refurbished camera looks, feels and works like new with all factory accessories, documentation, etc. included. It is a wonderful travel camera with a powerful optical zoom going out to 720mm. Auto focus and auto exposure is accurate and reliable, a bit slow but only if compared to larger and more expensive bridge cameras. The view finder is small and needs getting used to if you wear glasses, but it is tack sharp and clear. Getting GPS information by employing Panasonic's smart phone Image App is easy.

Icons wear off mode selector knob after 2 weeks
Unfortunately, I had the same experience as others regarding the cheap selector knob. Most of the icons wore off within the first 2 weeks and the knob also started to have some loose play. Really poor manufacturing. I returned it to the local shop where I bought it for a cash refund. Otherwise, I really did like the camera. Wi-fi remote control function was very good as was the zoom. I just purchased the Sony hx90v from B&H and anticipate that I will have a much better experience.

Good images, a little concerned!
Got the camera JUST before 16 day trip to Scotland. Easy enough to use, but lost battery charger at first stop. Three batteries I carried were depleted WAY sooner than I expected. Even turned off large screen and used eye finder only. Also lens cover stuck once, needed a touch to fully open, never near moisture or sand, dust. Would recommend depending on needed size, etc. Four other Lumix owners on tour, none had matching batteries to use their charger. Images are OK for price.

Excellent Pocket Camera
This is my wife's primary camera. It's small enough to carry in her purse, even in a case. Considering its size, the quality of the photos are pretty amazing, as long as you don't ask for miracles. In addition to a wealth of modes, it has several nice tricks up its sleeve for good photos, including an auto-leveling function that handles reasonable tilt. The WiFi function works well and the digital view finder makes it more discreet for photography at concerts and other events.

ZS50 Rocks
I've only had the ZS-50 for a couple weeks and I'M generally pleased. This camera takes more precise pics than my other higher megapixel cameras. The processor actually blends multiple light sources and exposes the images with more distributed, blended hues. I wasn't even aware of this feature. Battery life is good, with okay flash ability. I'm still working on learning more advanced features. The robust Wi-Fi capabilities allows sending pics directly to smart TVs and phone.

Made my wife very happy
My wife asked me for a small, easy-to-use, camera with a great zoom range. This camera has delivered on all criteria. Her only unfulfilled wish was for 4K video. Now that she has seen 1080P at 60fps from this camera, she is very happy. The automatic features are very powerful and produce great photos. But the camera has a great deal of manual features to satisfy her creative needs. She loves the large depth of field provided by this sensor. I love the image stabilization.

Such Thing As Perfect?
Purchased this camera after much research. My wife and I were looking for a point-and-shoot, pocket size, reasonably priced, quality camera. We are amateur photographers but knew what we needed and wanted. This camera fills the bill. It takes amazing pictures with its auto setting, response time between takes is fast, it fits comfortably in shirt or pants pocket, and is very easy to use. Had it about a month now and love it! Of course, time will tell as to serviceability.

Effortless travel camera
While I am not a fan of super zooms my wife loves this camera. For her it always produces a usable photo. Recently we spotted some Sand Hill Cranes. After stopping the car she just leaned out the window and got her shot. She is starting to make me look bad. Highlights of this camera; the lens is amazing, she said she didn't care about a view finder but now she's using it all the time, and because it shoots raw I am able to process her photos. This is a FIVE STAR camera.

Lettering on mode dial wears off
I now have the camera for 2 months. I took it on vacation and shot 400 pictures. The camera worked well and the pictures are great. I have printed several shots and they are sharp. The largest I printed was 13 x 19. They look great. I noticed after three days of shooting, that the printing on the mode dial was coming off. I have the all black model. You can still see the mode in the screen, but at this price, the lettering should not wipe off. A major production errror.

Awesome Camera
Fantastic little camera. This is my first jump into mid-range camera, and I couldn't be happier. The electronic viewfinder is fantastic, and makes it much easier to catch shots when you are zoomed in all the way. I was looking for something that would fit in my pocket and have enough features that I could gradually take it off of autopilot and start teaching myself how to manually make adjustments when taking pictures. It looks like this will fit the bill perfectly.

Good little camera
Purchased this as a refurbished item. Must say I am pleasantly surprised. The zoom range is amazing for such a small camera. Due to the necessary small sensor the image quality is not terrific but usable. The build quality and overall feel is not equal to my other Lumix cameras, GH3, LX100, GX85 but is not bad for the price point. Great for casual trips to zoo, park, etc rather than hauling DSLR with 150-600 lens. Within its category it would be a 5 star.

Fantastic compact travel camera
Got this camera for my wife, to replace an SZ7 that died. The ZS50 has an eye-level viewfinder -- she always had a problem with the SZ7's screen in sunlight and the viewfinder makes a tremendous difference. And the long zoom is great too. All while maintaining the small, light profile that she loved on the SZ7. All in all, just about the perfect travel camera for her! (Personally I still prefer my FZ200, but for her that's big and heavy).

This thing is awesome
I have very little to complain about with this camera. For the price, it has lived past my expectations, especially when it got sand in the lens!!! The short story is that I took this overseas as my only camera when my mom passed away. I had lots to do and I wanted to document everything. For the price, the size and the flexibility, I wish I had purchased a second one! My favorite is the zoom and image stabilization. Check out my pic!

I would think again about buying.
The DMC-ZS50 Lumix is a great little camera for travel or every day personal use. The images are sharp and the zoom is good except I would not use full zoom without a tripod to steady the shot. Biggest drawback is the flash. When taking the shot, your finger tends to cover the flash. You must be careful not to block the flash with your middle finger. This makes it hard to steady the camera. I have not used the video yet so no report.
