Best Budget Film Camera Out There
This is one of the best budget filmmaking tools out there. I recommend purchasing a guide to learn how to use this camera to its full potential (i.e. Caleb Pike from DSLR Video Shooter's GH4 guide). I use it for event videography as well as short doc-style films. When comparing this to the Sony A7 series, the only downside of this camera is the micro four thirds, which makes it way worse in low-light. Another thing to think about if you shoot in ... Show More

Great Camera - Unbeatable for the $$$
The GH4 shoots excellent 4k and HD video. There are tons of options in the menus. I've mostly been testing the various modes/resolutions/bitrates, etc. I haven't used it in the field. I was a Canon user, but I have been swayed. The build is solid. The touch screen is nice and responsive. It's pretty much everything I expected. For the money, it is probably the best option. 4k crops a bit more than HD on the sensor. And rolling shutter is pretty e... Show More

Thrilled with my purchase
Obviously, this is probably one of the most thoroughly reviewed products out there, so I'm not sure what I can add except that the addition of 4K to my video work has been a real game changer and I love the interface and how easy the transition is from the gh3 to this one. Although the body and form factor are almost the same, I've already found a preference for using this one even when shooting in 1080HD. The menu gives me so many more useful op... Show More

AWESOME ADDITION
Right out of the box I was able to get some great shots off. We own the Panasonic AF-100 and have been very happy with it; but as documentary filmmakers, we needed something a bit more stealthy to blend in with the crowd. I'm still in the learning curve on this one, but so far I've experienced excellent video in 4k and HD and awesome photos as well. If there's one drawback, (the reason for only 4 stars) it's the software necessary to get your foo... Show More

Flash issues
I had this camera for two months and loved it. Until I decided to take pictures last weekend for a wedding. At dark setting, while on manual mode the flash fired even when it was at close position and emitting a terrible burning smell. I tried switching to electronic shutter and the problem goes away. But as soon I go back to mechanical shutter, the problems comes back. It's unfortunate, I am no longer eligible for exchange since it's past 30 day... Show More

Best Camera
If your looking for a good camera this is the one. this camera takes good pictures but even better video. It can show cinema 4K very high quality video. This camera is great for all levels of users, although takes sometime to get use to all the setting and feature this camera offers but any camera does. Definitely wouldn't hesitate to buy its worth every penny. It has really good battery life and can go a whole day shooting on one battery pretty much. I have attached a video so you can see the video quality of this camera but the entire video was not shot with this camera but most of it was.

Really Nice Camera
I am very pleased with the GH4's performance. When used correctly this camera produces some very nice images. I also own the GH1 and GH2 cameras and still use them often. The GH4 has its own look and is complimentary to my two other cameras. Fortunately, I found the correct combination of proper in camera settings, lenses, lighting, framing and post production which make the GH4 shine. I would recommend this camera if you are willing to take some time and learn to bring out its full potential. Also, purchasing camera equipmentfor many years from B&H has always given me quality products.

Gets better every time ...
This dynamite in a small package gets better every time I switch it on ! Small form factor , 96fps, extreme battery life , oh - and the 4K is unreal. This is an investment I will never regret. A little odd to remove the battery grip when changing the body battery - but hot swap in the grip pretty much takes care of that. Sony wireless mics direct into the cam & audio is perfect. Peaking is wonderful. Live , full HD output for external monitor works great. MetaBones SpeedBooster allows me to use all my Canon glass. Please let somebody unlock the puzzle of Autofocus thru the MetaBones !!!

4K for $, Swiss army knife of DLSRs
Yes its not a DSLR its mirrorless. BH only gave me so much space for the title. This camera is great for users who want a compact and long battery life camera that gives you crazy options for output. 4K no problem. PAL or NTSC no problem. SloMo no problem. I use this camera with a metabones Speedbooster and love the look it achieves when combined with my old Nikon primes and the Sigma ART 18-35mm 1.8. As a former GH2 user I can say I'm very pleased with the changes Panasonic has made. The color science is greatly improved as well as the menus. They are much more understandable now.

