An extremely capable camera that delivers great images
For run and gun productions and news or documentary style filming, this performs well. I have a couple decades experience using camcorders, almost always in manual mode because the auto capabilities were not good enough. I took this cam into a building being constructed last week to get video of workers doing all kinds of jobs and moving quickly, shooting by myself with no crew. I decided to put into full auto and the results were pretty amazing.... Show More

Getting to know you
Just recieved our two Panny AG-DVX200's and have a few first impressions that I need to get of my chest. Having a slick red and imitation carbon fiber finish is nice but an emphasis should have been placed on durability in the field. The rigors of run and gun will take toll on the compartment doors that cover connection points. Most notably, the door that protects the external power supply and headphone jack is sure to be broken. One would think ... Show More

Focus Issues, not Parfocal and Sensor Crop makes this a 1
This camera is effectively useless when it comes to actual shooting. First the focus is herrendous, Panasonic claims it is parfocal when it is not, the camera frequently looses focus when zooming. The auto focus is just bad, it will focus on random stupid things and then go bezerk and just go to full blur. Unless you plan on stop filming, refocus and then resume filming you should look else where. there are far cheaper alternatives when it comes ... Show More

So Far So Good
About to go overseas w/ this camera and 1-man-band a corporate video. More opinions after that. Not good in low light but any noise introduction is filmic looking. Infrared in lowlight is a bonus and not offered on many cams. It has that green look but definitely works well. Would be fairly fantastic for documentary/wildlife work. Bokeh is real and easily achieved -- very cool. This is unlike any camcorder in terms of being able to achieve that. ... Show More

A nice 4k upgrade
I've grow to love Panasonic, first with the DVX100, then HMC150, GH4 and now the DVX200. I shoot a lot of theatre and hand held stuff and this camera is definitely heavier than the HMC, but the 4k quality is a vast improvement! My favorite features so far: For the most part, the 200 feels a lot like the HMC150 and the DVX100. The focus peaking (something I enjoy on the GH4) is by far my favorite feature. The 4/3rds sensor takes some getting used ... Show More

pleasantly pleased
long time community volunteer shooter & editor. Local school productions, live concerts & events. Like driving a Lexus after using my hmc 40p for years-greatly improved low light & picture quality. Works smoothly( zoom a little touchy, but hopefully I will adapt) has a broadcast quality clarity to picture (so far-concert footage, medium lighting). Had trouble getting dual codec to work, but hope to figure it out. Shot with slight in camera proces... Show More

So glad I bought the DVX200, perfect for many shoots
I can't say enough good things about this camera. The image quality blows me away every shoot, and isn't that the most important thing? I see people complaining about strange things with this camera, such as I hate the red color. Really? I've had mine for about 6 months, and I'm still saying wow every time I shoot with it. The LCD is so good, I am using my SmallHD AC7 monitor less frequently, which saves setup time and weight when holding the cam... Show More

Excellent Low Cost Run N Gun Camera
We purchased the DVX200 for our production company primarily as a lightweight run-N-gun camera and for live productions. We have several other Panasonic ENG cameras, including HPX-500s and HPX-170s. The one live event we've done, mixing this camera with a couple of HPX500s, it really matched up well. We have not experienced any of the problems described by some of the other reviewers with this system. Obviously the lens is not a $ + piece of glas... Show More

Watch out for timecode
Over all it's a pretty good camera. But I have a bit of a gripe. The time code in is preset which means you can only sync your time code by going through the menu and syncinng manually AND only at that moment. After syncing, it is left to drift over the day. This is a pretty annoying inconvenience for those of us who record sound seperately (which you should all consider if you are contemplating cameras of this kind). This is a replacement to our... So I Finally Bought It, And I Love It!
I had posted a review of my 90 minutes of experience in the store with this camera and I was impressed. I decided to give it a go and finally bought it after a lot of thought and consideration. I have to admit this camera has its own flaws. But hey, no camera is perfect. You're getting more than your moneys' worth with this camera. This camera is still in Beta
This camera has a very steep learning curve. Out of the box, it might bite you if you rely on the factory scene files. Expect a yellowish cast on your footage, especially skin tones if you don't pay strict attention to exposure. You will not find rave reviews of this camera because most reviewers don't have the time to delive into all its features and set them up properly. There are more color controls on this camera than any other in its class a... Show More

