Noise...

Mar 18, 2015

I heard so many great things about this camera, did a ton of research, and had high hopes for it! I was sadly disappointed upon testing it. There are already many notable reviews explaining the pros of the camera, so I will focus on the things that personally killed it for me. Noise. Noise everywhere, all the time. Noise at 200 iso. Noise in shadows. Probably worse noise performance than my old T3i. I didn't do any thorough testing, but I was sho... Show More

HUGE Upgrade

Feb 26, 2015

I've had this camera for about a week now and I still can't believe how much better this is than the Canon I've been using for a few years now. Obviously the 4K is great (by this time we've all seen the footage) but it's all the other features that make this camera worth it. Coming from Canon I've gotten used to shooting slowmo at 60fps in 720 so the fact that this goes up to 96fps in 1080 and actully looks good is fantastic. Also having zebras, ... Show More

Excellent Camera

Feb 23, 2015

Unlike most reviewers, we came to the GH4 from the pro video camera side, not the DSLR side. We started with the Panny HPX500 and 170, known as P2 cameras for their very expensive recording cards. For ENG style shooting, they are hard to beat. But the prime lens depth of field was very difficult to achieve so we searched for video cameras that offered that look and work flow. That lead us to the AF100s and micro four thirds lenses. I hears some c... Show More

The line between DSLRs and Cinema blur

Feb 13, 2015

Gamma curves, Cine-D and the possibility of V-log coming to the GH4 make this hands down the best sub $10k 4K camera on the market. Combined with a SmallHD DP7 and you have ALL of the tools you need for perfect exposure and film making.

Very Satisfied

Feb 12, 2015

Using it for low budget commercial use, event videos & promos. Switched over after using Canon (6D/T5i/M) for a few years & became progressively dissatisfied with Canon. The GH4 is comfortably compact, yet bursting with functionality & options. I have been so satisfied since purchasing a few months ago. Only complaint, a little too noisy with high ISOs in low light, but not unusable. Also wish the remote iOS app had a full screen preview option.

My favorite Cam

Feb 2, 2015

I have been with Panasonic since the GH2 and this is the best yet. Timelapse, SloMo, 4K, 16mp stills all from the same device! Sure the shadows are a bit noisy and in the stills mode maybe a tad more resolution would be nice, but overall it is truly a hybrid camera. I get great results in both stills and video.

Thrilled with my purchase

Jan 22, 2015

Obviously, this is probably one of the most thoroughly reviewed products out there, so I'm not sure what I can add except that the addition of 4K to my video work has been a real game changer and I love the interface and how easy the transition is from the gh3 to this one. Although the body and form factor are almost the same, I've already found a preference for using this one even when shooting in 1080HD. The menu gives me so many more useful op... Show More

Software will Downscaling 4k to 1080P

Jan 20, 2015

Just tested out the 4K resolution it is beautiful. Also don't be looking for software to downscale the 4K to 1080p, it came with the camera from Panasonic! Now I run the 4K through the panasonic software and it gives me a separate 1080 file with sharp video to place on my timeline. No need to get a new computer or software, to edit at 1080. I use my old Pinnacle 14 which I'm use to. I'll wait for 4K blu-ray burners to produce, before I upgrade.

4K is on it's Way

Jan 14, 2015

What makes this camera better than the Sony is the internal recording of 4K. But you can also add external recording via an HDMI cable and caputure larger files on actual hard drives. I am still learning and practicing with this camera after serveral months. Working to find that perfect looking image I am looking for. That's simply a personal choice, otherwise, this camera gets great overall images. I use this camera for professional video. After... Show More

Phenomenal, with some trade offs.

Jan 11, 2015

The clarity of even the 1080 on this camera is so great compared to the canon codec. 96fps is so handy... I probably overuse that feature. But I do wish I had really recognized the low light weakness of this camera before purchasing. There is a lot of noise and banding in shadows. ISO performance isn't impressive. The metabones speedbooster has helped a lot by making more light available, but I still find myself desiring better low light performa... Show More

Best camera for video PERIOD. Pair it with good lenses, a good operator and director and you're solid!! Nikon & Canon lenses all day combined with Metabones Speed Booster. 14-40mm panasonic 3.5-5.6 | 12-35mm panasonic 2.8 constant aperture (if you have the budget)

Really digging this camera

Jan 1, 2015

I own a Blackmagic and a 5D - and this GH4 is the perfect addition to the team. I'm shooting a doc so there's something to having a camera that is ready to go at the drop of a hat. It powers up SO fast. And the dial up top makes it more nimble than the 5D. Of course it would have been great if it was full size sensor but for the price and for the quality of the footage this camera is perfect.

Excellent camera, lightweight, small

Jan 1, 2015

I have sold my Canon 6D, and bought Panasonic GH4. This is a great camera. So much lighter than the 6D (if you count in the lenses too). Smaller, easier to handle, and I found that I tend to carry this camera much more often than 6D, and the best camera is the one you have with you. For me, this is superior camera for travel, it shoots very nice stills, and video... Video is GREAT. I have only 3 lenses with this one, and that is more/less enough ... Show More

Great little camera

Dec 21, 2014

Just updated from my old T3i to the GH4. Even though I haven't had enough time with it, it feels great. The small sensor is not a negative aspect if you're like me and will use it with a Metabones Speedbooster. Though it doesn't excel in low-light like the 5D mk3 or the low-light monster A7s, it's not as bad as people say it is. After working with the T3i over 2 years I was used to shoot in poorly lit places like bars and parties, using fast lens... Show More

I use this camera mainly for video, filming commercials and corporate projects.I come from Canon and decided not to abandon my 5D Mark II completely. I still keep it for stills and as a backup camera. Needless to say I don't use it much anymore. I bought the Panasonic 12-35mm and it works a charm with the GH4. So many pro features I can finally take advantage of, this is amazing, how did I manage before?I love the 4K, the slowmo (96fps) and small... Show More

One of the best

Dec 15, 2014

Already owned the GH3. Am not shooting video mainly stills and i bought this because of the improved AF, Viewfinder/LCD and Focus Peaking. Loved the GH3. This now even better. I believe this to be one of the best handling cameras on the planet. Everything is on the right place. I own a Canon5dMk3 and a 6 D as well as a D800 and take this one over the other 3 90% of the time.

I use this camera specfically for video and find it to be quite an amazing camera. Actually, the most amazing camera I own. The plus side is that it does timelapse in-camera and creates the video in minutes (it also stores the raw files in case you want to go back and edit them and make your own timelapse). The battery life is unbelievably good.

The GH4 is definitely a step in the right direction. The quality of 4K and slow-motion footage is outstanding - while keeping file sizes reasonable. The addition of built-in time-lapse and high-bitrate variable framerate is a big plus. The ability to use a wide variety of lenses makes it a very flexible platform and the wireless features make remote control a snap.

Wow, this is an amazing video camera. Here's what I love1) Internal cinema 4K. Really can't beat that at this price range.2) 96 fps slow motion (in 1080). The slow motion out of this camera is stunning.3) Pretty high bit rates. 100 mbps is not bad. Saves space but doesn't skimp too much on image quality. Plus it does 10-bit into an external recorder (8-bit internal) but I haven't tested that out yet.4) It's super easy to use. Menus make sense, th... Show More