Love this Camera!
I am a professional wedding filmmaker. I use this camera professionally for video production and it's an amazing tool! With all the new features, 4K, Variable frame rate, zebra, peaking, swivel screen and it's amazing image quality, it's a no brainier. Our main cameras are Canon 5DMK3's and they are amazing tools, but the GH4, just brings additional production value to our current tool set. The only thing I am getting accustomed too is having to reset settings when the camera shuts off, that is the only con that I have with the camera. It turns on quickly and has many advantages!

A great tool at a good price.
I bought the Lumix GH4 mainly for the 4K video. I have been learning it for 2 months now and testing it with my Canon 5D mkIII. Although the menu is complex, the camera is capable of many things. In addition to 4K video it can do beautiful slow motion (96fps 24P) and the custom mode dial, C1, 2, and 3, allows you to set different ways of recording so you can quickly change settings on the fly to never miss a shot. The touch screen has many helpful short cuts for histogram, zebra and peak focusing so you don't have to go into the extensive menu to turn these tools on and off.

AMAZING camera. Well done, Panasonic.
I use DSLR's primarily for video with some photography thrown in there as my side business. I've been wanting to buy a BlackMagic camera to get 4K capabilities, but they are not practical for someone who needs a stills camera as well. The GH4 is the best of both worlds. Great stills, and even better video. It's 4K and high framerate capabilities are unheard of in it's price range. The GH4 allows you to get an incredibly cinematic image also, perfect for videographers. I highly recommend this camera to anyone who does exclusively video or video and still imaging.

An almost perfect camera!
I love the depth of features and options this camera offers! Great size and feel. My three critiques would be: 1. I would want a full 35mm equivalent sensor so it would eliminate crop factor. I know this would raise the price some, but that version would be amazing! 2. the swing out screen doesn't swing all the way out to be a perfect 180 deg. It rests slightly inward so if I have it mounted on a rig, I have to crain my neck slightly to view it square on. 3. I would like the selection wheel to be rubberized. The hard plastic just dosn't have a nice feel to it.

Excellent
I shoot short films around my city and do some video work occasionally on the side. I was previously shooting with a Canon T2i, but I hated the dynamic range. Enter the GH4. Better dynamic range, 4K, 1080 at 96fps and 24p or 30p video with All-I compression at 200 Mbps. So far I have shot eveything at 4K and edited in a 4K timeline and rendered out to 1080. Beautiful. Finally my wide shots have detail. I would recommend this camera. More bang for the buck. Not disappointing at all. Plus, unlimited shooting and no sensor heating like my Canon T2i.

Be aware of...
What's with the PINK highlights? We have been using the camera for about seven months in a variety of settings (studio to landscape). Overall the performance of the camera has been very good. However, when in ISO 100 and taking a shot with strong highlights, they come into Adobe Bridge and/or Lightroom as a flat pink color. The images are basically garbage at this point. I've seen that several others note the same issue. I can't give it a 1 as it is a very nice camera. I can't recommend it to others with such a serious flaw (see attached image).

Still a beast in 2018...
It's my 2nd GH4... Reasons not to upgrade GH5: 1. Image quality does not improve that much on GH5... I did a comparison between GH4, GH5 and GH5s. GH5 and GH5s are slightly better... Unless you use 400mbps mode... 2. I don't use a lot slow mo, but if you like, buy GH5 or s 3. Way much cheaper than GH5 - $999 VS $1999 4. Got free Panasonic 3 Year Warranty 5. GH5 & GH5s still not have "built-in" ND filter. Not worth for the upgrade... This is just my opinion. I may buy GH5 or 5S in future but so far they are not so attractive to me.

