Has all the right elements
I would have given 5 stars but I've not yet put it through all its paces. It's got a lot to offer. I bought it b/c it has a large image processor, hot shoe, et al., unusual for a point & shoot. I pre-ordered before it released, I still have it!
It is 2018 and I am not giving this one up! I fell in love with the specs and got caught up in the excitement over the first large sensor hybrid superzoom Panasonic as described on my favorite site dpreview.com. First Impressions in the 1st three days
So far so good... Fast enough Lens and good quality images. The EVF is as good as I have used with the Sony A6000, Fuji X-T1 and Olympus OM-D. Nice and Bright and No Image Tearing! Excellent Travel Camera

Very Good Camera - but not perfect
I am enjoying this camera very much and find it is almost exactly what I expected from my research. I don't do movies much at all but did try the 4K video to extract 8 MP images and figured it out fairly easily. The menus are fairly complex so I am still getting familiar with them but other than taking more time to find things all is good. Watch out for used items being sent as new!
received what was an obvious previous return, the inside flap of the box was torn and there was no film on the screen of the camera. this item should have been sold as an open box item yet was sold as a brand new item. was buying this as a B-day gift and now have the option of giving someone a used camera or letting them know they'll have to wait for a replacement. The image quality is good, but I experienced the black out.
The 4 k is very nice, and the images has very low noise even in very poor lighting, I compare it with Canon D Mark III, in High ISO, not too bad on this 1 inch sensor. But I had couple times the view finder and back viewing screen totally black, and the camera is not doing anything, I check the battery is all right, but can't figure out what has happening. Audio & HDMI is an afterthought
I rented this camera for a week to put it through its pace--focusing primarily on its video capabilities. I was very impressed by the still/video image quality, as well as its very good sound quality with external mics (as many have stated in detail here). Disappointed
I was so tempted to buy. These are questions that bugged me. Why did they make it power zoom? Just to run down the battery? Do they think travelers enjoy packing multiple batteries? On top of that, the lens rattles and the camera is not weather sealed. Clearly, they were not thinking about the travel photographer while designing this. Very practical and capable digital camera
Reading other reviews and looking at other photographs made me make the jump to this camera. Through out the years I have owned many cameras and lenses 35mm an digital . A one piece wonder
I got this for my wife because she had outgrown her small sensor super-zoom and did not want to move up to a DSLR with interchangeable lenses as I use. This camera impressed on a recent trip to Panama and Costa Rica with a wide zoom range and focus speed very close to a DSLR. Dofficult to use
This camera takes very nice pictures. Is easy to focus. Other than that it is difficult to figure out how to use all of the features it is supposed to have, The small instruction paperr that comes with it is useless. I tried contacting Panasonic re how to get the flash to operate. They replied Go to the menu and set it. When I asked for more detailed instructions I received more of the same. So apparently if you can't figure it out yourself, tough. The mfg will be of no help. If you are the kind of person who likes to spend hours figuring out how things work, then this camera is for you.

Decided it was a keeper!
I am a pro photographer and was looking to throw a decent point and shoot in my backpack and carry with me everywhere (outside of my D3s, D800, and D750 I use on the job). I wanted something I could carry on a hike or in kayak, and when I do take an image, regardless of what equipment I'm using, I still wanted it to be worth my while, the FZ 1000 pretty much meets that need. It's not a perfect carry around but it's pretty darn close and I'm tired of waiting. I hope the next FZ has a longer zoom, better low light image quality, auto ISO in video mode, and external headphone capability.

Awesome camera
I bought the FZ1000 for my wife to replace an earlier Lumix with a mega zoom lens (20-1200 equivalent) that was damaged when it fell on a rock. I felt that the shorter zoom, 25-400 equivalent and the larger 1 sensor would provide superior image quality when compared to the earlier model. Of the 200+ images both JPEG and RAW that she has made in the past 10days with the FZ1000 have proven to be excellent. It provides very sharp images with excellent contrast and color fidelity. It's a much better camera than the mega zooms and it has worked flawlessly. I highly recommend this camera.

