The product seems to be very ineffective at broadband noise cancellation .I am used to the Bose NC UNITS. I was expecting something similar in operation. The particular Bose I would give 95% broadband noise reduction for real but still allows a voice to be heard. Amazing actually .The Sony unit really only works on the low bass ( as the pamphlet states ) and then only if I use my fingers to put more pressure to seal the pads against my ears. As for using them to listen to music they are GREAT I cannot fault them . My fault was to not read more reviews as to what I expect from Nc headphones. On the box I did see the word up to 95% noise reduction. That misled me . Hope this is helpful to somebody. ... More

Yes, the cord is short. Yes it doesn't create complete silence no matter what. But it does cancel consistent background noise and the sound quality is surprising rich and full. I haven't tested other NC headphones, so I can't compare. But flicking that switch on to power the noise cancelling seems to take these headphones from dull to hi-fi in an instant. I have a number of other headphones by bose, sennheiser and sony - all twice or more expensive as these, and whatever they are doing to enhance the sound, it's really well implemented. I get a real sense of space and presence in a way i did not expect from $50 headphones. Well worth the money. And yes, the cord is too short. ... More

I find the noise cancelling to be very good, and the audio quality better than expected for the price. On the down side, the plastic folding mechanism doesn't seem very substantial, and I would expect it to break unless carefully handled. Also, there is no included storage/carrying bag or pouch. Overall, reasonably good value so long as you're not expecting something that can take a lot of abuse.

I use these at a very noisy gym. They do a good job of killing the sound of all the workout machines. They're not as good as the $ ones I had previously, but can't tell much difference at the gym. That's the only place I use them. Don't forget to turn it off when you're done (as I did), or the battery will be bye-bye.

I have two sets of noise canceling headphones which are highly rated and work well on planes, travel and home. I purchased these to sweat in, treadmill, or just watching movies on the couch. Forget about the treadmill, blocks no noise. I have regular headphones which are several years old, larger but not expensive which actually block noise. Now about these headphones. What is good is that they were inexpensive. That ends the good. The downside, headphones block zero noise with canceling off. turning canceling on just bumps the volume in the speaker but does nothing for ambient room noise. I'm not talking about a treadmill here, talking, fans, I could even hear wood crackling in the wood stove. Bottom line if you want quality pay a little or a lot more. ... More

Not for the folicly challenged. The band that rests on the top of the head is very hard plastic and uncomfortable. My previous on-ear Sony NC headphones included a slim flexible/rubber covering on the band and could be worn for hours. These will end up with a friend or family member, or the trash. My first Sony product that I regret buying (TVs, stereo, previous headphones, etc).

Even though this is a low cost item, I was hoping for a little more than power and noise cancelling than it gives. I have to ware headphones all day for my work, and I don't like over the ear heavy headphones because they become uncomfortable rather quickly. I still prefer my Sony On Ear headphones that look like this model, but without the noise cancelling. These are just heavier and require an additional battery.

We bought these for a video production class, and returned them. Would not hold up over time being used by multiple teenagers. Insubstantial.

These are not the most sophisticated headphones on the block, but for the price I think they are quite good. Im not an audiophile, but I know the difference between good and bad and these are definitely good serviceable Headphones. I use them exclusively with my laptop without worry.

The lid that covers the battery comes off very easy. The cord is too short for office use, so if you have the headphones on and turn your head away from your work surface, they come off from the computer or speaker, trust me, they do. I am not happy with the product.

These sound *great*, especially for the price. However, they work very poorly for phone calls. The microphone seems to pick up every sound in the room, which is jarring for both you and the person you're calling.

I have used and enjoyed these excellent low end NC headsets daily for many years. This pair was a replacement for one I've used for years, but handling eventually resulted in the mini plug wires finally failing. At the price, it's just not worth repairing them, so... buy a new set.

This Sony headphone is good, and for the price it's actually great. The sound isolation is good and it is very light and comfortable. It's completely made from plastic so don't expect too much in terms of longevity!!

I had great sound and I tested this out with a fish tank about 6 feet away and they cut out the low frequency noise from the tank but I was still able to hear my son as he asked me a question. I really like these and recommend these to anyone.

Sounds are decent, but the noice cancelling is not very effective. Ear cups are small, even for those with smaller than average size ears.

These definitely cut out the ambient noise of a room. I only wish they where over ear instead of on ear. I also wish the cord was still bit longer, but for the price the deliver.