Sell your Canon 5D3 - maybe?
This is a great camera. I purchased this camera for the 4K video. I was using a 5D3 for video and stills. I sold my 5D after using the GH4. The upgrade in video quality is stellar. There is no doubt that the stills from the 5D are amazing. But I have been getting great results from the GH4 with stills. I purchased the Lumix 7-14 for landscape shots. They are stunning! Don't let the claim of low-light performance scare you from purchasing this camera. Turn off iDynamic, boots the master pedestal to +15 and you will be happy at 800 - 1600 iso.

Absolutely AWESOME!
I primarily use this for video, but the stills are awesome as well. I have an all GH3 production company and I tell yeah, I can't wait until I can replace all of them with this thing. The GH4 looks and feels exactly like the GH3, but it's SO much faster in terms of.. everything. The Auto Focus is lightening fast, the auto Iso is great when shooting run-n-gun and going from dark area to sun shining bright afternoon. Yeah, I have a ND filter, but in putting this thing through it's paces, it works GREAT. Never bothered putting the ND filter on.

GH4 Review
This camera has a ton of great features.1) 4K for under $. You can't beat that.2) 96 fps at 1080.3) Light and portable.4) Intuitive and easy to use.5) Great picture profiles and functions.6) Records to affordable SD cards. There are also some downfalls.1) Micro 4/3 sensor. Hard to use Canon lenses. Can't wait for the metabones speedbooster to come out for gh4.2) I wish there was a bit more dynamic range. Maybe the guys at Magic Lantern will get there hands on it.3) Rolling shutter is present. Not as bad as other DSLRs, but still noticeable.

Good bye Canon
Hello I am David and I was a canon guy, until I meet lumix, honestly I though canon give good quality but I was wrong after I tryed Gh4i knew I can't keep longer with canon. Panasonic gh4 have time lapses,4k, better colors, better sharp, so for video is much better than my 5mark3 :) so I don't have any excuses to keep my canon gear the only thin I will keep is my lens I just bought an adaptor to use all my canon lenses :).. I hope one day canon stop to care about the money and they give more quality and better options to use the equipment.

Love it
Have owned both the GH2 and GH3. The GH4 has everything I loved about both previous generations and much more. The 4k footage gives you so much to work with in post production and grades nicely. Pulling stills from the 4k footage looks great as well and the 16mp photos are also great. I've been a big fan of M43 cameras for stills and with a bit more work than a full frame you can get close to the same results. Hoping lightroom adds GH4 support soon. Overall I highly recommend this camera for both photos and video on a professional level.

A fast photo camera with superb video
I upgraded from the LUMIX GH3. I am not a professional; I would call me an advanced amateur. I use my camera for family and for trips mostly. I am becoming more interested in making video stories. This GH4 is unexpectedly very fast with photos and the quality images are impressive comparing with GH3. I like the Peaking and zebras. I love to use legacy lenses with manual focusing and peaking is awesome. The 4K video is amazing but this is well known how far ahead of cameras in this price range is the GH4. I am very happy with this camera.

Wow!
I get long winded, as there are enough reviews about this camera, but Wow! sums up the capability and performance of this camera. For a video camera, you'd be hard pressed to do better. For a stills camera, the GH4 is quite capable, but I use other cameras for stills generally. But the 4k is where it's at and the GH4 is amazing. It requires a kit and some cash to get it working great, but every video camera needs that. I'd highly recommend it for videographers and film makers, but alas, I preach to the choir I'm sure. Buy the thing!

No bandwagon effect for me!
In my country, the general belief is that Canon DSLRs cameras are next to none. Unfortunately i am not the typical person who follows the crowd. I went online, did my research and concluded that Panasonic GH4 was the best for me despite the fact that I had never seen it being used before. The risk was well worth it. As they say, the rest is history. I have not regretted the decision! I have stuck with the Panasonic style and I'm amazed at the new gears coming out lately. For now, I'll remain here for a long time to come.