Not happy with this camera.
Ive had this camera for a few months and really cant say I like it. When focusing it seems to hunt - lots. Taking shots at greater than 400 will be very soft, most of the time soft at 400. Im wondering if I got a bad camera. I will be purchasing the 300 hoping it is as good as the one I had before the 300 came out. The 300 holds f.2.8 throughout the zoom which is great for travel photography. Sharp pictures even in dark places. I purchased the 1000 because of the larger sensor but my older Panasonic was quite sharp at 12 mega pix. Anyone interested in purchasing this from me????

almost a must have
I like bridge cameras (a lot!) but this one is my new fave!! PHOTO'S are mind blowing straight out of the camera. I purchased mainly for video and was very pleased to firmware update allowing 24P/4k! (YESSS!) I just shot some clips and downresed to 1080p (looks good!)Very pleased. More than anything I like that Panasonic Lumix get's it and is not the least worried about giving bang for the buck. This is such a great camera for corporate gigs/reality shows/professional photog 2nd cam/b roll/and travel. I also love the stealthness @400mm. The low light is not too shabby either.

Worthy Alternative to an SLR
I learned photography on a completely manual SLR film camera and, although I have learned to live with automated aperture and shutter, I always thought that I was smarter than the camera. Until now. This does a better job of handling backlit subjects than I could, and it takes milliseconds instead of minutes. It has all the lens (wide to long) most of us need, and enough zoom for all but the greedy. But what really makes it a SLR alternative is the large (1) sensor. If you are serious about photography but are tired of toting a case full of lenses, consider this camera.

An impressive piece of machinery
I have long worked with Panasonic Lumux cameras and have always found them great under many circumstances. This model is truly advanced, almost more than I can handle at one time. It takes amazing images and is super fast. It is heavy, which proves there is lots of metal in it, and the glass on the lens is superior. I took some amazing images after dark, just to see how it did in available darkness. They were stunning, at least to me. I must study the manual to learn all the fine points, and in a few weeks, I will have ample time to do that. So far, I love this camera.

Fast and sharp and clear!
My review is based on prior ownership of a Lumix DMC FZ150. EVF is superb, like having a DSLR. Manual focus is superior to the old way. Autofocus is quick and spot-on. ISO is great, noise is low. Color is accurate and need for exposure compensation is minimal. Worried a bit about macro depth of field, but not enough experience yet. Steep learning curve for what I want to do (wildlife telephoto-burst and macro wildlife close-up photography) but the Intelligent Auto mode handles the point-n-shoots well. Lack of a lanyard for the lens cap is stupid, Panasonic!

Great All Around Camera
Great 4K video, love the continuous focus in video! Pretty decent low noise considering the fact that it is a bridge camera and not a top shelf DSLR. I have shot a couple thousand photos with it and it has performed above my expectations. My primary DSLR camera is a 8th generation Canon with L series glass. The Lumix doesn't quite hang with it for IQ but makes up for it in features and 4K video! Contrary to other reviews I have found the battery life to be as I would expect, 1000 pix and a few videos on one battery is not bad over a 3 hour period.

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE
Traded my Canon T3i with lenses for this camera and I'm sooo happy I did. I'm not a professional photographer, but with this camera I feel like one. I really enjoy having the long zoom without having to change out lenses. On our recent trip to Chicago, I was able to take some great shots of butterflies in a garden we visited, and without having to switch the lens! Definately recommend this camera - it's a sturdy (but slightly large) camera with many features that easily goes between beginner and semi-pro by offering a plethora of manual controls.

A winner!!
I was looking for a camera that fulfills the followings:1. Takes great photos in low light2. Capture fast motion such as martial art movement3. Light enough to carry for hike and backpacking trip4. Long zoom like a DSLR5. Under $ This camera fulfills the above criteria. Absolutely love how sharp the photos look. One other feature that excites me is the burst speed. It sounded like a machine gun rapid fire. I just have it for about a week. May be it's too early to tell, but I haven't found any negative features about the camera. Simply fantastic!