Outstanding Camera!
This is by far, the most advanced fixed lens camcorder in the market as of today. With such a huge menu and amazing image quality, this is a professionals' dream tool. I've had this for about 2 months now and I'm still learning more and more about this camera. The more I learn, the better I get while operating it. The best part which suits my needs is that this camera meets with the DCI specifications. I can choose from various aspect ratios up t... Show More

I still have its earlier SD predecessor and couldn't wait to get hold of this one when I heard it was coming out. I've had it since late 2015, are still learning new aspects of how to work with her and love the features. Now that Premiere Pro has great proxy files for editing I can finally make full potential of the 4K capabilities and are loving the results. I shot an entire feature film with this!
All I can say is that, this is the best run and gun camera for multiple purposes. I shot an entire feature film titled PRIMARY HITMAN with this camera in 4K DCI. The image quality is stunning. It's very well built. The menu is simple and clear. The functions are very useable too. The integrated lens has a powerful motor. You can get wide shots, zoom shots, and touch a button for macro shots. This camera did everything. If there is a drawback, I'l... Show More

Fantastic if you read instructions
This is one of the best looking cameras I've ever used, but unless you read the manual and really understand video, you may get lost. Those who simply want to grab the camera out of the box and begin shooting will have trouble. Panasonic has built in a lot of professional engineering features that make the 4K picture one of the best on the market. This is not a low-end point and shoot camera - it is intended for professionals. But when set up pro... Show More

I'm an old Sony guy then graduated to HD with a Nikon DSLR. Once I got my hands on a demo of the DVX-200, I was totally blown away. It does EVERYTHING that I need. I'm a corporate, talking heads, video kind of guy as well as event video. This camera has held it's own on every occasion. The V-Log is AMAZING and when edited with Film Convert, you can't go wrong. Nice camera
I haven't had much time to play around with it but it seems to be built well. Takes a nice picture. The logarithmic shooting works well and gives a lot of latitude. The cards whole a lot of video so if you run and gun you can shoot a lot before you run out of room, unlike some other cameras that shoot a nice rob picture but take up a ton of space. Has built-in and D which is great. A good run and gun camera if you're shooting on the fly plus it d... Show More

Really Enjoying The DVX200
I've had the camera for nearly two weeks and have to say its a great run-n-gun camera for what I do. This is going to be a great camera for documentary and ENG work. I shoot mostly in manual model for everything, but the auto focus works good for those times you need. Panasonic just released a new firmware update for the camera and it cleans some of the fine noise in the shadows in lower light situations. I shoot only in V-Log for the best DR. In... Show More

Worth Every Penny of Mine
Does what I need a run and gun camera to do! I'm glad they finally made a 4K camera modeled after the dvx100. Love that you have different recording options available and the variable frame rate feature up to 120fps. You can get some nice slow motion in this camera. The footage also matches my GH4, so I don't have to do any extra color grading to match between the two. Only small critique I have is the lens has a variable f stop, so the iris closes as you shoot more telephoto. I knew that before buying so it wasn't too big of an issue. Make sure get the latest firmware updates as well.

Not great...at all!
I had to film a documentarie in Hawa and the DVX200 was imposed to me. The experience was not happy. It's not a good camera overall. Poor compression in camera (4:2:0). A menu that is counter intuitive. The LCD is not good in sun condition and the eye viewfinder in not better. There is only 12 stop of latitude and I believe it is less in truth. If the macro fonction is not engaged, the minimum distance for your focus is like 4 feet. Well, I had 6 days of shooting with it, in many different condition and it fail all the time. If you can avoid working with this camera, well...avoid!

Solid
I've used Panasonic camcorders for the past 25+ years. This is a solid professional camera with a lot of different options. If you don't like the way it looks, you can change it. There are many options to customize the unit the way you want or you can select the standard default settings. For best results you'll have to spend time to get comfortable with it. The only reason I didn't give it a 5 star is because it might struggle in extreme low-light situations...and even then, it has a high sensitivity mode that gives more light. There is a lot to like about this camera.

Needs tweaking
I bought this unit believing it would be great for a documentry project. Out of the box this camera was very difficult to get a clean picture with accurate colors. After a few days I had to return due to the fact I don't have time to become an expert on this camera in order to operate it. I believe the scene files need some work. I was able top get a better picture after downloading a few scene files from a Panasonic expert...Berry? (sorry I can't remember the name) Decided to return and save more money for a Sony Fs7. I did not see many advantages over my GH4.
