if you're looking to save money go for like Jag35 or something like that. If you're looking to get the most bang out of your buck, go for Red Rock Micro all the way. A solid foundation for DSLRs
I use this with a Canon 5D3. The quick release is perfect, and whole unit is sturdy enough to keep everything tight and in line; follow focus, etc... I don't understand the criticisms below with regard to function, but the price does sting a bit. I build off of an accessory baseplate, so I don't need my DSLR baseplate to connect to my tripod. Solid
After having the opportunity to put this guy to initial tests of a 48hr film festival and a few wedding shoots I got to say this part is rock solid. Never once during all manners of picking up my shoulder rig did my DSLR come the slightest bit loose from the thumbscrew. Just what the DSLR doctor ordered
There are many DSLR baseplates, most of which don't address the single biggest problem of mounting your SLR to rods and accessories: the weak single point of contact via the 1/4 tripod hole. Redrock addresses this with a simple set screw that prevents the camera from swiveling and thus keeps the entire rig from loosening and falling off the camera. The hardware is rock solid and compact, and the price is more than reasonable. The one disadvantage is a lack of adjustable height, which may cause issues with accessories (like israeli arms) fitting under lenses, etc.

Great product
Plate works great w/ the quick release, sturdiness. Couple issues is that I have to check the tightness of the screw into the camera. It comes loose after a while from the way I use it. I basically use a Captain Stubling setup, and often handle rig by the DSLR itself. This puts the weight of the rig on that screw, and loosens over time. The other thing is, I'm not sure how to apply the rubber gasket that comes with it. Do you stick the entire thing on? Just the edge part? Just the center?

Awesome Quality
I can't say anything bad about this product. It's well engineered and works like a charm. I originally bought it to provide some height to my GH2 because the indian manufactured matte box I have is too big and extended below my rails set up. Unfortunately this baseplate didn't quite give me all the height I needed, but I'm keeping it anyway. I'll figure out something else for the mattebox.

Very Important
This is a MUST HAVE on any Redrock product. It is very easy to get the camera on and off as well as getting the actual mount on and off the rods. Its a very strong product. Little word of advice though is put the rubber padding on the top of the Baseplate instead of the bottom of the camera. I even cut a whole in the top of the rubber plate for the Canon safety screw thing.

It's a trick - don't buy this one !
Another a disappointing item from Red Rock - but looks good online. I had a deadline 2 camera shoot coming up - ordered this item - then discovered it wouldn't mount to a tripod without another Red Rock accessory ! - what !? - that's what a Riser is for !!! This is like screwdriver with a round end ... - do not buy this item.

Quality Build, Solid Performance
I use this for my Canon 7D. I was using a cheap universal baseplate which was heavy and really not made for a DSLR rig. This lightens my shoulder rig significantly, provides a solid base, particularly for when I use my follow focus. I now have a complete Redrock Micro shoulder rig and this was the last piece of the puzzle.

This puppy works great
I used this to replace the Jag35 baseplate and couldn't be happier. It's pricier than I would have liked, but it's extremely durable and the fact that (along with the DSLR Mini Tripod Platform) I can just pop it off my rig without having to take anything apart is priceless to me.

Good Construction
This is well built and feels like it will last. Small locking pins for Nikon and Canon bodies won't do much if using Gorilla Plate or any sort of Viewfinder mount, which makes camera shift a problem (especially if using in conjunction w/ a follow-focus unit).

Simple and effective
Like all of my other Redrock Micro gear, this simply does the job without any fuss. I purchased it to put my DSLR/BMCC onto my RRM rails and shouldermount. It worked without issue. It's a bit more expensive than I would have preferred, but I'm glad I got it.

Snap-and-go!
It's sturdy and built to last -- well almost. Fit it to any 15mm rod. Snap on the cylindrical surface with ease. I would prefer if the design have bigger base for the HDSLR -- less wobbling. The pin that comes with it helps with holding the body to its base.

I wanted to love it...
But this thing is terrible. The baseplate itself is in two pieces. It is impossible to lock it down without it wiggling all over the place. Even worse with the follow focus. As soon as you move the focus ring, the lens moves. Back it goes.

A *Required* DSLR Attachment
If you're planning on shooting any DSLR video, Redrock Micro's DSLR Baseplate is an absolute must. It literally saves shouldermount setup time by *minutes*. Although it may come off as a little expensive, it's entirely worth it.

Works Great!
I purchased this baseplate for my custom DSLR rig. The plate allows me to easily attach my DSLR to my shoulder rig. It slides onto my 15mm rods allowing me to balance the camera perfectly on the tripod.

Sturdy build
Great when having multiple platforms. I have one platform set up for a 300mm 2.8 IS and one set up for shorter prime focal lenghts and having this quick release is a must to swap back and forth.

Machined to Perfection!
